Book Atmospheric Transmission of CO2 Laser Radiation with Application to Laser Doppler Systems

Download or read book Atmospheric Transmission of CO2 Laser Radiation with Application to Laser Doppler Systems written by S. S. R. Murty and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The molecular absorption coefficients of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrous oxide are calculated at the P16, P20, P22, and P24 lines of the CO2 laser for temperatures from 200 to 300 K and for pressures from 100 to 1100 mb. The temperature variation of the continuum absorption coefficient of water vapor is taken into account semi-empirically from Burch's data. The total absorption coefficient from the present calculations falls within +/- 20 percent of the results of McClatchey and Selby. The transmission loss which the MSFC CO2 pulsed laser Doppler system experiences has been calculated for the January 1973 flight-test conditions for the five P-lines. The total transmission loss is approximately 7 percent higher at the P16 line and 10 percent lower at the P24 line compared to the P20 line. Comparison of the CO2 laser with HF and DF laser transmission reveals the P2(8) line at 3.8 [mu]m of the DF laser is much better from the transmission point of view for altitudes below 10 km.

Book Atmospheric Transmission of Laser Radiation Computer Code LASER

Download or read book Atmospheric Transmission of Laser Radiation Computer Code LASER written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer code called LASER has been developed and documented and will be made available to interested users. LASER is a version of HITRAN which computes the monochromatic extinction coefficients for both molecular and particulate components of the atmosphere and provides results for a series of atmospheric models from sea level to 100 km in altitude. A detailed description of the calculations leading to these extinction coefficient charts is provided, and charts are provided for a number of specific laser frequencies in order to bring up to date previously published results. In addition, high spectral resolution atmospheric transmission spectra have been provided covering the regions of CO2, CO, and DF laser emission. These plotted spectra represent an up-to-date version of previously published material.

Book CO2 Lasers Effects and Applications

Download or read book CO2 Lasers Effects and Applications written by W Duley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CO2 Lasers: Effects and Applications examines and summarizes the important applications of the device in different areas of study like physics, chemistry, and engineering. In some parts of the book, the reader is assumed to be knowledgeable in university level mathematics or some specialized area in physics or chemistry. The book consists of 10 chapters where the first two establish the general concepts on lasers and CO2 lasers, respectively. Chapter 3 takes the reader further and presents a comprehensive review of optical components for use such as detectors, windows, and mirrors. Because the CO2 laser is mostly used as a heat source, the theory of laser-surface heating is relevant in the discussion. This theory is presented in Chapter 4. Chapters 5 and 6 meanwhile present a summary of observations on cutting, welding, and some related topics. The following chapters discuss the different applications of CO2 lasers in different areas and processes. Some of these applications include in the generation of thermal effect, laser deposition of thin films, spectroscopy, laser photochemistry, and meteorology and communication systems. The text is a good source of reference to both students and scientists in the areas of physics, chemistry, and engineering.

Book Atmospheric Transmittance 7 30 Micrometers

Download or read book Atmospheric Transmittance 7 30 Micrometers written by R. A. McClatchey and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High resolution transmittance curves are presented for the spectral region 320-1400 wave numbers. These spectra are useful as a guide for selecting laser wavelengths for atmospheric propagation studies in this spectral region. In addition, this report provides specific information concerning the attenuation coefficients of 41 CO2 rotational laser lines in the 10.4 micrometer band system (v3 to v1). Charts for predicting the atmospheric attenuation of the CO2 laser lines are provided for each of five climatological model atmospheres and two haze models. The current report extends the work presented in two earlier reports on (1) CO laser attenuation in the 1400-2120/cm−1 (4.72-7. 14 micrometers) region: AFCRL-71-0370 and (2) HF and DF laser attenuation in the 2120-3740/cm (2.67-4.72 micrometers) region: AFCRL-72-0312. This report, when combined with the two previous reports described above, provides synthetic spectra for the entire region from 2.67-31.25 micrometers.

Book Temperature Dependence of CO2 Laser Radiation Absorption in SF6 air Mixtures

Download or read book Temperature Dependence of CO2 Laser Radiation Absorption in SF6 air Mixtures written by Jerry L. Wagner and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental results for the temperature dependence of the 10.6 micrometer absorption coefficient of SF6-air mixtures are presented. A summary from previous works is also presented which provides complete variations of absorption coefficient with pressure, wavelength, and temperature. This fundamental physical data provides insight into the understanding of laser radiation absorption mechanisms in SF6-air mixtures. (Author).

Book CO2 Laser Radiation Absorption in SF6 air Boundary Layers

Download or read book CO2 Laser Radiation Absorption in SF6 air Boundary Layers written by John David Anderson (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous investigators have shown that gaseous sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is a strong absorber of radiation at 10.6 micrometers. This wavelength also corresponds to the output from common CO2 lasers. New experimental and theoretical results are presented for the 10.6 micrometers absorption coefficient and saturation properties of SF6-air mixtures at conditions near standard sea level. Variations with pressure, wavelength and temperature are measured. Results for 10 percent SF6-90 percent air at 1 atm show that such mixtures are stron absorbers of CO2 laser radiation, and that saturation intensities are larger than 10,000 watts/sq cm. Measurements of CO2 laser radiation absorption within boundary layers with SF6 injection are made on the sidewall of a small subsonic wind tunnel. The beam intensity is attenuated by several orders of magnitude due to absorption by the SF6. (Author).
