Book Trends in the Development of Automatic Test Equipment

Download or read book Trends in the Development of Automatic Test Equipment written by Jack Lustig and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study represents an effort to identify significant trends in the design of automated testing since the middle 1950's. It includes a number of pertinent philosophies of this period and provides some conclusions and recommendations for future automatic test equipment. Incorporated in the report are summations of a selection from twenty five hundred (2500) articles, reports and several hundred patents contained in the files of Project SETE; the results of a meeting at NASA Kennedy Space Flight Center; and a portion of the correspondence resulting from an industrial survey on automatic test equipment. A bibliography has been arranged chronologically to provide the reader with an additional tool for the historical assessment of automatic test equipment. The report is issued in three layers. The 'Foreword' represents the first layer and is essentially an introduction to automatic testing. It is prepared for those readers who desire only a brief discussion of the subject. The 'Historical Preview' is the second layer. It explores in greater detail the ramifications of early efforts to automate testing. It includes a chronological 'Programming Sequence History Chart' plus samples of programming devices related to automatic test equipment. Starting with 'Task Objectives' the major part of the report is detailed. The main thrust is on important philosophies which played a part in the overall movement of automation in testing. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PATSY (Parability for Automatic Test Systems) By: Don Tobey The story of PATSY depicts the twist and turns of a young engineer and project manager, Ross Anderson, who developed a unique device which, if successful, could save the U.S. Navy over $180 million a year through the remote calibration of deployed test equipment around the world using satellite digital and laser technology. A technological oddity occurs during the test which generated a thermal surface image of an aircraft carrier in the Asian-Pacific Rim. When Russia detects a false image, they respond by launching MiG-31 aircraft to destroy the imaginary target creating an international incident. U.S. Intelligence and WARFARE Agencies become involved, and soon Rodd learns that his lead programmer was murdered and his assistant had stolen the test back-up tapes and attempted to sell them to KGB agents in Toronto before being killed himself. Recruited by the CIA, Ross assists in a clandestine exchange of data with a disgruntled high level Russian scientist through risky mission which requires the covert distraction of a mistress. Through it all, Ross earns the respect from his peers as he attempts to renew his contract with the U.S. Navy and restore his marriage while formulating a new plan strategy for his company.

Book Diagnosis Using Automatic Test Equipment and an Artificial Intelligence Expert System

Download or read book Diagnosis Using Automatic Test Equipment and an Artificial Intelligence Expert System written by J. E Ramsey (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reviews three different expert systems (ATEOPS, ATEFEXPERS, and ATEFATLAS) created to direct automatic test equipment (ATE). Although related, each expert system uses a different knowledge base or inference engine and base their testing on the circuit schematic, test requirements document (TRD), or ATLAS code. Implementing generalized modules allows the expert systems to be used for any unit under test. Because of numerous errors in the ATLAS code and problems with the actual hardware connection, a fully operational system was not developed. These expert systems provide insight into the necessary knowledge bases and inference engines needed by an expert system to direct ATE. Using converted ATLAS to LISP code allows the expert system to direct any ATE using ATLAS. The CP-FRL allows the expert system to expand its control by creating the ATLAS code, checking the code for good software engineering techniques, directing the ATE, and changing the test sequence as needed. Book excerpt: We are providing this final memorandum report for your information and use. This report discusses the efforts to achieve commonality in standards among the Military Departments as part of the DoD policy for automatic test systems (ATS). Those systems are comprised of automated test hardware, operating system software, and test program sets. ATS are used in DoD field and depot electronics maintenance activities to test electronic equipment, to reduce troubleshooting times, and to augment the skills of field technicians. When this audit was announced March 28, 1994, the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology (USDA & T) had not established DoD policy and procedures for ATS acquisition.
