Book Structural Properties of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Masonry

Download or read book Structural Properties of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Masonry written by JH. Matthys and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autoclaved aerated concrete masonry units are manufactured from Portland cement, quartz sand, water, lime, gypsum and a gas forming agent. The units are steam cured under pressure in an autoclave transforming the material into a hard calcium silicate. The autoclaved aerated concrete masonry units are large-size solid rectangular prisms which are laid using thin-bed mortar layers into masonry assemblages. The system and product are not new - patented in 1924 by Swedish architect Johan Eriksson. Over a period of 60 years this product has been used in all areas of residential and industrial construction and in virtually all climates. However, the principal locations of application have been generally outside the U.S. Little information in the U.S. is available on the structural properties of this product. Due to the interest in use of this product in the construction industry and the construction of production plants in the U.S., the Construction Research Center at the University of Texas at Arlington and Robert L. Nelson & Associates conducted a series of tests to determine some of the basic structural properties of this product. This paper presents the findings of those investigations.

Book Eco efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks

Download or read book Eco efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks written by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masonry walls constitute the interface between the building’s interior and the outdoor environment. Masonry walls are traditionally composed of fired-clay bricks (solid or perforated) or blocks (concrete or earth-based), but in the past (and even in the present) they were often associated as needing an extra special thermal and acoustical insulation layer. However, over more recent years investigations on thermal and acoustical features has led to the development of new improved bricks and blocks that no longer need these insulation layers. Traditional masonry units (fired-clay bricks, concrete or earth-based blocks) that don’t offer improved performance in terms of thermal and acoustical insulation are a symbol of a low-technology past, that are far removed from the demands of sustainable construction. This book provides an up-to-date state-of-the-art review on the eco-efficiency of masonry units, particular emphasis is placed on the design, properties, performance, durability and LCA of these materials. Since masonry units are also an excellent way to reuse bulk industrial waste the book will be important in the context of the Revised Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC which states that the minimum reuse and recycling targets for construction and demolition waste (CDW) should be at least 70% by 2020. On the 9th of March 2011 the European Union approved the Regulation (EU) 305/2011, known as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and it will be enforced after the 1st of July 2013. The future commercialization of construction materials in Europe makes their environmental assessment mandatory meaning that more information related to the environmental performance of building materials is much needed. Provides an authoritative guide to the eco-efficiency of masonry units Examines the reuse of waste materials Covers a range of materials including, clay, cement, earth and pumice

  • ISBN : 9783659407741
  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book Autoclaved Aerated Concrete AAC written by Moore Ellie (Elham) and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a multi-disciplinary research on a number of material and structural characteristics of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or AAC. AAC is claimed to have favorable construction, structural and environmental qualities, with great potential to becoming a more commonly used building material; it is light weight, non-combustible, resource efficient, and has acoustic isolating and thermal insulating properties. These characteristics affect different aspects of a construction project, in terms of cost, workability, time, carbon footprint and more. The purpose of this research is to study AAC as a building material to potentially substitute wood or conventional CMU for low-rise residential buildings in Southern California. The book concludes that AAC possesses desirable characteristics, such as light weigh, and higher R-value in comparison with other building materials, and some undesirable characteristics, such as lower shear strength in comparison to conventional reinforced CMU. Taking into account the findings of this book, AAC has unique qualities and potentials worth considering, depending on the requirements of any particular project.

Book Compressive Strength of Concrete

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.
