Book Numerical Methods in Software and Analysis

Download or read book Numerical Methods in Software and Analysis written by John R. Rice and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Methods, Software, and Analysis, Second Edition introduces science and engineering students to the methods, tools, and ideas of numerical computation. Introductory courses in numerical methods face a fundamental problem—there is too little time to learn too much. This text solves that problem by using high-quality mathematical software. In fact, the objective of the text is to present scientific problem solving using standard mathematical software. This book discusses numerous programs and software packages focusing on the IMSL library (including the PROTRAN system) and ACM Algorithms. The book is organized into three parts. Part I presents the background material. Part II presents the principal methods and ideas of numerical computation. Part III contains material about software engineering and performance evaluation. A uniform approach is used in each area of numerical computation. First, an intuitive development is made of the problems and the basic methods for their solution. Then, relevant mathematical software is reviewed and its use outlined. Many areas provide extensive examples and case studies. Finally, a deeper analysis of the methods is presented as in traditional numerical analysis texts. - Emphasizes the use of high-quality mathematical software for numerical computation - Extensive use of IMSL routines - Features extensive examples and case studies

Book Programming for Computations Python

Download or read book Programming for Computations Python written by Svein Linge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents computer programming as a key method for solving mathematical problems. There are two versions of the book, one for MATLAB and one for Python. The book was inspired by the Springer book TCSE 6: A Primer on Scientific Programming with Python (by Langtangen), but the style is more accessible and concise, in keeping with the needs of engineering students. The book outlines the shortest possible path from no previous experience with programming to a set of skills that allows the students to write simple programs for solving common mathematical problems with numerical methods in engineering and science courses. The emphasis is on generic algorithms, clean design of programs, use of functions, and automatic tests for verification.

Book Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization

Download or read book Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization written by Emmanuel Laporte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensitivity analysis and optimal shape design are key issues in engineering that have been affected by advances in numerical tools currently available. This book, and its supplementary online files, presents basic optimization techniques that can be used to compute the sensitivity of a given design to local change, or to improve its performance by local optimization of these data. The relevance and scope of these techniques have improved dramatically in recent years because of progress in discretization strategies, optimization algorithms, automatic differentiation, software availability, and the power of personal computers. Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization will be of interest to graduate students involved in mathematical modeling and simulation, as well as engineers and researchers in applied mathematics looking for an up-to-date introduction to optimization techniques, sensitivity analysis, and optimal design.

Book Scientific Computation with Automatic Result Verification

Download or read book Scientific Computation with Automatic Result Verification written by Ulrich Kulisch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Computation with Result Verification has been a persevering research topic at the Institute for Applied Mathematics of Karlsruhe University for many years. A good number of meetings have been devoted to this area. The latest of these meetings was held from 30 September to 2 October, 1987, in Karlsruhe; it was co-sponsored by the GAMM Committee on "Computer Arithmetic and Scientific Computation". - - This volume combines edited versions of selected papers presented at this confer ence, including a few which were presented at a similar meeting one year earlier. The selection was made on the basis of relevance to the topic chosen for this volume. All papers are original contributions. In an appendix, we have supplied a short account of the Fortran-SC language which permits the programming of algorithms with result verification in a natural manner. The editors hope that the publication of this material as a Supplementum of Computing will further stimulate the interest of the scientific community in this important tool for Scientific Computation. In particular, we would like to make application scientists aware of its potential. The papers in the second chapter of this volume should convince them that automatic result verification may help them to design more reliable software for their particular tasks. We wish to thank all contributors for adapting their manuscripts to the goals of this volume. We are also grateful to the Publisher, Springer-Verlag of Vienna, for an efficient and quick production.

Book Handbook for Automatic Computation

Download or read book Handbook for Automatic Computation written by John H. Wilkinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the internationally standardized language ALGOL has made it possible to prepare procedures which can be used without modification whenever a computer with an ALGOL translator is available. Volume Ia in this series gave details of the restricted version of ALGOL which is to be employed throughout the Handbook, and volume Ib described its implementation on a computer. Each of the subsequent volumes will be devoted to a presentation of the basic algorithms in some specific areas of numerical analysis. This is the first such volume and it was feIt that the topic Linear Algebra was a natural choice, since the relevant algorithms are perhaps the most widely used in numerical analysis and have the advantage of forming a weil defined dass. The algorithms described here fall into two main categories, associated with the solution of linear systems and the algebraic eigenvalue problem respectively and each set is preceded by an introductory chapter giving a comparative assessment.
