Book Atlantic Cod Gadus Morhua and Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar Immune Responses Against Aeromonas Salmonicida Subsp Salmonicida Infection

Download or read book Atlantic Cod Gadus Morhua and Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar Immune Responses Against Aeromonas Salmonicida Subsp Salmonicida Infection written by Manuel A. Soto Dávila and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlantic cod and Atlantic salmon are among the main species of the Canadian fisheries and aquaculture industries. Populations of both fish species are exposed to different pathogens such as bacteria that cause infectious diseases. Vibrio anguillarum, Francisella noatunensis, Renibacterium salmoninarum, and Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida are the most frequent bacteria that infect Atlantic cod and Atlantic salmon. Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida, is one of the oldest known fish pathogens and the causative agent of furunculosis in marine and freshwater fish. This Gram-negative pathogen is having a negative impact on fish health, especially in emergent marine aquaculture in Canada. A. salmonicida is also an excellent bacterial model to study fish host-pathogen interactions and assist with analyzing compounds that can be useful to stimulate the immunity of the fish. Here, I evaluate the effect of A. salmonicida on the innate immune response of Atlantic cod and Atlantic salmon primary macrophages utilizing microbiological and molecular biology tools. Additionally, I determine the effect of vitamin D2 and D3 as potential immunostimulants against the bacterial infection caused by A. salmonicida in Atlantic salmon.

Download or read book Bacterial Fish Pathogens written by Brian Austin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book puts emphasis on the isolation, taxonomy, diagnosis (phenotypic, serology and molecular biology), epizootiology, pathogenicity mechanisms, and methods of disease control (by vaccination, immunostimulation, probiotics, prebiotics, plant products, and antimicrobial compounds. Co-infections, which are attributed to more than one microbial species have been discussed. Shortcomings in knowledge have been highlighted. This sixth edition is the successor to the original version, first published in 1987, and which fills the need for an up-to-date comprehensive text on the biological aspects of the bacterial taxa which cause disease in finfish. The book is primarily targeted at researcher workers, including postgraduate students, and diagnosticians. It is anticipated that the readership will include veterinary microbiologists, public health scientists and microbial ecologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition fills the need for an up-to-date comprehensive book on the biological aspects of the bacterial taxa which cause disease in fish. Since the 3rd edition was published in 1999, much has changed in the control of disease of farmed and wild fish. This book analyses all the new information, including that on new pathogens and new developments on long established diseases, such as furunculosis and vibriosis. Consideration is given to all of the bacterial taxa which have at some time been reported as fish pathogens, whether they are secondary invaders of already damaged tissue or serious, primary pathogens.

Book Infectious Disease in Aquaculture

Download or read book Infectious Disease in Aquaculture written by B Austin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With an ever increasing demand for seafood that cannot be met by capture fisheries alone, growing pressure is being placed on aquaculture production. However, infectious diseases are a major constraint. Infectious disease in aquaculture: prevention and control brings together a wealth of recent research on this problem and its effective management.Part one considers the innate and adaptive immune responses seen in fish and shellfish together with the implications of these responses for disease control. The specific immune response of molluscs and crustaceans is considered in depth, along with the role of stress in resistance to infection. Advances in disease diagnostics, veterinary drugs and vaccines are discussed in part two, with quality assurance, the use and effects of antibiotics and anti-parasitic drugs in aquaculture, and developments in vaccination against fish are explored. Part three focuses on the development of specific pathogen-free populations and novel approaches for disease control. Specific pathogen free shrimp stocks, developments in genomics and the use of bacteria and bacteriophages as biological agents for disease control are explored, before the management and use of natural antimicrobial compounds. With its distinguished editor and expert team of contributors, Infectious disease in aquaculture: prevention and control provides managers of aquaculture facilities and scientists working on disease in aquaculture with a comprehensive and systematic overview of essential research in the prevention and control of infectious disease. - Collates a wealth of recent research on infectious disease and its effective management in aquaculture production - Considers the innate and adaptive immune responses seen in fish and shelfish and the implications for disease control - Discusses advances in disease diagnostics, veterinary drugs and vaccines

Book Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar

Download or read book Atlantic Salmon Salmo Salar written by Florence T. Wright and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North American stocks of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) have been declining. One measure being employed to reverse that trend is increased hatchery production. As with husbandry of other animals, intensive rearing is usually associated with higher than normal health risks. Research on diseases of Atlantic salmon can help prevent, reduce, or otherwise control mortality due to problem parasites, infections, and other diseases. For planning of research as well as for diagnostic work, health management, and husbandry, published information on diseases of the Atlantic salmon must be readily available. Inasmuch as the literature is widely scattered, the purpose of this work is to compile a bibliography from international sources on the diseases (detection, diagnosis, identification, and control) of Atlantic salmon. Most of the references are arranged alphabetically by author, either have been annotated by the staff of the Eastern Fish Disease Laboratory, or are abstracts by the author.
