Book Atmospheric Turbidity in Europe 1963 1969

Download or read book Atmospheric Turbidity in Europe 1963 1969 written by Frederic E. Volz and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmospheric turbidity in Western Europe and over the Atlantic Ocean is presented from measurements with sun photometers of solar radiation at a wavelength of 500 nm. Approximately 50 stations participated in a turbidity network for parts of the April 1963 to December 1969 period. Daily minimum values are tabulated, and turbidity at the same stations is shown graphically through December 1965. Frequency distributions for 27 stations show that average turbidity varies between about 0.05 and 0.24, depending on industrial pollution, with little seasonal difference. (Author).

Book Air Quality Fourth Edition

Download or read book Air Quality Fourth Edition written by Thad Godish and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-07-28 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ozone-destroying chemicals, greenhouse gases, and dangerous airborne substances that were once thought to be benign are the most urgent issues facing air pollution control experts. Students need a thorough, updated reference that explores these current trends while also covering the fundamental concepts of this emerging discipline. A new revision of a bestseller, Air Quality, Fourth Edition provides a comprehensive overview air quality issues, including a better understanding of atmospheric chemistry, the effects of pollution on public health and the environment, and the technology and regulatory practices used to achieve air quality goals. New sections cover toxicological principles and risk assessment. The book also contains revised discussions on public policy concerns, with a focus on air quality standards for ozone depletion and global warming, and the health effects of particulate air pollutants. This edition continues to serve as a very readable text for advanced level undergraduate and early graduate study in environmental science, environmental management, and in programs related to the study of public health, industrial hygiene, and pollution control.

Download or read book Photophysiology written by Arthur C. Giese and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-25 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photophysiology: Current Topics in Photobiology and Photochemistry, Volume VI is a collection of papers that discusses photobiological phenomena found on cells of organisms. The papers in this collection deal with specialized areas of photobiology. One paper describes the instruments used in measuring the course of chlorophyll fluorescence in vivo that occurs when a chlorophyll molecule, stimulated by a light source, returns to its ground state from a previous first singlet state, resulting in a light emission lasting for a few nanoseconds. Another paper discusses the mechanism of light-induced carotenoid synthesis in nonphotosynthetic plants, including temperature-independent photochemical reactions, which results in the organism's producing carotenoids on subsequent incubations in darkness. One paper also explains photosensitization observed in mutant cells resulting from exposure to specific wavelength of light in the presence of a natural sensitizer. This paper points out that there are four main groups of photosensitizers, namely, the hypericins, chlorophylls, porphyrins, and psoralens. This book can prove valuable for cell biologists, micro-biologists, students, and researchers involved in the fields of photobiology and photochemistry.

Book Scientific Application of Baseline Observations of Atmospheric Composition SABOAC

Download or read book Scientific Application of Baseline Observations of Atmospheric Composition SABOAC written by Dieter H. Ehhalt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Southern Hemisphere commands an increasing interest among atmospheric chemists. It has smaller and less industrialized continents than the Northern Hemisphere and thus enjoys lower emissions of anthropogenic and biogenic pollu tants. As a consequence, the concentrations of trace species are lower in the Sou thern Hemisphere, giving rise to significant inter-hemispheric gradients. From an observation of the climatology of the various trace gas gradients important conclu sions on the chemical lifetimes, the distribution of sources and transport of trace species can be derived. Thus it is only fitting that the CSIRO Division of Atmos pheric Research, Aspendale, Australia, hosted the Conference on the Scientific Application of Baseline Observations of Atmospheric Composition (SABOAC). It was convened by Dr Graeme Pearman of the CSIRO and sponsored by the CSIRO and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Graeme Pearman and Ian Galbally of the CSIRO also agreed to serve as Guest Editors. The Conference was well attended and because of its location enjoyed an un usually large number of participants from the Southern Hemisphere. About 40 papers were presented with a large share of original contributions. At this point we would like to thank the reviewers who helped to maintain strict standards. The con ference topics ranged from Nonreactive Gases, Reactive Gases, Transport, Parti culates, Precipitation Chemistry, to Radiation and Carbondioxide. The present Proceedings do not quite maintain that sequence but partly reflect the order of receipt. DIETER EHHALT 3 Journal of Atmospheric Chemistry 3 (l985), 3-27.

Book Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space Atmospheric Correction

Download or read book Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space Atmospheric Correction written by Kirill Y. Kondratyev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph being proposed for the English-speaking research community is concentrated on the atmospheric correction of satellite images as a part of thematic interpretation procedures while processing remote sensing data. For linguistic reasons a large section of the community may have been unaware of the progress made in Russia in this field of science and technology. Meanwhile, Russia was the first country to launch the first artificial satellite in 1957 and to obtain from space for the first time spectra of the Earth's atmosphere in the 1960's. New applications of the radiation transfer theory for the atmosphere underlying surface system appeared first in Russia in the 1970's. Direct and in verse problems of the atmospheric optics were then formulated giving the scientific basis for studies of natural resources from space. Since that time new mathematical treatments for the atmospheric correction procedures have been widely developed in Russia, including both analytical and numerical tech niques to simulate spectral, angular, and spatial distributions of the outgoing radiation in visual and infrared regions. The authors of the book were at the beginning of the scientific approach. A wide range of mathematical im provements to elaborate polinomial approximations for dependencies between atmospheric radiation field and parameters of space surveying was due to the necessity to process satellite images in real time using special software of ex isted computer means for the studies.
