Book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis in a Mechanical Test Lab

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis in a Mechanical Test Lab written by DH. Carter and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computers and enhanced control technology have made it possible to perform more sophisticated mechanical tests than ever before, as well as to allow routine tests to be run and analyzed with much greater efficiency. Automated data acquisition, storage, and analysis have become key ingredients in a mechanical test facility, especially in one which uses a wide variety of test equipment and techniques. This paper will discuss one such mechanical test facility where many different types of mechanical tests are performed using automated data acquisition, centralized data storage, and finally a complex system of automated data analysis. Various systems of data acquisition will be discussed, including those used on servohydraulic and screw-driven systems, as well as those used for higher-rate, formability, and creep tests. Methods for networking equipment used in such a facility will be described. Networking is an important criterion for establishing a centralized data base, and for eventually building a system of automated data analysis.

Book Automated Data Acquisition and Data Bank Storage of Mechanical Test Data

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition and Data Bank Storage of Mechanical Test Data written by G. Bracke and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mechanical Performance Laboratory of the Institute for Advanced Materials/Joint Research Centre (IAM/JRC) in Petten houses a range of universal and bend testing machines, used to generate tensile, creep, fatigue, and crack growth data on structural materials. A decentralized concept of data automation is implemented, in which each testing machine or group of testing machines is equipped with a dedicated PC for control and data acquisition purposes. All PCs are linked in a network, allowing data analysis and editing from any computer in the network and enabling the transfer of files to other users, for example, the High Temperature Materials Data Bank. The major criteria for selecting the chosen concept are user friendliness and flexibility. The potential of the automation system is illustrated with the help of examples relating to the computer-assisted alignment of a test specimen in a testing machine, to thermomechanical fatigue testing, and to a computer vision system for the in situ tracking of microcracks during thermomechanical fatigue testing.

Book An Automatic Data Processing System for a Physical Testing Laboratory

Download or read book An Automatic Data Processing System for a Physical Testing Laboratory written by William M. Sigmon and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant improvements in data acquisition and reduction for mechanical properties tests of solid propellants and binders have been accomplished by means of an automated data processing system. The automatic system enables the demands of a steadily increasing workload to be met more efficiently, reduces the possibilities for human error, and extracts more information from test data than was previously feasible by manual methods. The system automatically samples and records data from test instrumentation, computes pertinent results, and outputs the informationin a directly usable form immediately upon completion of a test. The various components in the system, the features of the operating program, the present capabilities of the system and the ppossibilities for future expansion are discussed in detail. Book Materials Testing in an Automated Laboratory

Download or read book Materials Testing in an Automated Laboratory written by PL. Key and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of a laboratory automation system to materials testing is described from the point of view of the user of the system rather than the designer. Both the hardware and software steps necessary for interfacing a laboratory instrument to the system are described. Application of these steps is illustrated with several examples including closed loop control of a servohydraulic mechanical testing machine and data acquisition from a magnetic hysteresigraph.

Book Automation Software for a Materials Testing Laboratory

Download or read book Automation Software for a Materials Testing Laboratory written by PJ. Bonacuse and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An overview of the software environment in use at the NASA-Lewis Research Center's High Temperature Fatigue and Structures Laboratory is presented. This environment is composed of varying interrelated software systems, of both a NASA-designed and a commercially available nature, all of which operate on a local, distributed, mini- and microcomputer system. The software environment is designed to support the tasks involved in performing materials behavior research, principally: defining and executing materials tests, analyzing the results of these experiments, and reporting the results. The approach taken in this application was to create a method of specifying a materials test that is independent of the terminologies and conventions of the intended applications. This approach results in a useful tool for performing a wide variety of tests. The features and capabilities of this approach to specifying a materials test include: static and dynamic control mode switching, enabling multimode test control; dynamic alteration of the control waveform based upon events occurring in the response variables; precise control over the nature of both command waveform generation and data acquisition (as it relates to the command waveform), including dynamically variable waveform types, data acquisition channel sets and sampling rates; and, the nesting of waveform/ data acquisition strategies so that material history dependencies may be explored. For all practical purposes, differing waveform and data acquisition strategies may be concatenated and nested indefinitely to provide extensive control over materials test control histories. Experimental capabilities currently supported in an automated fashion include both isothermal and thermomechanical fatigue and deformation testing capabilities. A secondary goal was to introduce efficiencies into the conventional research process by eliminating tedious and repetitive tasks, that is, to increase the amount of time the researcher spends on research. The latter goal was achieved through the establishment of a communications network software system that provides (among other things) file interchange and remote console capabilities, and through the introduction of a data analysis and archiving system.
