Book Fusion Research

Download or read book Fusion Research written by Thomas James Dolan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion Research, Volume I: Principles provides a general description of the methods and problems of fusion research. The book contains three main parts: Principles, Experiments, and Technology. The Principles part describes the conditions necessary for a fusion reaction, as well as the fundamentals of plasma confinement, heating, and diagnostics. The Experiments part details about forty plasma confinement schemes and experiments. The last part explores various engineering problems associated with reactor design, vacuum and magnet systems, materials, plasma purity, fueling, blankets, neutronics, environment, and fusion-fission hybrids. The book will be of value to those entering the field and to those already engaged in fusion research.

Book Elementary Processes in Hydrogen Helium Plasmas

Download or read book Elementary Processes in Hydrogen Helium Plasmas written by Ratko K. Janev and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987-10-23 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic and molecular processes play an important role in laboratory and astrophysical plasmas for a wide range of conditions, and determine, in part, their electrical, transport, thermal, and radiation properties. The study of these and other plasma properties requires a knowledge of the cross sections, reaction rate coefficients, and inelastic energy transfers for a variety of collisional reactions. In this review, we provide quantitative information about the most important collision processes occurring in hy drogen, helium, and hydrogen-helium plasmas in the temperature range from 0. 1 eV to 20 keY. The material presented here is based on published atomic and molecular collision data, theoretical calculations, and appro priate extrapolation and interpolation procedures. This review gives the properties of each reaction, graphs of the cross sections and reaction rate coeffiCients, and the coefficients of analytical fits for these quantities. We present this information in a form that will enable researchers who are not experts in atomic physics to use the data easily. The authors thank their colleagues at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and in the atomic physics community who have made many useful suggestions for the selection and presentation o. f t. he material. We gratefully acknowledge the excellent technical assistance of Elizabeth Carey for the typing, and Bernie Giehl for the drafting. This work was supported in part by the U. S. Book Collision Processes and Excitation of UV Emission from Planetary Atmospheric Gases

Download or read book Collision Processes and Excitation of UV Emission from Planetary Atmospheric Gases written by SV Avakyan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few decades, the excitation and ionization of atmospheric gases has become an area of intense research. A large amount of data have been accumulated concerning the various elementary processes which occur when photons, electrons and ions collide with atoms and molecules. This scattered information has now been collected in a handbook for the first time, and the authors give a critical analysis of relevant data. This book is a comprehensive and detailed study of the available information and is distinguished by the following outstanding features: the consideration of a large number of atmospheric constituents, including H^O2, H, N^O2, N, O^O2, O, CO, CO^O2, H^O2O, HCl and some hydrocarbons the maximum number of space particles, including magnetospheric particles, are considered as projectiles: photons, electrons, hydrogen atoms, protons and helium ionsthe energy range under study corresponds to the real spectrum of cosmic fluxes, from threshold values for elementary processes up to several thousand keV the recommended values of cross sections, obtained from analysis of the available experimental data, are given in the handbook and their accuracy is estimated. These features make the handbook particularly valuable to specialists in the aeronomy of planets, comets and active perturbations, as well as to experimentalists and theoreticians working in the fields of plasma physics, atomic and molecular physics, physics of the upper atmosphere, chemical physics, optics and spectroscopy.
