Book excerpt: In "Atheism Kills", Barak Lurie exposes the horrors of a world without God. Contrary to the mantra we've heard time and time again that religion is responsible for more deaths than anything else, it is in fact the absence of God which has killed-in obscene numbers. Ever since atheism first assumed government control in the French Revolution, it has done nothing but kill. Atheism has killed through its many deputies: progressivism, eugenics, fascism, and communism. Lurie shows that it was the godlessness in each of these ideologies that killed hundreds of millions. But atheism doesn't just kill lives. It kills purpose, free will, beauty, compassion, a sense of the past and future, creativity, and freedom itself. Atheism offers only the horrors of chaos and totalitarianism. The world misplaces its focus on Radical Islam as the greatest threat to civilization. As horrible as it is, it is doing nothing and having no sense of self which are the true enemies. It was our will to fight and sense of mission that overcame fascism and communism. We must have these to keep Radical Islam at bay, too. This is why we must resist the growth of atheism. It was God that gave us our freedom. It was God who gave our sense of purpose that created civilization. Take those away, and there is nothing to fight for. In this way, Lurie shows that the lack of belief in God is our greatest danger. How does he know? Because like a hurricane, godlessness has only known how to destroy everything in its path. It has never created. Like there will always be fires, there will always be enemies that seek to destroy our civilization. But if we don't have fire stations with crew, and protocol in each city to deal with fires, those fires will consume us. Likewise, how we prepare ourselves to deal with horrific ideologies will be what saves us. That preparation can only come with our embrace of the centrality of God.

Book excerpt: Atheism Destroys is the second installment of Barak Lurie's Atheism Kills series. Whereas Atheism Kills focused primarily on how a world without God has led to horrific mass killings and other brutalities, Atheism Destroys focuses on how godlessness destroys our most treasured institutions and values: free speech, family, relationships, and even courage. Lurie shows how godlessness has been the primary destroyer of many of our liberties. He also shows how godlessness is the root of and primary force enabling drug cartels, the mafia, sex-trafficking, and psychopaths. With insight, stories, and humor, Lurie treats atheism as a destructive force in and of itself --one which we dare not tread lightly and which we must resist like any other enemy at the gate. Godlessness weakens us both individually and as a society, enabling evil to penetrate more easily. While many atheists proclaim atheism is merely a non-belief in God, Lurie shows that atheism is in fact an ideology which leads to disastrous consequences -- much like not believing in gravity, not enforcing laws, or not driving on the right side of the road. Lurie demonstrates that we have no choice but to fight godlessness, and to recognize that without God, we lose all that we value in civilization. Indeed, without God, civilization as we know it will collapse. From all this, Lurie delivers great news: We have the answer. With God in our lives, we can guard against and ultimately defeat virtually all of our modern-day social ills -- from mass shootings to sexual abuse to the breakdown of the family. He shows how easy it is to do this in our own individual lives, and as a society. Only with God can we shore up our house against all destroyers -- from outside and from within.

Book The Death of Ignorant Atheism

Download or read book The Death of Ignorant Atheism written by James Duncan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-11 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two forms of atheism, not just one, and in the death of ignorant atheism, James Duncan shows how important it is for both believers and non-believers to understand the difference between the two. The book addresses and debunks the common objections raised by modern atheists against the existence of the creator, and convincingly demonstrates how atheism is just empty fiction that exists within western society due to wide spread ignorance, and that most professing atheists would renounce the idea if they were truly aware of its self-contradictory and illogical nature. This book exposes modern atheism for what it really is.

Book Is Atheism Dead

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eric Metaxas
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2021-10-19
  • ISBN : 1684512093

Download or read book Is Atheism Dead written by Eric Metaxas and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Atheism Dead? is an entertaining, impressively wide-ranging, and decidedly provocative answer to that famous 1966 TIME cover that itself provocatively asked “Is God Dead?” In a voice that is by turns witty, muscular, and poetic, Metaxas intentionally echoes C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton in cheerfully and logically making his astonishing case, along the way presenting breathtaking—and often withering—new evidence and arguments against the idea of a Creatorless universe. Taken all together, he shows atheism not merely to be implausible and intellectually sloppy, but now demonstrably ridiculous. Perhaps the only unanswered question on the subject is why we couldn’t see this sooner, and how embarrassed we should be about it.

Book The Twilight of Atheism

Download or read book The Twilight of Atheism written by Alister McGrath and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this bold and provocative new book, the author of In the Beginning and The Reenchantment of Nature challenges the widely held assumption that the world is becoming more secular and demonstrates why atheism cannot provide the moral and intellectual guidance essential for coping with the complexities of modern life. Atheism is one of the most important movements in modern Western culture. For the last two hundred years, it seemed to be on the verge of eliminating religion as an outmoded and dangerous superstition. Recent years, however, have witnessed the decline of disbelief and a rise in religious devotion throughout the world. In THE TWILIGHT OF ATHEISM, the distinguished historian and theologian Alister McGrath examines what went wrong with the atheist dream and explains why religion and faith are destined to play a central role in the twenty-first century. A former atheist who is now one of Christianity’s foremost scholars, McGrath traces the history of atheism from its emergence in eighteenth-century Europe as a revolutionary worldview that offered liberation from the rigidity of traditional religion and the oppression of tyrannical monarchs, to its golden age in the first half of the twentieth century. Blending thoughtful, authoritative historical analysis with incisive portraits of such leading and influential atheists as Sigmund Freud and Richard Dawkins, McGrath exposes the flaws at the heart of atheism, and argues that the renewal of faith is a natural, inevitable, and necessary response to its failures. THE TWILIGHT OF ATHEISM will unsettle believers and nonbelievers alike. A powerful rebuttal of the philosophy that, for better and for worse, has exerted tremendous influence on Western history, it carries major implications for the future of both religion and unbelief in our society.

Book The New Atheism

  • Author : Victor J. Stenger

Download or read book The New Atheism written by Victor J. Stenger and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2009-12-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years a number of bestselling books have forcefully argued that belief in God can no longer be defended on rational or empirical grounds, and that the scientific worldview has rendered obsolete the traditional beliefs held by Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The authors of these books—Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, and Victor J. Stenger—have come to be known as the "New Atheists." Predictably, their works have been controversial and attracted a good deal of critical reaction. In this new book, Victor J. Stenger, whose God: The Failed Hypothesis was on the New York Times bestseller list in 2007, reviews and expands upon the principles of New Atheism and answers many of its critics. He demonstrates in detail that naturalism—the view that all of reality is reducible to matter and nothing else—is sufficient to explain everything we observe in the universe, from the most distant galaxies to the inner workings of the brain that result in the phenomenon of mind. Stenger disputes the claim of many critics that the question of whether God exists is beyond the ken of science. On the contrary, he argues that absence of evidence for God is, indeed, evidence of absence when the evidence should be there and is not. Turning from scientific to historical evidence, Stenger then points out the many examples of evil perpetrated in the name of religion. He also notes that the Bible, which is still taken to be divine revelation by millions, fails as a basis for morality and is unable to account for the problem of unnecessary suffering throughout the world. Finally, he discusses the teachings of ancient nontheist sages such as Buddha, Lao Tzu, and Confucius, whose guidelines for coping with the problems of life and death did not depend upon a supernatural metaphysics. Stenger argues that this "way of nature" is far superior to the traditional supernatural monotheisms, which history shows can lead to a host of evils. The New Atheism is a well-argued defense of the atheist position and a strong rebuttal of its critics.

Book Atheism And The Case Against Christ

Download or read book Atheism And The Case Against Christ written by Matthew S. Mccormick and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hundreds of millions of people believe that Jesus came back from the dead. This cogent, forcefully argued book presents a decidedly unpopular view —namely, that the central tenet of Christianity, the resurrection of Jesus, is false. The author asks a number of probing questions: Is the evidence about Jesus as it has been relayed to us over the centuries of sufficient quantity and quality to justify belief in the resurrection? How can we accept the resurrection but reject magic at the Salem witch trials? What light does contemporary research about human rationality from the fields of behavioral economics, empirical psychology, cognitive science, and philosophy shed on the resurrection and religious belief? Can we use contemporary research about the reliability of people’s beliefs in the supernatural, miracles, and the paranormal to shed light on the origins of Christianity and other religions? Does it make sense that the all-powerful creator of the universe would employ miracles to achieve his ends? Can a Christian believe by faith alone and yet reasonably deny the supernatural claims of other religions? Do the arguments against Christianity support atheism? By carefully answering each of these questions, this book undermines Christianity and theism at their foundations; it gives us a powerful model for better critical reasoning; and it builds a compelling case for atheism. Without stooping to condescension or arrogance, the author offers persuasive arguments that are accessible, thoughtful, and new.

Book Jesus Is the Way Truth Life

Download or read book Jesus Is the Way Truth Life written by Michael Pietrzyk and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you cannot comfortably say with confidence that Jesus died for your sins and opens the door of salvation for you or that you deny Jesus, then this book is for you. So many Christians take Jesus for granted, and so many people do not understand His torment and the suffering He endured for us. We began a spiritual journey when we enter this world. We have a natural body and a world full of responsibilities to challenge us on our journey. We are influenced by many outside sources and personal interactions with our family members and friends. Ultimately, we make the most important decision of our life. Do we believe in God and accept Jesus as our Savior, or do we reject God and accept atheism? When you analyze the facts of the life of Jesus, his loving teachings, his horrible suffering, death and miraculous resurrection, you come to understand He did it for you. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. His teaching brings light into your life. Jesus is the gateway to eternal happiness when we leave this world. Atheism with its evil influence wants to drag you down and have you reject God. Atheists are in total denial about God, Jesus, supernatural experiences, something from nothing, and the wisdom in the formation of this universe and mankind. Atheists want you to believe you will simply rot in the ground and accept life with no future hope. If you are an atheist, don't laugh at this thought and concern. As a Christian, I care for you and your soul. That is certainly more than what the atheistic thinking has in mind for you. Atheism, under the influence of Satan, offers you nothing but the door way to eternal conscious separation from God. This book is a direct challenge to the thoughts and beliefs of the atheist. I wrote this book with the hope it just might stir the mind of a non-believer. Then believing the Holy Spirit will do the rest.

He sets out to dispel the myths surrounding atheism and to show how it can be both a meaningful and moral choice. He directly confronts the failure of officially atheist states in the twentieth century, and presents an intellectual case for atheism that rests as much on reasoned and positive arguments for its truth as on negative arguments against religion.

With instructive clarity, Dr. Louis Markos confronts the modern-day atheists' claims that new evidence disproves the existence of God. Stand in confidence that the trial of public opinion versus universal truth has already been held—and God is the victor.

Book There is No God

  • Author : David Williamson
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield

  • ISBN : 1442218495
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book There is No God written by David Williamson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There Is No God: Atheists in America answers several questions pertaining to how the atheist population has grown from relatively small numbers to have a disproportionately large impact on important issues of our day, such as the separation of church and state, abortion, gay marriage, and public school curricula. Williamson and Yancey answer the common questions surrounding atheism. Just how common is the dismissal and derision of religion expressed by atheists? How are we to understand the world view of atheists and their motivations in political action and public discourse? Finally, is there any hope for rapprochement in the relationship of atheism and theism? In There Is No God, the authors begin with a brief history of atheism to set the stage for a better understanding of contemporary American atheism. They then explore how the relationship between religious and atheistic ideologies has evolved as each attempted to discredit the other in different ways at different times and under very different social and political circumstances. Although atheists are a relatively small minority, atheists appear to be growing in number and in their willingness to be identified as atheists and to voice their non-belief. As those voices of atheism increase it is essential that we understand how and why those who are defined by such a simple term as "non-believers in the existence of God" should have such social and political influence. The authors successfully answer the broader question of the apparent polarization of the religious and non-religious dimensions of American society.

Book Atheism All That Matters

Download or read book Atheism All That Matters written by Dylan Evans and published by John Murray. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are more and more people believing that there is no god? It sometimes feels that much of the western world is now post-religious. But now the initial charge of Richard Dawkins and the new atheists has past, what does atheism really mean? That is the question that Dylan Evans addresses in this thoughtful and engaging atheist manifesto. Discover what values atheists share with believers. Explore how can a belief that something doesn't exist can still be a belief. And find out whether modern atheism is new or just a new form of an old system of values. Building on the work of atheist philosophers and psychologists, Dylan Evans shows how the history of atheist thought has developed and offers fresh ideas for how life has meaning from an atheist perspective.
