Download or read book Auction of Emotions written by Yasir Monon and published by Yasir Monon. This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of short stories is an attempt at painting the closest possible picture of the daily lives of people from the author's part of the world. Various social topics and stigmas have been portrayed here through the emotions and stories of the characters in this short stories collection. The objective of this presentation does not lie towards influence but rather on the direction of acquaintance. A few of the stories are inspired from true events whereas others are pure work of fiction derived from everyday information. However, the issues addressed are as real as the day is true. The author only hopes to make sure that whichever the story may be, the readers are touched by them and relate somehow with their own lives.`In addition, the translator has been careful of keeping the real flavor of the stories intact while trying to successfully tell these tales in a foreign language. Her only hope is for the forgiving heart of the readers should they run into any transliteration mistakes.
Download or read book Emotion Regulation and Bidding in Auctions written by Gerlinde Utsch and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-06-09 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, grade: 1,0, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (Institute of Information Systems and Management (IISM)), language: English, abstract: “Emotion has taken the center stage in decision theory, and with it emotion regulation promises to play an increasingly prominent role in psychology, economics and cognitive neuroscience”. This quotation from Heilman, Crisan, Houser, Miclea and Miu (2010) alludes to the rising interest in the investigation of emotional processing in economics in the last few years and to the recognition of the importance of the connection between emotions, physiology and behavior in economic decision-making. But what is the relation of emotions to economics? Gross and Thompson (2006) state that “emotions arise when an individual attends to a situation and sees it as relevant to his or her goals”. Beside this definition of emotion there exist many other definitions, for example that “emotions reflect the status of one’s ongoing adjustment to constantly changing environmental demands” (Thayer & Lane, 2009) which is relevant in economics. Emotions can impair decision-making and can lead to irrational decisions which are not regarded in common prospect theory (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979). Emotions are regulated by humans in different ways. Two main emotion regulation strategies are pointed out by Gross and John (2003): cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression which intervene in the emotion generative process at different points of time. The emotion regulation depends on an individual’s ability to adjust physiological arousal on a momentary basis (Appelhans & Luecken, 2006). This is reflected by the resting heart rate variability (HRV) as an objective measure for individual differences in regulated emotional responding. HRV is considered a measure of heart-brain interactions and the flexible dynamic regulation of the autonomic nervous system (McCraty & Childre, 2010) as well as a sensitive indicator of inhibitory control mechanisms relevant for decision-making (Sütterlin, Herbert, Schmitt, Kübler & Vögele, 2011a). Because of their influence in economics it is important to better understand cognitive processes and that can be achieved by physiological measurements of HRV which give an objective insight in the emotional processing of individuals. Physiological parameters like skin conductance and heart rate are related to economic decision-making. Studies have already shown that physiological arousal can be a predictor for decision-making behavior (Adam, Gamer, Hey, Ketter & Weinhardt, 2009). [...]
Download or read book Feeling Smart written by Eyal Winter and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2014-12-30 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Which is smarter -- your head or your gut? It's a familiar refrain: you're getting too emotional. Try and think rationally. But is it always good advice? In this surprising book, Eyal Winter asks a simple question: why do we have emotions? If they lead to such bad decisions, why hasn't evolution long since made emotions irrelevant? The answer is that, even though they may not behave in a purely logical manner, our emotions frequently lead us to better, safer, more optimal outcomes. In fact, as Winter discovers, there is often logic in emotion, and emotion in logic. For instance, many mutually beneficial commitments -- such as marriage, or being a member of a team -- are only possible when underscored by emotion rather than deliberate thought. The difference between pleasurable music and bad noise is mathematically precise; yet it is also something we feel at an instinctive level. And even though people are usually overconfident -- how can we all be above average? -- we often benefit from our arrogance. Feeling Smart brings together game theory, evolution, and behavioral science to produce a surprising and very persuasive defense of how we think, even when we don't.

Download or read book Market Engineering written by Henner Gimpel and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides a broad range of insights on market engineering and information management. It covers topics like auctions, stock markets, electricity markets, the sharing economy, information and emotions in markets, smart decision-making in cities and other systems, and methodological approaches to conceptual modeling and taxonomy development. Overall, this book is a source of inspiration for everybody working on the vision of advancing the science of engineering markets and managing information for contributing to a bright, sustainable, digital world. Markets are powerful and extremely efficient mechanisms for coordinating individuals’ and organizations’ behavior in a complex, networked economy. Thus, designing, monitoring, and regulating markets is an essential task of today’s society. This task does not only derive from a purely economic point of view. Leveraging market forces can also help to tackle pressing social and environmental challenges. Moreover, markets process, generate, and reveal information. This information is a production factor and a valuable economic asset. In an increasingly digital world, it is more essential than ever to understand the life cycle of information from its creation and distribution to its use. Both markets and the flow of information should not arbitrarily emerge and develop based on individual, profit-driven actors. Instead, they should be engineered to serve best the whole society’s goals. This motivation drives the research fields of market engineering and information management. With this book, the editors and authors honor Professor Dr. Christof Weinhardt for his enormous and ongoing contribution to market engineering and information management research and practice. It was presented to him on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday in April 2021. Thank you very much, Christof, for so many years of cooperation, support, inspiration, and friendship.

Book excerpt: In the near future, a machinist, a monk, and a mesmerizer are looking for the Source of the universe, but among the ancient scriptures, they only find the devil ... Few humans in the future find the secrets of what words and sounds can do, for the Apocalypse and war have led them to evolve in mind and physique. Two of them end World War III with just a four-minute speech. Some say they did mass hypnosis. Others say it was their voice and will. Fifty years later in South Asia, KUSHA, a twenty-three-year-old machine-geek with social awkwardness and amnesia, tries to get the Devil’s Book with secrets of voice. But her idol of voice and everyone's beloved war heroes, YUAN and RUEM, are also after it for power. In a society that worships the evolved High Grades with voice, how you speak and which words you talk with is important. As someone who finds all solutions in books, Kusha thinks the secrets in the three-foot-long ancient book will teach her to speak mesmerizingly. She believes it will help her evolve. So, she decides to attend the auction where the book will be sold. But there's a problem; powerful High Grades want the book too. They want to code fate, rewriting the material world. They are undead, immortal mesmerizers. And being a philosopher, Kusha admires their ethics while she must fight them—the fight that starts with the book.
