Download or read book Modernism beyond the Human written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the defining features of modernism lies in its far-reaching rethinking of the relation between the human and the non-human. In the present volume, this crucial aspect of modernism’s legacy is investigated from an authentically transnational perspective, taking an innovative stance on a diverse range of authors – from posthumanist classics such as Beckett and Woolf to Valentine de Saint-Point, Radoje Domanovic and Aldo Palazzeschi among others. On the one hand, this collection sheds new light on the modernist contribution to posthumanism, providing a valuable reference point for future studies on the topic. On the other, it offers a new take on the transnational dimension of modernism, highlighting unexplored convergences between modernist authors from several different national contexts.

Download or read book The Fascist Effect written by Reto Hofmann and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-16 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Fascist Effect, Reto Hofmann uncovers the ideological links that tied Japan to Italy, drawing on extensive materials from Japanese and Italian archives to shed light on the formation of fascist history and practice in Japan and beyond. Moving between personal experiences, diplomatic and cultural relations, and geopolitical considerations, Hofmann shows that interwar Japan found in fascism a resource to develop a new order at a time of capitalist crisis. Hofmann demonstrates that fascism in Japan was neither a European import nor a domestic product; it was, rather, the result of a complex process of global transmission and reformulation. Far from being a vague term, as postwar historiography has so often claimed, for Japanese of all backgrounds who came of age from the 1920s to the 1940s, fascism conjured up a set of concrete associations, including nationalism, leadership, economics, and a drive toward empire and a new world order.
Download or read book Pasolini written by Robert Samuel Clive Gordon and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty years since his death, Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) has grown into a figure of defining importance in the history of post-war Italian literary and cinematographic culture. His extraordinary and continuing impact is explained by his capacity to appropriate and transform ordistort traditional genres, media, languages, and forms of art, and to bring them into stark confrontation with the deeply fractured social, political, and sexual landscape of modern Italy. Pasolini: Forms of Subjectivity aims at a global reassessment of Pasolini, examining in turn his journalismand essays, his poetry, his film theory and practice, and his sprawling, posthumously published narrative fragment Petrolio, all from the perspective of the complex shifting workings of subjectivity which animate every aspect of his work. Gordon provides a conceptual and interpretative frameworkwhich illuminates Pasolini's mastery of both the written word and the cinematographical world.
Download or read book Mirage and Camouflage written by Vivienne Suvini-Hand and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2000 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the tensions and contradictions in the themes and style of L'Allegria. It establishes links between Ungaretti and the French Symbolist poets, and reexamines the collection's affinity with the work of De Chirico, Cubism, Futurism and Surrealism. Offering ground-breaking views, particularly on the war poems, it demonstrates how Ungaretti used the obscure nature of Hermetic language to express his proto-Fascist and Nietzschean sympathies, thus destroying the myth of Ungaretti as a 'man of peace' searching for a religious answer to the problems of existence.
