Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From USA Today bestselling author Christina Hovland comes a rockstar, opposites-attract, fish-out-of-water romantic comedy. Mach Powers lives the dream. What more could he want? He’s Dimefront’s guitarist. He lives by his own rules and gets pretty much everything he wants. But there is one issue. When he swipes right for a pretend publicity date with a fan he falls straight into dinner with Darla Davis. His world is suddenly out of whack and everything he thought he wanted goes out the window. Coming off a failed engagement with one of the doctors at her hospital, the only thing Darla wants is privacy and a chance to find her footing again. Finally ready to get back out there, she swipes right for an online date. Only the “date” is a publicity stunt with a rockstar. Her not-so-fake date now has her on the cover of tabloids as America’s “new” sweetheart. There goes her privacy and her sanity. Mach and his team swear they’ll fix it and get her back to her quiet life. However, when things start to heat up for real this time, is Mach willing to give up his preferred single lifestyle? More importantly will Darla give up her peace and quiet for the love of a rockstar?

Book A Girl s Journey

Download or read book A Girl s Journey written by Paméla Tate-Roger and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-02-21 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Girls Journey: There's No Crying in Baseball is a childrens book illustrating the character and integrity of a young trailblazer. My name is Pamla Tate-Roger, the author of this groundbreaking project and mother of this young trailblazer named Leiyah. A Girls Journey: There's No Crying in Baseball is based on my daughters experience in becoming the first female baseball player at her middle school in San Francisco, California. In addition to that, she became the first female baseball player to ever play in a SFUSD Boys Middle School Baseball Championship, and ultimately, she became the first female player to ever play on a SFUSD Middle School Boys Championship Baseball Team in 2013. This groundbreaking life event was written for the purpose of teaching children and families about fortitude, integrity, gender roles, and the concept of team. Since the Championship game in 2013, Leiyahs middle school team went on to play in the 2014 playoffs, but they were eliminated in the second round. Leiyah has been fortunate to have selected to play for San Francisco Rec and Parks first ever All-Girls Baseball Team, the San Francisco Bay Sox, who will represent the City and County of San Francisco in the Inaugural Baseball For All Tournament in Orlando, FL May 30 June 4, 2015 (visit www.baseballforall.com for more information). The world has undergone such drastic changes in how gender roles are formulated and shaped within the last couple of decades. Women have made great strides in civil, academic, and professional arenas; however, many areas remain male-dominated. Even with the 2014 success of Mone Davis, the first girl to earn a win and to pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series, a girls road in this male dominated sport is riddled with bumps and bruises. A Girls Journey: There's No Crying in Baseball is written to illustrate how destructive bullying and antiquated stereotypes can be, as well as how growth and strength comes from hard work and perseverance when a girl decides do something out of the "normal confines of society and she decides she wants to play baseball. The book contains fifty-eight pages, twenty-four illustrations, and is in hardcover as well as e-book format. The book contains 12 site words, 18 challenge words, and 5 open-ended discussion questions and 1,898 words. This book is self-published and will be available online, in stores, or on my website at www.pamelatateroger.com, on May 1, 2015. We are currently scheduling book-signing events, children's writing workshops, and other promotional opportunities. Please contact my support team at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!

A wise and soulful coach, Jessica lights the way towards each sign's most evolved (and happiest) expression. Her prose is fresh, supple and seductive, as though it was Venus herself who'd been doing the typing."—Dana Gerhardt, columnist with The Mountain Astrologer

Book The Sound of Gravel

Download or read book The Sound of Gravel written by Ruth Wariner and published by Flatiron Books. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times bestseller, The Sound of Gravel is the remarkable true story of one girl's coming-of-age in a polygamist Mormon Doomsday cult. “A haunting, harrowing testament to survival." — People Magazine “An addictive chronicle of a polygamist community.” — New York Magazine Ruth Wariner was the thirty-ninth of her father’s forty-two children. Growing up on a farm in rural Mexico, where authorities turned a blind eye to the practices of her community, Ruth lives in a ramshackle house without indoor plumbing or electricity. At church, preachers teach that God will punish the wicked by destroying the world and that women can only ascend to Heaven by entering into polygamous marriages and giving birth to as many children as possible. After Ruth's father--the man who had been the founding prophet of the colony--is brutally murdered by his brother in a bid for church power, her mother remarries, becoming the second wife of another faithful congregant. In need of government assistance and supplemental income, Ruth and her siblings are carted back and forth between Mexico and the United States, where her mother collects welfare and her step-father works a variety of odd jobs. Ruth comes to love the time she spends in the States, realizing that perhaps the community into which she was born is not the right one for her. As Ruth begins to doubt her family’s beliefs and question her mother’s choices, she struggles to balance her fierce love for her siblings with her determination to forge a better life for herself. Recounted from the innocent and hopeful perspective of a child, The Sound of Gravel is the remarkable true story of a girl fighting for peace and love. This is an intimate, gripping book resonant with triumph, courage, and resilience.

Book The Mother s Manual

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who am I and where do I come to write this book? I feel it necessary to address all aspects of motherhood, so I decided to include both the sweetness and delight plus the shadow side of motherhood in this book. Some challenging life situations occur that are vital for us to consider, so I am including some disquieting statistics. Because many women (and men) have refrained from checking within themselves or making an examination on emotional, mental, physical and spiritual planes about having children, hardships have been created, both personally and planetary.

Book Educated

Download or read book Educated written by Tara Westover and published by Random House. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, AND BOSTON GLOBE BESTSELLER • One of the most acclaimed books of our time: an unforgettable memoir about a young woman who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University “Extraordinary . . . an act of courage and self-invention.”—The New York Times NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW • ONE OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE YEAR • BILL GATES’S HOLIDAY READING LIST • FINALIST: National Book Critics Circle’s Award In Autobiography and John Leonard Prize For Best First Book • PEN/Jean Stein Book Award • Los Angeles Times Book Prize Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University. Only then would she wonder if she’d traveled too far, if there was still a way home. “Beautiful and propulsive . . . Despite the singularity of [Westover’s] childhood, the questions her book poses are universal: How much of ourselves should we give to those we love? And how much must we betray them to grow up?”—Vogue NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Washington Post • O: The Oprah Magazine • Time • NPR • Good Morning America • San Francisco Chronicle • The Guardian • The Economist • Financial Times • Newsday • New York Post • theSkimm • Refinery29 • Bloomberg • Self • Real Simple • Town & Country • Bustle • Paste • Publishers Weekly • Library Journal • LibraryReads • Book Riot • Pamela Paul, KQED • New York Public Library
