Book excerpt: The Tabusintac River in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, has an Atlantic salmon run that consists of both early & late run components. Late-run fish are exploited for food by the Esgenoopetitj First Nation and there is also a recreational fishery on the river. This report begins with a description of the fisheries on the Tabusintac River, then reviews stock assessment activities including angler surveys & mark-recapture studies. Results are presented from estimates of stock parameters in 1996 & 1998, and stock assessment results from those two years are discussed with regard to total returns, spawning escapement, and the conservation requirement. The final sections discuss ecological & management considerations and the prospects for the stock.
