Book Automatic Control Systems for Longitudinal Motion of Semisubmerged Ships

Download or read book Automatic Control Systems for Longitudinal Motion of Semisubmerged Ships written by Gilbert Finley Monell (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal control theory is used to develop three automatic control systems for the longitudinal motion of a semisubmerged ship. A linearized mathematical model of the ship motion is used and the control problem is treated as a linear regulator. Simulations of the ship's longitudinal motions, utilizing the three control systems, are compared for various sea conditions. It is concluded that if the wave forces and moments are known or are estimated as functions of time, a suboptimal controller is the best controller. However, if a frequency domain approach is used to estimate the wave forces and moments, the complexity of a suboptimal controller approaches that of an optimal controller and the difference between the two is negligible. Book Automatic Control and Routing of Marine Vessels

Download or read book Automatic Control and Routing of Marine Vessels written by Margarita Sotnikova and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the intensive development of the global economy, many problems are constantly emerging connected to the safety of ships' motion in the context of increasing marine traffic. These problems seem to be especially significant for the further development of marine transportation services, with the need to considerably increase their efficiency and reliability. One of the most commonly used approaches to ensuring safety and efficiency is the wide implementation of various automated systems for guidance and control, including such popular systems as marine autopilots, dynamic positioning systems, speed control systems, automatic routing installations, etc. This Special Issue focuses on various problems related to the analysis, design, modelling, and operation of the aforementioned systems. It covers such actual problems as tracking control, path following control, ship weather routing, course keeping control, control of autonomous underwater vehicles, ship collision avoidance. These problems are investigated using methods such as neural networks, sliding mode control, genetic algorithms, L2-gain approach, optimal damping concept, fuzzy logic and others. This Special Issue is intended to present and discuss significant contemporary problems in the areas of automatic control and the routing of marine vessels.

Book Control of Marine Vehicles

Download or read book Control of Marine Vehicles written by Karl Dietrich von Ellenrieder and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers a comprehensive introduction to the control of marine vehicles, from fundamental to advanced concepts, including robust control techniques for handling model uncertainty, environmental disturbances, and actuator limitations. Starting with an introductory chapter that extensively reviews automatic control and dynamic modeling techniques for ocean vehicles, the first part of the book presents in-depth information on the analysis and control of linear time invariant systems. The concepts discussed are developed progressively, providing a basis for understanding more complex techniques and stimulating readers’ intuition. In addition, selected examples illustrating the main concepts, the corresponding MATLAB® code, and problems are included in each chapter. In turn, the second part of the book offers comprehensive coverage on the stability and control of nonlinear systems. Following the same intuitive approach, it guides readers from the fundamentals to more advanced techniques, which culminate in integrator backstepping, adaptive and sliding mode control. Leveraging the author’s considerable teaching and research experience, the book offers a good balance of theory and stimulating questions. Not only does it provide a valuable resource for undergraduate and graduate students; it will also benefit practitioners who want to review the foundational concepts underpinning some of the latest advanced marine vehicle control techniques, for use in their own applications.

Book excerpt: The shipping industry has been growing in leaps and bounds over the past few decades. The answer to reduced manning, together with demanding operating schedules, has more often than not been automation. Hence the need of the hour for a seafarer is adequate knowledge of UMS environments and their supporting systems onboard ships. With almost 30 years of first-hand experience by each of us in this mammoth industry, we have seen the evolution from control elements and systems of the post 2nd world- war era to the most sophisticated components and networks available today. It has indeed been a wonderful journey through time! These experiences have been our guiding light; they have prompted us to share our acquired knowledge with our counterparts and students of the maritime industry.
