Book Alberta s Lower Athabasca Basin

Download or read book Alberta s Lower Athabasca Basin written by Brian M. Ronaghan and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-24 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, the oil sands region of northeastern Alberta has been the site of unprecedented levels of development. Alberta's Lower Athabasca Basin tells a fascinating story of how a catastrophic ice age flood left behind a unique landscape in the Lower Athabasca Basin, one that made deposits of bitumen available for surface mining. Less well known is the discovery that this flood also produced an environment that supported perhaps the most intensive use of boreal forest resources by prehistoric Native people yet recognized in Canada. Studies undertaken to meet the conservation requirements of the Alberta Historical Resources Act have yielded a rich and varied record of prehistoric habitation and activity in the oil sands area. Evidence from between 9,500 and 5,000 years ago—the result of several major excavations—has confirmed extensive human use of the region’s resources, while important contextual information provided by key geological and palaeoenvironmental studies has deepened our understanding of how the region’s early inhabitants interacted with the landscape. Touching on various elements of this rich environmental and archaeological record, the contributors to this volume use the evidence gained through research and compliance studies to offer new insights into human and natural history. They also examine the challenges of managing this irreplaceable heritage resource in the face of ongoing development. Contributors: Alwynne Beaudoin, Angela Younie, Brian O.K. Reeves, Duane Froese, Elizabeth Roberston, Eugene Gryba, Gloria Fedirchuk, Grant Clarke, John W. Ives, Janet Blakey, Jennifer Tischer, Jim Burns, Laura Roskowski, Luc Bouchet, Murray Lobb, Nancy Saxberg, Raymond LeBlanc, Robert R. Young, Robin Woywitka, Thomas V. Lowell, and Timothy Fisher

Book Progress Report of EXTECH IV Seismic Investigations in the Athabasca Basin Saskatchewan Alberta

Download or read book Progress Report of EXTECH IV Seismic Investigations in the Athabasca Basin Saskatchewan Alberta written by Don J. White and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EXTECH-IV is a multidisciplinary study designed to improve the geoscience framework and develop exploration technology for unconformity-type uranium deposits of the Athabasca Basin. This paper reports on the seismic reflection & auxiliary downhole seismic surveys conducted within the McArthur River mining camp, Saskatchewan, as part of the study. It describes the acquisition of the seismic data sets, the objectives of each of the surveys, and some preliminary results for the two-dimensional high-resolution survey and the high-frequency vertical seismic profile.

Book Geology of the Athabasca Group in Alberta

Download or read book Geology of the Athabasca Group in Alberta written by J. A. Wilson and published by Edmonton, Alta., Canada : Geological Survey Department, Alberta Research Council. This book was released on 1985 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Study undertaken in response to uranium exploration activity in Alberta following the discovery of several uranium deposits in the Athabasca Basin of Saskatchewan. Research was performed on the Athabasca Group rocks between 1980 and 1982, establishing the stratigraphy and its relation to that of the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, and the sedimentology. Petrographic study of the stratigraphic succession indicated the sequence of diagenetic events and related them to fluid flow and mineral transport within the sandstones.

Book Metallic Resources 2

Download or read book Metallic Resources 2 written by Sophie Decrée and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic resources play a huge role in many fields: in the energy transition, the development of new technologies and the production and storage of green energy. Metallic Resources 2 presents various studies in notable metallogenic regions or deposits worldwide that enable us to tackle the question of the concentration of metals, especially strategic metals, in various geodynamic settings. An understanding of the geological processes that lead to the formation of deposits and influence their concentrations in the Earth's crust is of the utmost importance when it comes to uncovering new mineral resources. This book puts forward various different methodological approaches necessary in the study of deposits of metallic resources, from field observations to microanalysis. A study of specific geo-politico-economic frameworks is also presented.

Book Treatise on Geochemistry

Download or read book Treatise on Geochemistry written by and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-19 with total page 14787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extensively updated new edition of the widely acclaimed Treatise on Geochemistry has increased its coverage beyond the wide range of geochemical subject areas in the first edition, with five new volumes which include: the history of the atmosphere, geochemistry of mineral deposits, archaeology and anthropology, organic geochemistry and analytical geochemistry. In addition, the original Volume 1 on "Meteorites, Comets, and Planets" was expanded into two separate volumes dealing with meteorites and planets, respectively. These additions increased the number of volumes in the Treatise from 9 to 15 with the index/appendices volume remaining as the last volume (Volume 16). Each of the original volumes was scrutinized by the appropriate volume editors, with respect to necessary revisions as well as additions and deletions. As a result, 27% were republished without major changes, 66% were revised and 126 new chapters were added. In a many-faceted field such as Geochemistry, explaining and understanding how one sub-field relates to another is key. Instructors will find the complete overviews with extensive cross-referencing useful additions to their course packs and students will benefit from the contextual organization of the subject matter Six new volumes added and 66% updated from 1st edition. The Editors of this work have taken every measure to include the many suggestions received from readers and ensure comprehensiveness of coverage and added value in this 2nd edition The esteemed Board of Volume Editors and Editors-in-Chief worked cohesively to ensure a uniform and consistent approach to the content, which is an amazing accomplishment for a 15-volume work (16 volumes including index volume)!
