Book Atlantis Rising Magazine 127 January February 2018

Download or read book Atlantis Rising Magazine 127 January February 2018 written by J. Douglas Kenyon and published by Atlantis Rising LLC. This book was released on with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Issue: NASA CONCEDES: PLANET 9 PROBABLY REAL The late Zecharia Sichin, is probably cheering these days. In October, 2017, NASA publicly conceded that, in all likelihood the Solar System has a ninth planet. Sitchin's scenario of a planet Nibiru making periodic returns to Earth's neighborhood to tinker with human history, may not quite fit with NASA's view of a massive body on a vast orbital path, as yet untracked. Yet, still, many of the elements Sitchin said he had decoded from ancient Sumerian cuneiform texts seem to be present in the now favored ninth-planet theory. ARCHAEOLOGICAL SHOCKER: FIRST AMERICANS WERE HERE OVER 130 THOUSAND YEARS AGO The idea that modern humans, or even Neanderthals, could have been present in America over twelve thousand years ago has long been controversial, and discoveries which support that argument have been denied, discredited, or disregarded by conventional science. Extraordinary new findings in California, however, are making the case that more than 130 thousand years ago someone used stone tools to break the bones of mastodons. The intent, it is speculated, would have been to extract the nutritious bone marrow. According to archaeologist Steven Holen, as reported by the prestigious science website NewScientist.com, the evidence is "fairly conclusive." CANADIANS OVER 13 THOUSAND Score another point for 'mythology' over science. For thousands of years, the indigenous Heiltsuk Nation of British Columbia has relayed an oral tradition from generation to generation that its ancestors escaped the harsh conditions of the Ice Age on a temperate island off the coast of Canada. Now archaeologists, once convinced that no humans were in North America before 12,000 years ago, are facing powerful new evidence that the Heiltsuk may have been right all along. TASMANIAN TIGERS STILL AROUND? While public debate over the existence of bigfoot rages on (see Todd Prescott's article on page 32 in this issue), another species declared extinct by the powers that be, is making signs of reappearing. CYBORG EYES In the 1984 movie, The Terminator, a Cyborg--a being with both organic and biomechatronic body parts--from the future, played by Arnold Swartzenegger, searches for the mother of a yet-to-be-born hero who will be a scourge to the robots who rule that world to come. It was all science fiction, of course, but the memorable artificial eyes of the 'Terminator' could turn out to be more fact than fiction. IS CHINA MAKING 'IMPOSSIBLE' SPACE DRIVE? In the race to develop the EM Drive, China may have moved ahead of the U.S. The mysterious--and, some would say, 'impossible'--space drive technology successfully tested recently by NASA, has been converted by Chinese scientists into a working prototype. That, at least, is the claim of the Chinese propaganda ministry. AMERICANS BELIEVE IN ADVANCED ANCIENT CIVILIZATION For anyone wondering how a magazine like Atlantis Rising could even exist, the answer may be found in a new survey from Chapman University. In an October 2017 poll on 'Paranormal Beliefs' Chapman found that 55% of the public "agree" or "strongly agree" with the statement: "Ancient, advanced civilizations, such as Atlantis, once existed." ALTERNATIVE SCIENCE GLOBAL WEIRDING Catastrophic Weather & 'Global Warming' BY SUSAN B.MARTINEZ, Ph.D. Here in Georgia the lights went out on September 11 when Hurricane Irma came roaring through. Not only were they back-to-back storms (Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria, etc.), but in those same terrifying weeks, Mexico was hit with three mighty earthquakes. All too predictably, the hurricanes were blamed on global warming. But could they also blame the quakes on warming? They've tried. ANCIENT MYSTERIES ATLANTIS THE RELIGIOUS Do We Know What the Natives Believed? BY FRANK JOSEPH Atlantis Rising readers have learned much over the last twenty-three years about the geological fate and checkered history of the sunken civilization from which our magazine derives its name. But no less significant were less-appreciated religious convictions that, it is said, characterized the lost kingdom, because they not only survived its destruction but were carried by its survivors to the outside world, where they influenced the belief systems of post-deluge cultures, even to the present day. ANCIENT WISDOM EGYPTIAN MYSTERIES & TURIN'S GOLDEN RULE The Ancient Geometers Were Far Ahead of Their Time, and of Ours BY THOMAS DIETRICH An obscure Egyptian artifact in the Egyptian museum of Turin Italy provides remarkable evidence that the builders of the Great Pyramid, whoever they were, possessed deep insight into the meaning of the Golden Rule. PUBLISHER'S LETTER BY J. DOUGLAS KENYON RECLAIMING THE LOST SECRETS OF A GODDESS In Atlantis Rising #124 (July/August, 2017), author Steven Sora made the point that the 'myth' of Hercules was probably based on some real person who made his heroic mark before the dawn of recorded history as we know it. Steve described a number of elements in the Hercules story that seem to imply it has a factual basis. Homer's tale of Ulysses, for example, has been connected to the 'twelve labors of Hercules.' Both stories feature special links to the stars, suggesting that, in some forgotten civilization from before the end of the Ice Age--Atlantis perhaps--both heroes might have been the same person.

Book Bourbon Street

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard Campanella
  • Publisher : LSU Press
  • Release : 2014-03-05
  • ISBN : 0807155063
  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Bourbon Street written by Richard Campanella and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Orleans is a city of many storied streets, but only one conjures up as much unbridled passion as it does fervent hatred, simultaneously polarizing the public while drawing millions of visitors a year. A fascinating investigation into the mile-long urban space that is Bourbon Street, Richard Campanella’s comprehensive cultural history spans from the street’s inception during the colonial period through three tumultuous centuries, arriving at the world-famous entertainment strip of today. Clearly written and carefully researched, Campanella’s book interweaves world events—from the Louisiana Purchase to World War II to Hurricane Katrina—with local and national characters, ranging from presidents to showgirls, to explain how Bourbon Street became an intriguing and singular artifact, uniquely informative of both New Orleans’s history and American society. While offering a captivating historical-geographical panorama of Bourbon Street, Campanella also presents a contemporary microview of the area, describing the population, architecture, and local economy, and shows how Bourbon Street operates on a typical night. The fate of these few blocks in the French Quarter is played out on a larger stage, however, as the internationally recognized brands that Bourbon Street merchants and the city of New Orleans strive to promote both clash with and complement each other. An epic narrative detailing the influence of politics, money, race, sex, organized crime, and tourism, Bourbon Street: A History ultimately demonstrates that one of the most well-known addresses in North America is more than the epicenter of Mardi Gras; it serves as a battleground for a fundamental dispute over cultural authenticity and commodification.

Book The Forbidden Archeologist

Download or read book The Forbidden Archeologist written by Michael A. Cremo and published by Torchlight Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Cremo, an international authority on human antiquity, has justly earned the 'forbidden archeologist' title. For over twenty-seven years he's been 'digging up' documented, credible findings that mainstream archeologists don't want you to know about - discoveries in the fossil record that tell a completely different story from Darwinian evolution. His latest book, The Forbidden Archeologist (Torchlight Publishing A2010), presents his research at international scientific conferences, comments on the latest discoveries and 'missing links', examines famous archeological sites such as the Sterkfontein Caves - the alleged Cradle of Humanity, and responds to mixed reactions to his books, now translated into 26 languages. This collection of forty-nine articles published in Atlantis Rising magazine is like the Cliff Notes on his best selling, encyclopedic Forbidden Archeology and formidable Human Devolution. Readers will quickly understand the strongest arguments and remarkable discoveries that reveal evolution as a failing theory.

Book Origins of the Sphinx

Download or read book Origins of the Sphinx written by Robert M. Schoch and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New research and evidence that the Sphinx is thousands of years older than previously thought • Contrasts what Egyptologists claim about the Sphinx with historical accounts and new research including reanalysis of seismic studies and updates to Schoch’s water weathering research and Bauval’s Orion Correlation Theory • Examines how the Sphinx is contemporaneous with Göbekli Tepe, aligned with the constellation Leo, and was recarved during the Old Kingdom era of Egypt • Reveals that the Sphinx was built during the actual historical Golden Age of ancient Egypt, the period known in legend as Zep Tepi No other monument in the world evokes mystery like the Great Sphinx of Giza. It has survived the harsh climate of Egypt for thousands of years and will remain long after our own civilization is gone. According to orthodox Egyptology, the Sphinx was built around 2500 BCE as a memorial to the pharaoh Khafre. Yet this “fact” has scant to no supportive evidence. When was the Sphinx really built and, most importantly, why? In this provocative collaboration from two Egyptology outsiders, Robert M. Schoch, Ph.D., and Robert Bauval combine their decades of research to show how the Sphinx is thousands of years older than the conventional Egyptological timeline and was built by a long forgotten pre-Pharaonic civilization. They examine the known history of the Sphinx, contrasting what Egyptologists claim with prominent historical accounts and new research, including updates to Schoch’s geological water weathering research and reanalysis of seismic studies. Building on Bauval’s Orion Correlation Theory, they investigate the archaeoastronomical alignments of the monuments of the Giza Plateau and reveal how the pyramids and Sphinx were built to align with the constellations of Orion and Leo. Analyzing the evidence for a significantly older construction phase at Giza and the restoration and recarving of the Sphinx during the Old Kingdom era, they assert that the Sphinx was first built by an advanced pre-Pharaonic civilization that existed circa 12,000 years ago on the Giza Plateau, contemporaneous with the sophisticated Göbekli Tepe complex. The authors examine how the monuments at Giza memorialize Zep Tepi, the Golden Age of legend shown here to be an actual historical time period from roughly 10,500 BCE through 9700 BCE. Moving us closer to an understanding of the true age and purpose of the Great Sphinx, Schoch and Bauval provide evidence of an early high civilization witnessed by the Great Sphinx before the end of the last ice age.

Book Interrogating Modernity

Download or read book Interrogating Modernity written by Agata Bielik-Robson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-17 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interrogating Modernity returns to Hans Blumenberg's epochal The Legitimacy of the Modern Age as a springboard to interrogate questions of modernity, secularisation, technology and political legitimacy in the fields of political theology, history of ideas, political theory, art theory, history of philosophy, theology and sociology. That is, the twelve essays in this volume return to Blumenberg's work to think once more about how and why we should value the modern. Written by a group of leading international and interdisciplinary researchers, this series of responses to the question of the modern put Blumenberg into dialogue with other twentieth, and twenty-first century theorists, such as Arendt, Bloch, Derrida, Husserl, Jonas, Latour, Voegelin, Weber and many more. The result is a repositioning of his work at the heart of contemporary attempts to make sense of who we are and how we’ve got here.

Book Technobiophilia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sue Thomas
  • Publisher : A&C Black
  • Release : 2013-09-26
  • ISBN : 1849662169
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Technobiophilia written by Sue Thomas and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-09-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are there so many nature metaphors - clouds, rivers, streams, viruses, and bugs - in the language of the internet? Why do we adorn our screens with exotic images of forests, waterfalls, animals and beaches? In Technobiophilia: Nature and Cyberspace, Sue Thomas interrogates the prevalence online of nature-derived metaphors and imagery and comes to a surprising conclusion. The root of this trend, she believes, lies in biophilia, defined by biologist E.O. Wilson as 'the innate attraction to life and lifelike processes'. In this wide-ranging transdisciplinary study she explores the strong thread of biophilia which runs through our online lives, a phenomenon she calls 'technobiophilia', or, the 'innate attraction to life and lifelike processes as they appear in technology'. The restorative qualities of biophilia can alleviate mental fatigue and enhance our capacity for directed attention, soothing our connected minds and easing our relationship with computers. Technobiophilia: Nature and Cyberspace offers new insights on what is commonly known as 'work-life balance'. It explores ways to make our peace with technology-induced anxiety and achieve a 'tech-nature balance' through practical experiments designed to enhance our digital lives indoors, outdoors, and online. The book draws on a long history of literature on nature and technology and breaks new ground as the first to link the two. Its accessible style will attract the general reader, whilst the clear definition of key terms and concepts throughout should appeal to undergraduates and postgraduates of new media and communication studies, internet studies, environmental psychology, and human-computer interaction. www.technobiophilia.com

Book A Christian s Guide through the Gender Revolution

Download or read book A Christian s Guide through the Gender Revolution written by Vincent E. Gil and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary questions about gender challenge our views of ourselves and the proverbial other. In this meticulously researched, well-written, and illuminating guide, Vincent Gil unpacks elements involved in gender-identity conflicts and intersexuality. At the heart of the matter are real people, not just issues. Drawing on histories culled from his many years as counselor, professor, and researcher, Gil explores gender and identity, issues of conflict, and of reconciliation. He distinguishes biological and psychological elements from social issues, and addresses the current movement of gender individuation, its language idioms, and its influences on gender ideology and theology. He also provides an engaging theological discourse, filling gaps in our understanding of procreation to better inform our theology of being. The work assists Christian parents, clergy, and lay leaders by working through the tough questions. It suggests means to engage, counsel, support, and reconcile with those gender-questioning or conflicted, be they children, adolescents, or adults.
