Book 13th International Colloquium on Atomic Spectra and Oscillator Strengths for Astrophysical and Laboratory Plasmas

Download or read book 13th International Colloquium on Atomic Spectra and Oscillator Strengths for Astrophysical and Laboratory Plasmas written by Tomas Brage and published by . This book was released on 2020-10 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 2019, the International Symposium on Atomic Structure and Oscillator Strengths for Fusion and Astrophysical Plasma Research (ASOS) held the 13th edition of this series. ASOS originated at the University of Lund, Sweden in 1983, and this was the first time that it was held outside of Europe and the Americas. The meeting participants were a mixed international group from Europe, the Americas and Asia. This book represents a flavor of presentations made by internationally renowned experts, in a variety of fields relevant to the ASOS community. The book contains a special contribution entitled "Charlotte Froese Fischer-Her Work and Her Impact", written and presented by Professor Alan Hibbert of The Queen's University Belfast. The ASOS timing was chosen to overlap with Charlotte's 90th birthday and a significant part of the meeting was a tribute to her work. The meeting ended with a hope to meet all the participants again in Paris in 2022.

Book Plasma Atomic Physics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frank B. Rosmej
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2021-09-06
  • ISBN : 3030059685
  • Pages : 668 pages

Download or read book Plasma Atomic Physics written by Frank B. Rosmej and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-06 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasma Atomic Physics provides an overview of the elementary processes within atoms and ions in plasmas, and introduces readers to the language of atomic spectra and light emission, allowing them to explore the various and fascinating radiative properties of matter. The book familiarizes readers with the complex quantum-mechanical descriptions of electromagnetic and collisional processes, while also developing a number of effective qualitative models that will allow them to obtain adequately comprehensive descriptions of collisional-radiative processes in dense plasmas, dielectronic satellite emissions and autoionizing states, hollow ion X-ray emissions, polarized atoms and ions, hot electrons, charge exchange, atomic population kinetics, and radiation transport. Numerous applications to plasma spectroscopy and experimental data are presented, which concern magnetic confinement fusion, inertial fusion, laser-produced plasmas, and X-ray free-electron lasers’ interaction with matter. Particular highlights include the development of quantum kinetics to a level surpassing the almost exclusively used quasi-classical approach in atomic population kinetics, the introduction of the recently developed Quantum-F-Matrix-Theory (QFMT) to study the impact of plasma microfields on atomic populations, and the Enrico Fermi equivalent photon method to develop the “Plasma Atom”, where the response properties and oscillator strength distribution are represented with the help of a local plasma frequency of the atomic electron density. Based on courses held by the authors, this material will assist students and scientists studying the complex processes within atoms and ions in different kinds of plasmas by developing relatively simple but highly effective models. Considerable attention is paid to a number of qualitative models that deliver physical transparency, while extensive tables and formulas promote the practical and useful application of complex theories and provide effective tools for non-specialist readers.

Book Spectroscopy of Astrophysical Plasmas

Download or read book Spectroscopy of Astrophysical Plasmas written by A. Dalgarno and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1987-06-11 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A group of acknowledged experts describe the use of spectroscopy as a diagnostic probe of astronomical environments. The broad sweep of the book enables good coverage to be given to all the situations in which plasmas are encounteres in astronomical investigations. Specifically, the articles include quasars, Seyfert galaxies, active galactic nuclei, the solar chromosphere and corona, galactic HII regions, circumstellar shells, interstellar gas, supernova remnants and interstellar clouds. The book includes an account of the basic aspects of spectroscopy in a chapter on laboratory astrophysics. The book was stimulated by the extraordinary contributions to astronomical spectroscopy of Leo Goldberg, and is dedicated to him. Throughout, this book is written with the needs of students in astronomy and astrophysics in mind. Each chapter includes a summary or conclusions about the future direction of research. Furthermore there are extensive bibliographies. This textbook is therefore an excellent introduction to research in astrophysics and it will act as a pathfinder to the primary literature.
