Book Atmospheric Propagation of Injection Laser Radiation for High Data Rate Transmission

Download or read book Atmospheric Propagation of Injection Laser Radiation for High Data Rate Transmission written by Ernst J. Schiel and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emphasis in this program was the development of a high data rate system for use in transmission through the atmosphere. This system was designed to have a large signal-to-noise ratio for distances up to 20 km and can, therefore, tolerate large insertion losses due to unfavorable weather conditions. This system has a maximum capacity of 10 megabits/sec and either PFM, PPM, or PCM can be used. With presently available military PCM equipment, simultaneous transmission of 196 audio channels is feasible. Specifically presented in this paper are: the design and construction of the transmitter and receiver, signal-to-noise considerations, and operational characteristics of the system. An experimental injection laser communication link was set up over a 13 km range. The transmitter was located at Fort Monmouth, N.J. The path of the laser beam traversed various terrain including a wide river, parking lots, woods and suburban areas. The average height of the laser beam above the ground was approximately 25 meters and its path across the water was approximately 1 km. (Author).

Book Propagation of Intensive Laser Radiation in Clouds

Download or read book Propagation of Intensive Laser Radiation in Clouds written by O. A. Volkovit︠s︡kiĭ and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation This text deals with the interaction between intensive laser radiation and clouds and will be helpful in implementing specific laser systems operating in the real atmosphere. The fundamentals of nonlinear statistical optics of aerodisperse media are addressed for the first time in this volume. Scientists and engineers interested in the problems of laser radiation propagation in the atmosphere, as well as postgraduates and senior students specializing in nonlinear optics, laser physics, and quantum electronics, will find the expert research contained within these pages valuable.

Book Atmospheric Transmission of 1 06 Micron Laser Radiation Application to Standoff Missile Performance

Download or read book Atmospheric Transmission of 1 06 Micron Laser Radiation Application to Standoff Missile Performance written by and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model for the prediction of maximum target lock-on range for a 1.06 micron laser target designator weapon system where atmospheric attenuation of the laser radiation is the limiting system factor is derived. The laser range equation is based on the assumption of specific designator/receiver design characteristics, the assumption that the target is a Lambert surface, and the assumption of the validity of the Beer-Lambert Law for describing atmospheric propagation of laser radiation.

Book Atmospheric Transmission of Laser Radiation Computer Code LASER

Download or read book Atmospheric Transmission of Laser Radiation Computer Code LASER written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer code called LASER has been developed and documented and will be made available to interested users. LASER is a version of HITRAN which computes the monochromatic extinction coefficients for both molecular and particulate components of the atmosphere and provides results for a series of atmospheric models from sea level to 100 km in altitude. A detailed description of the calculations leading to these extinction coefficient charts is provided, and charts are provided for a number of specific laser frequencies in order to bring up to date previously published results. In addition, high spectral resolution atmospheric transmission spectra have been provided covering the regions of CO2, CO, and DF laser emission. These plotted spectra represent an up-to-date version of previously published material.

Book Laser Space Communications

Download or read book Laser Space Communications written by David G. Aviv and published by Artech House Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking resource is the first book to offer you a thorough, practical treatment of laser space communications. The book focuses on the feasibility of laser space communication links between satellites, satellites and airborne platforms, and satellites and ground based stations to achieve worldwide connectivity. You get expert guidance on weather avoidance approaches and adaptive antenna subsystems that help mitigate the effects of turbulence. The book presents simplified, yet highly accurate, engineering expressions of complex mathematics of turbulence that provide you with numerical values in the links' signal power budget. Moreover, you find an entire chapter devoted to noise photons and their effect on the bit error rate. This comprehensive volume covers a wide range of critical topics you need to understand for your work in the field, from a discussion on laser vs. RF communications in space, basic design features of a laser transceiver, and configuration of inter-satellite communication links, to selection of ground station locations, 5th Generation Internet (5-GENIN), and signal modulation schemes. The book is supported with over 70 illustrations and more than 100 equations.

Book Laser Atmospheric Propagation Kinetics

Download or read book Laser Atmospheric Propagation Kinetics written by Charles A. Brau and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The absorption of high power laser radiation by the atmosphere is important because the resultant heating of the air causes 'thermal lensing' and nonlinear distortion of the beam. The effects of kinetics manifest themselves in the form of transient, unsteady heating at the beginning of the laser pulse, and bleaching at high intensities. The vibrational and rotational kinetics of the absorption of DF and CO laser radiation have been studied and are described.
