Book Atlas of Airborne Fungal Spores in Europe

Download or read book Atlas of Airborne Fungal Spores in Europe written by S. Nilsson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present atlas is addressed mainly to those who, departing from different spheres of interest, are studying the dispersal of fungus spores in the air, like aero biologists, plant pathologists, medical mycologists, allergologists, or those interested in spore morphology as a taxonomic tool. The steadily increasing interest in air pollution problems has also stimulat ed investigations in the microbiological fraction of air pollutants. During the last decades the study of microbial life in the atmosphere has developed to a special branch of biological sciences - aerobiology of which the first studies are from the end of the last century. Besides pollen grains and spores of higher plants and bacteria, fungal diaspores contribute a constant and sub stantial part of the airborne microorganisms. Methods for studying airborne spores are described and critically discussed by e. g. Dimmick and Akers (1969), Ingold (1971) and Gregory (1973). The actual content of fungus spores in the air is a result of complicated processes, all of which are influ enced by external factors in different ways. The influence of the different meteorological factors on spore formation, liberation, transport and deposi tion is essentially discussed by Ingold and Gregory. There are considerable difficulties in identifying detached fungus spores visually. The taxonomy of the fungi is often based on the ontogeny of the spores which cannot be followed by examination of single spores in the air. The conidial development in Deuteromycotina and structure of conidiopho res are excellently described and illustrated by Cole and Samson (1979).

Book The Northwest European Pollen Flora

Download or read book The Northwest European Pollen Flora written by W. Punt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-05-20 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume should be seen as an extension to both the existing publications for pollen identification and traditional floras based on gross morphology. In the NEPF a pollen type provides the basis for a hierarchical construction around which the diversity of palynomorphs can be organised and interpreted. It is not a physical specimen in a herbarium, as is the type of a species name, but rather a published account comprising detailed descriptions and comprehensive illustration. In Volume VIII of "The Northwest European Pollen Flora" the following families are studied: Osmundaceae, Azollaceae, Salviniaceae, Droseraceae, Aizoaceae, Aristolochiaceae, Rhamnaceae, Vitaceae, Betulaceae (incl. Corylaceae), Myricaceae, Onagracea and Lythraceae.

Book Bioaerosols Handbook

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christopher S. Cox
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2020-11-26
  • ISBN : 1000157849
  • Pages : 644 pages

Download or read book Bioaerosols Handbook written by Christopher S. Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive handbook provides up-to-date knowledge and practical advice from established authorities in aerosol science. It covers the principles and practices of bioaerosol sampling, descriptions and comparisons of bioaerosol samplers, calibration methods, and assay techniques, with an emphasis on practicalities, such as which sampler to use and where it should be placed. The text also offers critiques concerning handling the samples to provide representative and meaningful assays for their viability, infectivity, and allergenicity. A wide range of microbes-viz., viruses, bacteria, fungi and pollens, and their fragments-are considered from such perspectives. Bioaerosols Handbook is divided into four parts, providing a wide-ranging reference work, as well as a practical guide on how best to sample and assay bioaerosols using current technology.

Book Microspores Evolution and Ontogeny

Download or read book Microspores Evolution and Ontogeny written by S. Blackmore and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-04-20 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of the processes of plant reproduction is increasingly important in the exploitation of plant resources. Microspore formation is a major event in the life cycles of land plants, allowing the transition from diploid sporophyte generation to the haploid gametophyte generation, and varies greatly between taxa in the diversity of processes involved. Despite the wealth of information available, there are very few sources which bring together the results of research work on the reproduction in all the major plant groups.**Microspores fills this gap by reviewing microsporogenesis from a systematic and evolutionary perspective in groups ranging from algae to angiosperms. Special chapters focus on structure, function, cell and molecular processes, and potential biotechnological applications of plant spores and pollen. The result is an up-to-date guide to the applications of modern techniques in the classic area of botany.**This work bridges several disciplines to provide a coherent and authoritative account which will be essential reading for research scientists and lecturers in botany, evolution, ultrastructure, reproductive and developmental biology, and palynology.

Book Pollinosis

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paolo Falagiani
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 1989-12-27
  • ISBN : 9780849364822
  • Pages : 288 pages

Download or read book Pollinosis written by Paolo Falagiani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-12-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable work explores the comprehensive topic of pollinosis in allergic diseases. The first part of this book deals with the botanical aspects of pollinosis: physiology of pollen, aerobiology in the different countries, morphological data, and pollen chemistry. The drawings and tables are a valuable key for identification of pollens and preparation of pollen calendars. The other sections deal with the medical aspects of pollinosis: immunological basis, genetics, clinical pictures, diagnostic procedures and laboratory techniques, pharmacologic therapy and immunotherapy. Both the theoretical bases and practical applications are provided regarding each topic. Of tremendous benefit is the fact that, despite the book's focus on pollinosis, most sections are useful in facing all kinds of allergological problems. This book provides a basic reference for physicians and biologists involved in the field of allergy, both at the practical and research level.

Download or read book ATMOSPHERIC WONDERS INVESTIGATING BIOAEROSOL IN DIVERGENT ZONES OF DOMBIVLI THANE DISTRICT IT S HEALTH IMPLICATIONS written by Dr. Amita Chandanshive – Dhende and published by Laxmi Book Publication. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION LITRATURE REVIEW The study of the dispersion of airborne biological materials as pollen, spores, micro- organisms or viruses. Aerobiology is branch of biology that studies organic particles, such as bacteria, fungal spores, very small insect, pollen grains and viruses, which are passively transported by the air(Spieksma, 1991) Aerobiology have traditionally been involved in the measurement and reporting of airborne pollen and fungal spores as a service to allergy sufferers(Larsson, 1993). In 2002 algae and other small water borne organisms were discovered to inhibit clouds. A large cloud has about as much water as a shallow lake of the same geographic size. Aerobiology is rapidly developing science which also involves interactions with engineering and meteorology.
