Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a summary of the historical fact I seek to highlight the decisive fact (s) causing the negative result (s) before playing the simulation through a board wargame - the actions on the “other side of the hill” (from the enemy) are studied through a parallel electronic wargame. In the simulation all the possibilities of the purpose of the study are completed when the past of history is analyzed on the basis of present theory and projected into the future or revived as a what if schematic case.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Board wargames are one of the most common forms of conflict simulation in mathematical models throughout history. They are based on a map, topographic or from a satellite photo, where a hexagonal grid (numbered) or other geometric shape is applied to regulate the positioning and movement of the parts (forces). The pieces, like those of chess, are identified by symbols, colors and numbers that register their historical qualities and quantities. Two tables are basic, the effects of geography (terrain) - associated with weather conditions - on the movements and the likely outcomes (according to the relativity of opposing powers) of the combats on the abilities of the pieces involved. The sequence of each game is divided into a set number of turns, or other names, which vary according to the time scale, and may range from minutes to years.

Book excerpt: In the simulation at the military strategic level, an approach more in line with the Persian culture of indirect strategies should perhaps have explored its maritime situation further on the outside lines by conducting direct campaigns - albeit through agents such as Sparta - only in peripheries, delaying or avoiding land actions (most decisive battles) at their centers of gravity. A scorched earth policy, as suggested by Memnon, would have served this purpose, as well as meeting the difficulties in the flow of supplies from Greece caused by the Spartan actions to be faced by Antipater.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the simulation, it will be considered whether it would have been possible for the Persians, at least, to obtain a Pyrrhic victory over the Macedonians, forcing Alexander to rethink or postpone his military strategy. To this end, in operational strategy the Persian device for approaching the battle would be more expectant, reacting to Macedonian movements as needed. In tactics, the maneuver would be that of an elastic defense, initiating actions by a light cavalry line on the riverbank - rather than the entire cavalry - acting as a covering force; in a second line, the center would be kept strong in heavy infantry, around which the light infantry and cavalry forces would make combined counterattacks of destruction and / or rampant. The decisive moment for the concentration of the maximum combat power would be in the place and in the period of performance of Alexandre himself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the principal historical assumption that the Central Alliance had better military leadership capable of innovating (technology) and maneuvering (flexible planning), based primarily on the evolution of the Prussian / German General Staff since 1806, but on the other hand, lacking a more solid political orientation, which eventually led him to assume this (inappropriate) role, the basis of the simulation of this book will be as it would have been if the German political leadership, in particular, had been better understood from the outset, perhaps provoking a shorter war and a fairer and more consolidated future peace.
Download or read book Historia Patria written by Carolyn P. Boyd and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with the restoration of the Bourbon monarchy in 1875 and ending with the death of General Francisco Franco in 1975, this book explores the intersection of education and nationalism in Spain. Based on a broad range of archival and published sources, including parliamentary and ministerial records, pedagogical treatises and journals, teachers' manuals, memoirs, and a sample of over two hundred primary and secondary school textbooks, the study examines ideological and political conflict among groups of elites seeking to shape popular understanding of national history and identity through the schools, both public and private. A burgeoning literature on European nationalisms has posited that educational systems in general, and an instrumentalized version of national history in particular, have contributed decisively to the articulation and transmission of nationalist ideologies. The Spanish case reveals a different dynamic. In Spain, a chronically weak state, a divided and largely undemocratic political class, and an increasingly polarized social and political climate impeded the construction of an effective system of national education and the emergence of a consensus on the shape and meaning of the Spanish national past. This in turn contributed to one of the most striking features of modern Spanish political and cultural life--the absence of a strong sense of Spanish, as opposed to local or regional, identity. Scholars with interests in modern European cultural politics, processes of state consolidation, nationalism, and the history of education will find this book essential reading.

Book excerpt: In the simulation, the tactical maneuver will have three phases, the first being already done, the approach; the second, ongoing, the maneuver phase, when the Periplos (double overflowing) will be attempted, ending in the third and fourth stages, continuous combat with throwing weapons, and approaches and assaults on poops. enemies. In the case of the Persians, simulated in this book, it will be considered that they will follow the classic maneuvers of the time, suffering from a lower dose of initiative and flexibility because they remained in a linear, mashed formation, which aimed, above all, at a greater control over their different fleets from subjugated peoples.

Book excerpt: The scenario of the wargame that will be used will reinforce four key factors for the campaign s success, and if the original Schlieffen Plan had been maintained, they would certainly have been thought and executed: more siege artillery for the early phase of the maneuver of attack on the Belgian forts; better preparation and use of communications; logistics with more support troops, particularly to the far right wing, and with the possibility of tapping into enemy sources of conquest; and fewer troops withdrawn to serve the Russian front.

The Hittite tactical maneuver will have two phases, the first being the destruction of the Ra Division and the conquest of the Egyptian encampment; and the second a mobile defense against the other Egyptian divisions.

Book excerpt: In the simulation it will be considered that the Greek device was unbalanced by the confusing nocturnal withdrawal, relying on the shocking action of the hoplite masses, particularly from the Spartan East Wing, to balance and / or reverse the situation the following day. The equilibrium of the Persian device will be based above all on the hold of the opposing wings by the infantry, allowing penetration through the center and subsequent overflowing of the flanks, by the cavalry and the heavy infantry (the “Immortals”).
