The wastewater resulting from acrylonitrile production from acetylene and hydrogen cyanide contains cyanohydrins, generated by the subsequent reactions of the formed acrylonitrile. When tackling cyanohydrins recovery reactions from a theoretical viewpoint, the author considers the reactions that occur as β eliminations (1,2 eliminations) from a O ― C bond, followed by the formation of a double ketonic bond. I find this approach extremely interesting, since most of the Reaction Mechanisms books consider the reversible addition of hydrogen cyanide to the carbonyl group and not the β elimination reaction. I consider this approach as extremely useful for the topic of this work. c. Although the object of this work is a technological one, the manner in which the author tackles it is a scientific approach of an issue in which he has had a rich both theoretical and practical experience and which he wishes to share with his readers. I openheartedly recommend Mr. Jumanca’s book to all those interested in issues of organic chemistry, in the organic reactions mechanism and in the organic research and practical technology.
