Download or read book Aunt Effie s Ark written by Jack Lasenby and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second book in the hilarious and outrageous 'Aunt Effie' series for junior readers. Aunt Effie, dressed in her green canvas invalid's pyjamas, hibernates all winter, leaving her 26 resourceful nieces and nephews to deal with snowstorm and flood, ravening monsters, a barnful of hungry animals and a wild ark-ride over the Vast Untrodden Ureweras. Among the comic cast of cousins are Daisy, whose primness puckers the mouth, Alwyn, who echoes and 'backwardises' the most emphatic statements, and Jack, a junior version of Jack-the-deer-culler Lasenby. There's a horse who acts as a dubiously qualified doctor, a gander who causes the ark to roll, and cows with insomnia - snoring in tune. With his trademark embellishments and wonderful blend of humour, excitement and wacky fun, award-winning writer Jack Lasenby has created another story of mayhem and delight.

Book Aunt Effie and the Island That Sank

Download or read book Aunt Effie and the Island That Sank written by Jack Lasenby and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third, crazy, Spike Milliganesque story in the hilarious Aunt Effie series for junior readers. Aunt Effie is restless. She and her 26 nieces and nephews are off again in the scow Margery Daw on a treasure hunt across the pirate-infested waterways of the Hauraki Gulf and The Waikato. However boat and crew become marvellously sidetracked: the scow is converted into a travelling cowshed for cross-country travel; a hot-pool swim makes the little ones go bendy; the race between Banana Bob's Model T Ford and Uncle Chris's Stanley Steamer is fraught with high-jinks and skulduggery. Meanwhile back in Auckland, One Tree Hill has sprung a leak and Rangitoto Island is sinking while the Prime Minister gambles away the nation's taxes in the Casino Tower. In this third Aunt Effie travelogue, Jack Lasenby creates another glorious, crazy kaleidoscope of time, place and circumstance.

Book Memoirs of a Confederate Gentleman

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Thomas received two news clippings from his favorite aunt, he never could have anticipated the historical odyssey that the obituary and the story about the sale of an antebellum plantation in Charleston, South Carolina, would take him on. Intrigued by all things Civil War, he travels to South Carolina to the estate sale and purchases a trunk in which he finds the diaries of Major Charles McGuire. The diaries inspire him to write The Memoirs of a Confederate Gentleman... Charles Everson McGuire was born into a world of peace and plenty. Life for him and those he loved would promise only more of the same. Upon his eighteenth birthday, he is sent to England for his education and to learn the family textile manufacturing business. As the years pass and war becomes inevitable, the drums and bugles call from across the Atlantic. Charles realizes that he must go home and confront the issues of states' rights, slavery, and family obligations head on. Upon his return, Charles marries the beautiful and spirited Josephine St. John. He promises his new bride he will not join the conflict between the states, but that promise is soon broken when the Confederacy convinces him that his help and resources are critical for victory. But victory is not to be for the South. The horror of war and the devastation of the major's homeland and his way of life lead him to question his faith and all that he has been taught. Charles finds that he must pick up the pieces of his shattered life and build a new existence for him and those who depend on him. But will he be able to start a fresh life in the new union? Thomas William Tear lives in the quaint, historic town of New Castle, Delaware, where he designs reproductions of historic clothing for Civil War reenactors. He has written numerous short stories and information pamphlets. Memoirs of a Confederate Gentleman is his first novel.

Download or read book Marguerite s Diary written by Michael Blair and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-05-04 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you don’t read anything else, please read this. It is OK to be different. Went I went to school there wasn’t anything as a LD student. If there were I would have been classified as LD. If your speech was slow and you were tongue tied or couldn’t hear to good or if you had dyslexia or couldn’t see too well you would end up in the back of the room. Kids would beat up on me because they though I was different. I was chased home by some of the schoolboys until I found it was a game for them. Since I was in the back of the room I couldn’t hear the teacher too well. When the teacher discovered that I hadn’t done what she said, she came back and hit me with her first in the middle of my back. That was sixty-three years ago and I still have pain in my back. Sometimes I have not been able to walk from this. You should not laugh or make fun of others or old people. After they get up around seventy they mostly talk about sickness and doctors. Some people are Paralyze from the neck down. Some people have dysconia which can give you pain and cripple you. Some people have Parkinson decease or even hiccups or stutter for years. Some people are Mongoloid or have Down syndrome and some have tourette. Or other decease. Some have Lupus.
