Book Atomization of a Liquid in a Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Atomization of a Liquid in a Supersonic Flow written by M. S. Volynskii and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the process of combustion in a high temperature supersonic flow is determined by the quality of the fuel atomization, in the engine atomization, evaporation, and mixing. The results of a study of the form of the torch of atomization and also the scale of the atomization in a supersonic flow are presented. An examination of the process of atomization is conducted within the frame work of an aerodynamically posed problem without a computation of the heat transfer and phase transitions (evaporation, dissociation etc.) It is assumed that disintegration of the liquid occurs very rapidly and the heat phenomena (in a number of cases do not succeed in influencing substantially the initial diameter of the particles (which later on, of course, are subject to evaporation).

Book The Atomization of Liquid and Two Phase Flows

Download or read book The Atomization of Liquid and Two Phase Flows written by M. S. Volynskii and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of the spraying of a liquid fuel into a supersonic gaseous stream and of the flow of the dispersed liquid is examined. Systems of equations are presented for 2 phase flow at the initial and main portions of the stream. These equations were solved with a computer and the region of vaporization of the fuel into the supersonic jet was determined. Calculations for streams at Mach 2 are in good agreement with expectations. (Author).

Book Jet in Supersonic Crossflow

Download or read book Jet in Supersonic Crossflow written by Mingbo Sun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-18 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on research into jets in supersonic crossflow carried out by the authors’ team over the past 15 years, this book summarizes and presents many cutting-edge findings and analyses on this subject. It tackles the complicated mixing process of gas jets and atomization process of liquid jets in supersonic crossflow, and studies their physical mechanisms. Advanced experimental and numerical techniques are applied to further readers’ understanding of atomization, mixing, and combustion of fuel jets in supersonic crossflow, which can promote superior fuel injection design in scramjet engines. The book offers a valuable reference guide for all researchers and engineers working on the design of scramjet engines, and will also benefit graduate students majoring in aeronautical and aerospace engineering.

Book Injection Atomization Ignition and Combustion of Liquid Fuels in High Speed Air Streams

Download or read book Injection Atomization Ignition and Combustion of Liquid Fuels in High Speed Air Streams written by Joseph A. Schetz and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental studies of the penetration, break-up and atomization of transverse liquid and slurry jets were performed. All tests were with an air cross flow at Mach 3.0 with Po = 4 atm. and To = 300 deg K. The processes studied were: (1) the effects of injectant viscosity and surface tension, (2) the performance of an impinging jet injector and (3) the effects of particle loading for a slurry jet with 3-50 micrometer particles. The diffractively scattered light method was employed at these high-density, supersonic conditions to study droplet sizes. The major results are, (1) mean droplet size is approximately 10 microns for injectors of 0.05 in., (2) it has an inverse relation with jet/free stream dynamic pressure ratio, (3) it has a direct relation with orifice diameter, (4) it decreases downstream, (5) transverse variation has no simple pattern and (6) droplet size increases with viscosity.

Book Theory and Practice of Swirl Atomizers

Download or read book Theory and Practice of Swirl Atomizers written by Yuriy I Khavkin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-10-28 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, prominent Russian scientist Yuriy I. Khavkin shows that the droplet sizes in swirl atomizers depend only on the specific energy of the liquid drops and on viscosity. The new theory based only on two parameters is shown to be far simpler and in better agreement with experimental data than any previous presentations. The following topics are included in the book: · The solution of the Navier-Stokes equation for a liquid rotating flow · Atomizers for gas turbine combustion chambers · Atomizers for high capacity steam boilers · Atomizers for liquid-propellant rocket engines · Quality of liquid atomization by non-swirl atomizers · A unique table of experimental data of 232 atomizers, enables the reader to find an atomizer with the flow rate from 5 kg/h to 15,000 kg/h Readers will also learn: · To create an atomizer with the given mean droplet size · To create an atomizer with the given droplet size distribution · To create an atomizer with the given limits of flow rate control. The book is intended for the design engineer, as well as the theoretical scientist.

Book Simulation of Primary Fuel Atomization Processes at Subcritical Pressures

Download or read book Simulation of Primary Fuel Atomization Processes at Subcritical Pressures written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents results from an LDRD project for the first-principles simulation of the early stages of spray formation (primary atomization). The first part describes a Cartesian embedded-wall method for the calculation of flow internal to a real injector in a fully coupled primary calculation. The second part describes the extension to an all-velocity formulation by introducing a momentum-conservative semi-Lagrangian advection and by adding a compressible term in the Poisson's equation. Accompanying the description of the new algorithms are verification tests for simple two-phase problems in the presence of a solid interface; a validation study for a scaled-up multi-hole Diesel injector; and demonstration calculations for the closing and opening transients of a single-hole injector and for the high-pressure injection of liquid fuel at supersonic velocity.
