Book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis in a Mechanical Test Lab

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis in a Mechanical Test Lab written by DH. Carter and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computers and enhanced control technology have made it possible to perform more sophisticated mechanical tests than ever before, as well as to allow routine tests to be run and analyzed with much greater efficiency. Automated data acquisition, storage, and analysis have become key ingredients in a mechanical test facility, especially in one which uses a wide variety of test equipment and techniques. This paper will discuss one such mechanical test facility where many different types of mechanical tests are performed using automated data acquisition, centralized data storage, and finally a complex system of automated data analysis. Various systems of data acquisition will be discussed, including those used on servohydraulic and screw-driven systems, as well as those used for higher-rate, formability, and creep tests. Methods for networking equipment used in such a facility will be described. Networking is an important criterion for establishing a centralized data base, and for eventually building a system of automated data analysis.

Book Automated Data Acquisition for Tracking and Control of Construction Projects

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition for Tracking and Control of Construction Projects written by Samir El-Omari and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controlling construction projects necessitates controlling their time and cost in an effort to meet the planned targets. Management needs timely data that represent the status of the project to take corrective actions, if needed. The earned value technique is widely used for periodic monitoring of actual expenditures and physical scope accomplishment and, accordingly, for generating period-by-period progress reports. These reports are commonly developed by essentially comparing the collected actual data pertinent to work performed on site to that planned. The objectives of this research thesis are to study and analyze the characteristics of automated data acquisition technologies in an effort to automate the process of data collection from construction sites for progress measurement. This includes their capabilities and limitations and their respective suitability to track various construction operations. Experiments were conducted to study the applications of different automated data acquisition technologies and explore the most suitable IT platform for integrating them in one tracking and control system. Current automated data acquisition technologies are described, and their suitability for use in tracking and controlling construction activities is assessed. This includes bar coding, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, multimedia, and pen-based computers. Each automated technology, is used for a certain construction task on site. For example, 3D scanner or LADAR (laser distance and ranging) was integrated in this thesis together with photogrammetry to rapidly track changes of quantities of work accomplished such as excavation works. Integrating these two technologies alleviates limitations associated with each of them individually such as the number of scans required and the time needed for each scan to produce acceptable results during the 3D modeling process. It also overcomes limitations associated with photogrammetry when modeling 3D images of objects with unclear geometrical properties as in the case of earthmoving operations where modeling 3D images from digital photo images becomes difficult and the presence of a scanned image can be helpful. Bar coding and RFID are utilized for material and labor tracking. In the reporting stage, more photo images would be more desirable. Pen-based or tablet computer is utilized as the main interface tool with the user. The user can move with a tablet PC in the construction site and record, take snapshots and also hand written comments about activities on site. A proposed cost/schedule control model is presented that Integrates different automated data acquisition technologies, a planning and scheduling software system, a relational database, and AutoCAD to generate progress reports that can assist project management teams in decision making.

Book Data Acquisition Systems

Download or read book Data Acquisition Systems written by Maurizio Di Paolo Emilio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fundamentals of data acquisition systems, how they enable users to sample signals that measure real physical conditions and convert the resulting samples into digital, numeric values that can be analyzed by a computer. The author takes a problem-solving approach to data acquisition, providing the tools engineers need to use the concepts introduced. Coverage includes sensors that convert physical parameters to electrical signals, signal conditioning circuitry to convert sensor signals into a form that can be converted to digital values and analog-to-digital converters, which convert conditioned sensor signals to digital values. Readers will benefit from the hands-on approach, culminating with data acquisition projects, including hardware and software needed to build data acquisition systems.

Book Automated Data Acquisition and Load and Strain Measurement Resolution

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition and Load and Strain Measurement Resolution written by FL. Lehman and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automated data acquisition for compaterized analysis has become commonplace. Typical testing systems now have, in addition to traditional analog or digital indicators for load and strain measurement, data acquisition subsystems that provide load and strain data to a computer for later analysis. Current standards specify procedures for the verification of load and strain accuracy based upon readings from analog or digital indicators. A standard procedure must be developed for the verification of load and strain acquired data. Such a procedure must define a method for determining resolution from characteristics of the acquired data. This paper discusses the issues pertaining to resolution of measurement as it applies to accuracy verification.

Book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis System for Inventory Verification

Download or read book Automated Data Acquisition and Analysis System for Inventory Verification written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A real-time system is proposed which would allow CLO Safeguards Branch to conduct a meaningful inventory verification using a variety of NDA instruments. The overall system would include the NDA instruments, automated data handling equipment, and a vehicle to house and transport the instruments and equipment. For the purpose of the preliminary cost estimate a specific data handling system and vehicle were required. A Tracor Northern TN-11 data handling system including a PDP-11 minicomputer and a measurement vehicle similar to the Commission's Regulatory Region I van were used. The basic system is currently estimated to cost about $100,000, and future add-ons which would expand the systems' capabilities are estimated to cost about $40,000. The concept of using a vehicle in order to permanently rack mount the data handling equipmentoffers a number of benefits such as control of equipment environment and allowance for improvements, expansion, and flexibility in the system. Justification is also presented for local design and assembly of the overall system. A summary of the demonstration system which illustrates the advantages and feasibility of the overall system is included in this discussion. Two ideas are discussed which are not considered to be viable alternatives to the proposed system: addition of the data handling capabilities to the semiportable ''cart'' and use of a telephone link to a large computer center.
