Book Ancient and Medieval Teenage Diaries

Download or read book Ancient and Medieval Teenage Diaries written by Anne Hart and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This trilogy of ancient and medieval teenage diary stories with a time-travel theme spotlights their adventures in ancient Rome during the Republic in 150 BCE, Medieval Kiev, the Caucasus, Khazaria, and the Levant in the 9th and 10th century through the eyes of a 13-year old boy, a 16-year old girl, and their royal family in the days of the Kagan of the Khazars. When the Kagan of the Khazars is captured and held in a Viking ship, his son must rescue him alone and help the family to walk from Khazaria to a new homeland. The boy and his father, masters of a thousand disguises must find a way to reach their destination and reunite the rest of the family. The stories take place in ancient and Medieval times when most people had no hope other than the grace of the Almighty, the coming of the Meshiach, or the arrival of the Khazars. They got not only the medieval Khazars, but also some ancient Romans interested also in the virtues of righteousness and responsibility. In the second story, Teenage Princess Tarbagatay rides with the young Queen of the Huns and acts as the Queen's confident and friend as she writes her Dear Diaries. In another diary story of this trilogy, Petronius sets sail for Carthage only to find he must be back in ancient Rome to stop a slave rebellion.

Helena Walton-Cisneros, known for finding answers to the impossible, has started her own detective agency. She takes on two new uncanny cases, both located in Paris – which itself is too much of a coincidence to ignore. In the first case, two English women claim to have seen the ghost of Marie Antoinette in the gardens of Versailles. The second case is the murder of a young woman working at the mysterious Méliès Star Films studio outside Paris. As Helena and her colleague Eliza investigate, they hear whispers of vanishings at Méliès Star Films, strange lights, spies, actors flying without ropes and connections to the occult. What is George Méliès practising at his secretive film studio? And is it connected to the haunting in Versailles? Helena and Eliza will only find the answers if they accept the natural world is darker, stranger than they could ever have imagined…

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life itself is like a brushstroke in the History of the Universe. If we keep the last moments of the existence, we can compare it to the last and intimate contact of the brush with the canvas, which is almost imperceptible. But when referring to LIFE, the last sigh turns into something supreme, selfish, dissenting, painful, emotional, and even magical, I dare say. This is why there is always a place for doubt, for fair, for surprise or even for distrustful confidence, slackening tension or demoralised moral.

Book Gnosis and Hermeticism from Antiquity to Modern Times

Download or read book Gnosis and Hermeticism from Antiquity to Modern Times written by R. van den Broek and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume introduces what has sometimes been called "the third component of western culture". It traces the historical development of those religious traditions which have rejected a world view based on the primacy of pure rationality or doctrinal faith, emphasizing instead the importance of inner enlightenment or gnosis: a revelatory experience which was typically believed to entail an encounter with one's true self as well as with the ground of being, God. The contributors to this book demonstrate this perspective as fundamental to a variety of interconnected traditions. In Antiquity, one finds the gnostics and hermetics; in the Middle Ages several Christian sects. The medieval Cathars can, to a certain extent, be considered part of the same tradition. Starting with the Italian humanist Renaissance, hermetic philosophy became of central importance to a new religious synthesis that can be referred to as Western Esotericism. The development of this tradition is described from Renaissance hermeticists and practitioners of spiritual alchemy to the emergence of Rosicrucianism and Christian theosophy in the seventeenth century, and from post-enlightenment aspects of Romanticism and occultism to the present-day New Age movement.
