This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Comparative Agricultural Value of Insoluble Mineral Phosphates of Aluminum, Iron, and Calcium Phosphorus is the only element that must be purchased and returned to the most common soils of the United States. Phosphorus is the key to per manent agriculture on these lands. This statement Of C. G.-hopkins emphasizes the extreme importance of the phosphorus problem in modern agriculture; especially at the present time when the seriousness of the world food situation is making an urgent appeal to agriculturists to increase and to maintain permanently the fertility of all tillable soils. The acute shortage of transportation facilities has placed farmers, not conveniently situated near phosphate-producing centres, at a disadvantage with regard to procuring phosphorus at other than exorbitant prices. This has resulted in a world-wide prospecting for phosphate deposits and has caused considerable speculation as to the feasibility of utilizing iron and aluminum phosphates for agricultural purposes. Book Behavior of Phosphoric Acid in the Soil

Download or read book Behavior of Phosphoric Acid in the Soil written by James Adrian Bizzell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Behavior of Phosphoric Acid in the Soil: A Thesis Submitted to the University Faculty of Cornell University for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy III. It is the tendency of phosphoric acid to form the more difficulty soluble compounds in the soil, but not all the phosphoric acid appears to be so combined, nor is such combination always effected with with great rapidity. The complete fixation in some cases does not take place for several months. IV. Mixed with calcium carbonate, in the presence of soil water, phosphates of iron and aluminum undergo decomposition with the formation of calcium phosphate. With certain soils, calcium hydroxide also apparently has a solvent action on the phosphates of iron. Conditions affecting the equilibrium between these compounds have not been determined. V. Absorption may be influenced to some extent by the presence of some of the alkali salts. The effect is not very well defined. In some cases the solubility of the soil phosphoric acid seems to be increased in the presence of these salts.
