Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Sandra Barney examines the transformation of medical care in Central Appalachia during the Progressive Era and analyzes the influence of women volunteers in promoting the acceptance of professional medicine in the region. By highlighting the critical role played by nurses, clubwomen, ladies' auxiliaries, and other female constituencies in bringing modern medicine to the mountains, she fills a significant gap in gender and regional history. Barney explores both the differences that divided women in the reform effort and the common ground that connected them to one another and to the male physicians who profited from their voluntary activity. Held together at first by a shared goal of improving the public welfare, the coalition between women volunteers and medical professionals began to fracture when the reform agendas of women's groups challenged physicians' sovereignty over the form of health care delivery. By examining the professionalization of male medical practitioners, the gendered nature of the campaign to promote their authority, and their displacement of community healers, especially female midwives, Barney uncovers some of the tensions that evolved within Appalachian society as the region was fundamentally reshaped during the era of industrial development.

Why are some people healed and some not? Does God give ordinary Christians the authority to heal? As Ken Blue explores these questions he found plenty of answers, but none that satisified him. He wanted answers that were true to Scripture and true to a loving and just God. His search into the Bible and into the ministry of healing has produced a rich and very human book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is divine healing for you? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? You can be healed and happy by possessing the abundant life God desires for you—today! Possessing Your Healing—Taking Authority over Sickness in Your Life challenges the religious constructs that prevent people from walking in their healing. “Sacred cows” are examined that may be hindering the flow of the power of God in your life. You will be challenged, encouraged, enlightened—and most of all, you will be blessed when you use the practical keys to unlock God’s promise of healing for born-again believers. Because of the lack of manifestation of healing in people’s lives and the hopelessness that sickness produces, people have judged God as unfaithful; they do not see God as their Healer, their personal Great Physician—yet that is exactly what He is. Possessing Your Healing is not written especially for ministers or people involved in healing ministry—it simply gives every believer the basic principles of the New Covenant and shows how everyone can enter into the reality of healing. This book teaches you how to be healed!

Book excerpt: No self-respecting family objects when a family member seeks healing for a physical injury. But telling outsiders that someone in the family has a disease can be a different story. In Ireland, people will tend to say the person is not well and avoid saying it is cancer or anything else that may be considered serious. Emotional injuries are met with even less acceptance. From a family point of view, physical injuries bring no shame, disease may bring some shame; however, emotional or mental health issues can put you in the category of the 'untouchables.' Some families do not want to hear any 'bad news.' If your family demands that you keep sensitive information private, you may not be given permission to share your pain. To protect the guilty, it is necessary to silence the innocent. Victims should not have to fear rejection from their own families. But rejection is precisely what may happen. Should you remain in pain? Do you need their permission to heal? If they reject you for breaking the family code of silence, can you handle the rejection?George is an ordained pastor in California. He also has a Master's degree in both Theology and Counseling from Northwest Baptist Theological Seminary, in Canada. George and his wife, Linda, currently reside in Redding, California.

Matt., 12th Ch. 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth...
