Book The Oxford Handbook of Economics and Human Biology

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Economics and Human Biology written by Dr. John Komlos and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Economics and Human Biology provides an extensive and insightful overview of how economic conditions affect human well-being and how human health influences economic outcomes. Among the topics explored are how variations in height, whether over time, among different socio-economic groups, and in different locations, are important indicators of changes in economic growth and economic development, levels of economic inequality, and economic opportunities for individuals. The book covers a broad geographic range: Africa, Latin and North America, Asia, and Europe. Its temporal scope ranges from the late Iron Age to the present. Taking advantage of recent improvements in data and economic methods, the book also explores how humans' biological conditions influence and are influenced by their economic circumstances, including poverty. Among the issues addressed are how height, body mass index (BMI), and obesity can affect and are affected by productivity, wages, and wealth. How family environment affects health and well-being is examined, as is the importance of both pre-birth and early childhood conditions for subsequent economic outcomes. Reflecting this dynamic and expanding area of research, the volume shows that well-being is a salient aspect of economics, and the new toolkit of evidence from biological living standards enhances understanding of industrialization, commercialization, income distribution, the organization of health care, social status, and the redistributive state affect such human attributes as physical stature, weight, and the obesity epidemic in historical and contemporary populations.

Book Women Empowerment and Well Being for Inclusive Economic Growth

Download or read book Women Empowerment and Well Being for Inclusive Economic Growth written by Dixit, Shailja and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-11-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As women become more outspoken regarding their right to equal pay, it has been noted that gender equality, with women earning as much as men, would enrich the global economy. These studies have shown that equal pay, equal hours, and equal participation for women in the workforce could lead to a global wealth jump and potentially create knock-on benefits such as lower malnutrition and child mortality rates. Women Empowerment and Well-Being for Inclusive Economic Growth is a collection of innovative research that makes the case for understanding development in economic terms as well as in terms of well-being, empowerment, and participation and uncovers the role of empowering women and achieving gender equality in sustainable development. Research work and cases related to participation of a women's labor force in the economic development of the country, the place of women in society, their contribution to the social development of their country, and the problems faced by them are key features in the book. While highlighting topics including gender inequality, self-worth, and industrial policy, this book is ideally designed for economic analysts, managers, policymakers, business professionals, government officials, entrepreneurs, and business students.

Book Academic Writing Real World Topics

Download or read book Academic Writing Real World Topics written by Michael Rectenwald and published by Broadview Press. This book was released on 2015-05-28 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Writing, Real World Topics fills a void in the writing-across-the-curriculum textbook market. It draws together articles and essays of actual academic prose as opposed to journalism; it arranges material topically as opposed to by discipline or academic division; and it approaches topics from multiple disciplinary and critical perspectives. With extensive introductions, rhetorical instruction, and suggested additional resources accompanying each chapter, Academic Writing, Real World Topics introduces students to the kinds of research and writing that they will be expected to undertake throughout their college careers and beyond. Readings are drawn from various disciplines across the major divisions of the university and focus on issues of real import to students today, including such topics as living in a digital culture, learning from games, learning in a digital age, living in a global culture, our post-human future, surviving economic crisis, and assessing armed global conflict. The book provides students with an introduction to the diversity, complexity and connectedness of writing in higher education today. Part I, a short Guide to Academic Writing, teaches rhetorical strategies and approaches to academic writing within and across the major divisions of the academy. For each writing strategy or essay element treated in the Guide, the authors provide examples from the reader, or from one of many resources included in each chapter’s Suggested Additional Resources. Part II, Real World Topics, also refers extensively to the Guide. Thus, the Guide shows student writers how to employ scholarly writing practices as demonstrated by the readings, while the readings invite students to engage with scholarly content.

Book Academic Excellence in 21 Days

Download or read book Academic Excellence in 21 Days written by Eric Nwachukwu and published by Partridge Africa. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for students who want to excel academically. The guideposts and principles contained in this book will show you why and how you will become a high-flying student. I managed the local library of Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral Catholic Church Kano for over four years as an unqualified librarian and I see different students preparing for different exams in a mediocre way. What is most shocking here is that; most of these students are mediocre students due to the fact that they lack the right approach to learning, studying and preparations required for academic excellence rather than the mere exertion of studies. The principles in this book are no respecter of persons, age, gender, race, background or your location. The results are the same to whoever would apply them. It contains the distilled essence of all that you need to know and do in your academic journey to excellence. This 21---Days course has SIX stages. Each Days message/material is divided into different sub-sections dealing with one central topic literally and in a juxtapositions context. Consequently, the reader is allowed to exercise his/her power of association and observation of ideas presented in connection to the other sub-sections and signposts illustrated in the book with the application exercises.
