Book Inculturating the Eucharist Towards Reconciliation and Forgiveness

Download or read book Inculturating the Eucharist Towards Reconciliation and Forgiveness written by Godfrey Aligawesa and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the new millennium, traditional African cultures are coming into contact with modernity rapid changes. The churches have become aware of the need of inculturating the Christian message into African Context, and the need of dialogue in order to make this inculturation process efffective. They have seen this need as they focus upon faith and culture and how they are interpenetrated. They have noted how this inculturation process is weakening or strengthening spirituality among themselves. Today, some church members seem to be concerned about the state of reconciliation and forgiveness. However, there are challenges of traditional reconciliation rituals that conflict with Christian spirituality. It is suggested that some of traditional rites of African culture for healing and reconciling be improved. The book provides the process struggle of reconciliation and forgiveness as a long drawn out process with ups and downs. The ethical and spiritual dimensions of these struggles are fundamental. The church should empower the people to strengthen the whole process of inculturating the Eucharist towards reconciliation and forgiveness, an endeavor to achieve proper Christian spirituality.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among other relevant issues, this book adds new insights to the proposed Igbo Christian rites of reconciliation. Towards an inculturation, the resolutional equations of the Igbo cultural method of reconciliation - oriko in ala di mma - are balanced with the sacrament of reconciliation in operational life of the people who are pastorally concerned. In this context, the author refers to the Owerri archdiocesan working document on emume nsacha na ndozi, meaning a ritual of purification and peace, as well as to the Igbo Christian rite of reconciliation proposed by Augustine Echema. The method of these new rites is para-liturgical in nature which highlights the importance of reconciliation of human beings with themselves, their neighbours and God, whenever sin has taken place. Paradoxically, this new method of reconciliation can broaden ecumenism and strengthens the social, cultural, political and religious lives of the people. In this sense, reconciliation can be seen as a natural spiritual cord that ties people to themselves and to God in a communal and Christian environment.

Book Integrating Cheefenu and the Christian Understanding and Practice of Reconciliation

Download or read book Integrating Cheefenu and the Christian Understanding and Practice of Reconciliation written by Edmond A. Ludwick and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Division more than ever has now become a challenging reality in Chuuk. Division manifests itself in the entire social system in the islands. It is a challenging situation calls for reconciliation. Cheefenu, the cultural practice of reconciliation, and the "court system" are found inadequate to produce genuine peace among the people. Reconciliation, from the Christian perspective, is always God's gift. It is God's initiative, and it begins with God who is reconciliation Himself. Reconciliation finds its full meaning and expression in the mission of Jesus Christ. This mission is carried on by his reconciling community, the Church, and this is the same mission of the local Church in Chuuk. This study proposes two ways of doing reconciliation as part of the local Church's reconciling mission in the islands. The first one is Christian reconciliation in general. This is where Christ's reconciling message, that is proclaimed by the magisterium and reflected upon also by other theoligians, is inculturated in the social system in Chuuk. The second one pertains to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where elements of the cultural practice of reconciliation are integrated into the Sacrament of Reconciliation. All these are all achieved through the SEE-DISCERNMENT-ACT method of theological reflection. The historical method of research is used as necessary information and data from books are gathered, analyzed, evaluated, interpreted and coded to achieve the aim of this study.

Book Reconciled to Reconcile

Download or read book Reconciled to Reconcile written by Komi Ahiatroga Hiagbe and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the words of John Paul II, «A faith which does not become culture is a faith that has not been received, not thoroughly thought (through), nor fully lived out». It is for this reason that inculturation hermeneutics has become a useful reflective tool for many African students of Theology. In this work, the author argues that the concept of salvation in evangelical Christian thought as postulated in the works of the French Reformer John Calvin and that of African Traditional Religions do not connote the same idea nor lead to the same goals. In spite of the basic differences, he states that symbols, metaphors and some practices from the traditional religions of Africa can be employed as hermeneutical tools for the explanation of concepts of the Christian faith. The author therefore concludes that the Anlo-Ewe traditional religious practice of nugbidodo-ritual reconciliation best explains Christian salvation as man's reconciliation with God and constitutes a basis for the healing, deliverance, and a socio-economic advancement of the individual and the entire community.

Book Resolving the Prevailing Conflicts Between Christianity and African Igbo Traditional Religion Through Inculturation

Download or read book Resolving the Prevailing Conflicts Between Christianity and African Igbo Traditional Religion Through Inculturation written by Edwin Anaegboka Udoye and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2011 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For not integrating initially some of the good elements in Igbo culture, many Igbo Christians have double personality - Christian personality and traditional personality. They are Christians on Sundays but traditionalists on weekdays. To combat such an anomalous situation, in imitation of Christ's effort at completing what was lacking in the Jewish religion, author Edwin Udoye proposes radical inculturation. His book equally contains many serious theological reflections such that it recommends itself to both theologians and the scholars researching on the religions of the world. Udoye has therefore made a very significant contribution worthy of commendation to both theological and religious studies.
