Book Cosmic Rays in the Earth s Atmosphere and Underground

Download or read book Cosmic Rays in the Earth s Atmosphere and Underground written by Lev Dorman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-19 with total page 891 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present monograph as well as the next one (Dorman, M2005) is a result of more than 50 years working in cosmic ray (CR) research. After graduation in December 1950 Moscow Lomonosov State University (Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics Division, the Team of Theoretical Physics), my supervisor Professor D. I. Blokhintsev planned for me, as a winner of a Red Diploma, to continue my education as an aspirant (a graduate student) to prepare for Ph. D. in his very secret Object in the framework of what was in those time called the Atomic Problem. To my regret the KGB withheld permission, and I, together with other Jewish students who had graduated Nuclear Divisions of Moscow and Leningrad Universities and Institutes, were faced with a real prospect of being without any work. It was our good fortune that at that time there was being brought into being the new Cosmic Ray Project (what at that time was also very secret, but not as secret as the Atomic Problem), and after some time we were directed to work on this Project. It was organized and headed by Prof. S. N. Vernov (President of All-Union Section of Cosmic Rays) and Prof. N. V. Pushkov (Director of IZMIRAN); Prof. E. L. Feinberg headed the theoretical part of the Project.

Book Terrestrial Neutron induced Soft Errors in Advanced Memory Devices

Download or read book Terrestrial Neutron induced Soft Errors in Advanced Memory Devices written by Takashi Nakamura and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are numerous elaborate and comprehensive textbooks and guidelines on stroke. However, busy clinicians are constantly bombarded with new knowledge for an infinite number of medical conditions. It becomes a challenge for them to tease out the important information that will help guide them through the care of the patient they have right before them. This handbook is thus conceptualized with both the busy clinician and the stroke patient needing urgent treatment in mind. By providing only essential information in a standard and user-friendly layout, it assists clinicians in making real-time decisions quickly and effectively with actual step-by-step guides on specific issues relevant to the care of stroke patients. The use of this practical handbook is instinctive with the topics arranged in chronological order, simulating the actual clinical scenario from a prehospital setting, consultation in the emergency room, admission to the hospital, to secondary prevention in the clinic. With contributions from over 30 stroke experts in Southeast Asia, this handbook is widely applicable in different medical settings and will certainly appeal to stroke specialists, general practitioners, nurses, paramedics, and medical students alike.

Book Terrestrial Neutron induced Soft Error In Advanced Memory Devices

Download or read book Terrestrial Neutron induced Soft Error In Advanced Memory Devices written by Takashi Nakamura and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-03-28 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrestrial neutron-induced soft errors in semiconductor memory devices are currently a major concern in reliability issues. Understanding the mechanism and quantifying soft-error rates are primarily crucial for the design and quality assurance of semiconductor memory devices. This book covers the relevant up-to-date topics in terrestrial neutron-induced soft errors, and aims to provide succinct knowledge on neutron-induced soft errors to the readers by presenting several valuable and unique features.

Book 25th International Cosmic Ray Conference Vol 8

Download or read book 25th International Cosmic Ray Conference Vol 8 written by M S Potgieter and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-06-17 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 25th International Cosmic Ray Conference marked the golden jubilee of this series of conferences. Held under the auspices of the IUPAP Commission C4, it was hosted by the Space Research Unit of the Department of Physics of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. The proceedings present the newest developments and highlights of cosmic ray production and propagation, the extragalactic realm now being explored using neutrino and gamma ray astronomy. These fields are strongly related to high energy physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969 and it has already become one of the fundamental publications in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and neighbouring sciences. It is the most important English-language abstracting journal in the mentioned branches. ...The abstracts are classified under more than a hundred subject categories, thus permitting a quick survey of the whole extended material. The AAA is a valuable and important publication for all students and scientists working in the fields of astronomy and related sciences. As such it represents a necessary ingredient of any astronomical library all over the world." Space Science Reviews#1 "Dividing the whole field plus related subjects into 108 categories, each work is numbered and most are accompanied by brief abstracts. Fairly comprehensive cross-referencing links relevant papers to more than one category, and exhaustive author and subject indices are to be found at the back, making the catalogues easy to use. The series appears to be so complete in its coverage and always less than a year out of date that I shall certainly have to make a little more space on those shelves for future volumes." Book X and Gamma Ray Astronomy

    Book Details:
  • Author : H. Bradt
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IAU Symposium No. 55 on 'X-Ray and Gamma-Ray Astronomy' has occurred, not entirely by coincidence, at an important moment in the development of these new branches of observational astronomy. In X-ray astronomy the data from the first X-ray observatory UHURU have contributed to a new view of the X-ray sky and a new conception of the nature and properties of galactic and extragalactic X-ray sources. In gamma-ray astronomy the exciting and often controversial nature of the results underlines the importance of the forthcoming launch of SAS-B, the first orbiting y-ray observatory. As Bruno Rossi reminds us (p. I), the Symposium occurred almost exactly ten years after the first detection of the X-ray star Sco X-I. During this time we have moved from the detection of a handful of the nearest and brightest sources to the detailed study of the nature of stellar sources in the farthest reaches of our own galaxy and in external galaxies of the local group. The detection of pulsating X-ray sources in bi nary systems permits the measurement of pulsation periods, and orbital parameters with precisions comparable to any yet achieved with traditional observational techniques. The strong indications that most X-ray sources are extremely compact objects give us confidence that X-ray astronomy will playa significant and possibly decisive role in the study of stars near the end point of stellar evolution.
