Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an autobiography of my life with my brother, Don from my early years growing up in Washington, D.C. as my mother Bernice Augusta along with my father, John H. Adams Sr. for part of the period nurtured, sacrificed and cared for us with meager funds. After separation from my father, my mother struggled even more and for several years twice sent us to Tulsa, Ok, where we were nurtured and given the utmost love, and learned to honor Jesus Christ by my maternal Grandmother, Minnie Mae Guess, who we affectionately called "Mama Dear". Quintessentially my greatest fortune in my life was meeting and marrying Helen, who I met at Howard University. As I reflect back on our 52 years of marriage, she was the catalyst for any career success I had in the military and later in the U.S Government and for writing this book. She loved & adored her four children and a committed worshiper of Jesus Christ. However after her passing, I was again so fortunate to meet a gracious and lovely lady, named Rolando who has also accepted me with all of my imperfections and have made my life complete. Jack Adams

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jack Adams, the Mutineer Fifty years ago, a ship to be at sea for three months, and no punishment, to occur was a rare circumstance indeed. But it was destined that the voyage should not be completed without recourse to the cat. On a complaint from the master, Mr. Fryer, that Matthew Quinta] had been guilty of mutinous behavior and insolent language, he was seized up, and received two dozen lashes. This punishment was not by any means adequate to the offence for, in voy ages of discovery, strict discipline is more requisite. Than at any other time. Left, as it were, without a friend to assist, the small ship's company in their frail bark, traqe the wide ocean. They are alone, and without a hope of assistance. The fire caused by negligence might destroy them - the drunkard might occasion mis chief, which no after-thought could rem edy - and the skulker, by being absent from his station, might lose a mast, or split a sail. It is, therefore due to the character of Bligh to say, that up to this time, although his language was coarse and disreputable, he never had been a tyrant. The first introduction of the cat gave occasion to many remarks between decks. Adams was the man who declared it absolutely necessary, and who said Quin tal had got merely what he deserved. Book excerpt: "In 1925, Paul Adams was appointed custodian of Mount Le Conte, the third-highest peak of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His job was to welcome tourists, give guided tours, and establish a camp that would become known as LeConte Lodge, which still stands in what has become America's most popular national park. Adams had everything he needed for the job: a passion for the outdoors, a love of hiking, a desire to preserve the native habitat while welcoming visitors, and the companionship of a remarkable dog. During his time on the mountains, Adams trained Smoky Jack to be a pack-dog -- not just carrying supplies but actually making the four-hour trip to the store in Gatlinburg and back alone. Throughout Smoky Jack, readers gain a unique glimpse into the early days of the Great Smoky Mountains region during the decade before it was name[d] a national park in 1934. Adams describes the trials and triumphs he and the indomitable German shepherd faced as they exemplified the ancient relationship between man and dog on Mount Le Conte, building trails, guiding visitors, and making a life in nature." -- Provided by publisher.

Book Samuel Adams

Download or read book Samuel Adams written by William M. Fowler and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1997 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From preface: Samuel Adams occupied a unique place among the founders of the American republic. He lived through all of the events that lead to establishing a constitutional federal republic, and served as governor of one of the more important states in the young nation. Yet unlike Washington, Jefferson, and Madison, he was not an aristocratic landowner by family, nor a soldier or lawyer by profession. Nor did he stem from a line of well-to-do merchants like the leaders from New York or Rhode Island. William Fowler's lively book describes the long and eventful life of key figures [with special attention focused on Samuel Adams] in the development of the early republic. In doing so it also clarifies a significant aspect of American life.
