Book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Shock Waves Proceedings Of The 20th International Symposium In 2 Volumes written by Hans G Hornung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-01-22 with total page 1740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposia take place every two years. They are the forum at which scientists concerned with shock waves present their research. They USE shock waves for chemical kinetics studies, for materials studies, and smashing kidney stones; they STUDY the phenomena associated with flows involving shock waves, such as supersonic flow, explosions, detonations, volcanic eruptions, and, in this symposium, even such with-it topics as impact of Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter and blast waves in the World Trade Center. They also discover new, bigger and better ways of generating flows at hypervelocity speeds and develop their technological tools further. The international exchange of information is documented in the proceedings volumes, which have become a storehouse of information on the subject, documenting the history of this peculiar branch of science that involves chemists, physicists, engineers, geophysicists, material scientists and biologists.

Book excerpt: After a childhood as unpredictable as the flip of a coin, Faith Sterling has finally found her comfort zone in the kitchen of an upscale Manhattan restaurant. A workaholic chef, at least there she's in control. So when her free-spirited and often-gullible mother, Connie, calls to announce that she's won a bed-and-breakfast on the Jersey Shore, Faith's patience boils over. Convinced the contest is a scam, she rushes to Wave's End to stop Connie from trading her steady job for an uncertain future. When a hurricane ravages the coast, Faith is torn between supporting the shore rescue and bailing out her beleaguered boss. But the storm dredges up deceptions and emotional debris that threaten to destroy the inn's future and her fragile bonds with her mother. As the women struggle to salvage both the inn and their relationship, Faith begins to see herself and Connie in a new light--and to realize that some moments are better left to chance.

  • Pages : 369 pages

Download or read book In the Waves written by Rachel Lance and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of "The Most Fascinating Books WIRED Read in 2020" "One part science book, one part historical narrative, one part memoir . . . harrowing and inspiring.”—The Wall Street Journal How a determined scientist cracked the case of the first successful—and disastrous—submarine attack On the night of February 17, 1864, the tiny Confederate submarine HL Hunley made its way toward the USS Housatonic just outside Charleston harbor. Within a matter of hours, the Union ship’s stern was blown open in a spray of wood planks. The explosion sank the ship, killing many of its crew. And the submarine, the first ever to be successful in combat, disappeared without a trace. For 131 years the eight-man crew of the HL Hunley lay in their watery graves, undiscovered. When finally raised, the narrow metal vessel revealed a puzzling sight. There was no indication the blast had breached the hull, and all eight men were still seated at their stations—frozen in time after more than a century. Why did it sink? Why did the men die? Archaeologists and conservationists have been studying the boat and the remains for years, and now one woman has the answers. In the Waves is much more than just a military perspective or a technical account. It’s also the story of Rachel Lance’s single-minded obsession spanning three years, the story of the extreme highs and lows in her quest to find all the puzzle pieces of the Hunley. Balancing a gripping historical tale and original research with a personal story of professional and private obstacles, In the Waves is an enthralling look at a unique part of the Civil War and the lengths one scientist will go to uncover its secrets.

Book The Mysterious Waves Of Living Cells

Download or read book The Mysterious Waves Of Living Cells written by Hubert Rudakemwa and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Rudakemwa shares with us intriguing questions which lead to thinking about the existence of a new way of communication used by living cells. These ideas lead to a new theory that revolutionizes the way we previously conceived the internal organization of living beings. Not only this theory is new in its own way but it also brings in many other stunning consequences about the living world as we know it. In this book, He also goes deep to cover other issues such as a review of the theory of evolution and the origins of human conflicts.

Book Gravitational Waves

Download or read book Gravitational Waves written by David M. Feldbaum and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gravitational wave (GW) research is one of the most rapidly developing subfields in experimental physics today. The theoretical underpinnings of this endeavor trace to the discussions of the "speed of gravity" in the 18th century, but the modern understanding of this phenomena was not realized until the middle of the 20th century. The minuteness of the gravitational force means that the effects associated with GWs are vanishingly small. To detect the GWs produced by the most enormously energetic sources in the universe, humans had to build devices capable of measuring the tiniest amounts of forces and displacements. This book delves into the exploration of the basics of the theory of GW, their generation, propagation, and detection by various methods. It does not delve into the depths of Einstein's General Relativity, but instead discusses successively closer approximations to the full theory. As a result, the book should be accessible to an ambitious undergraduate student majoring in physics or engineering. It could be read concurrently with standard junior-level textbooks in classical mechanics, and electromagnetic theory.

Book Crocheted Waves Bracelet

Download or read book Crocheted Waves Bracelet written by Janis Frank and published by Janis Frank. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looking for something unique to crochet? Look no further! I have a thing for bracelets (and slippers, but that's another story) and this is one of my most favourite things to crochet. Quick and easy to make, once you have made a few, it'll take you less than an evening to make one. This is also a great pattern if you have an extra special button that you just don't know what to do with, but want to show it off. You can use a muted colour such as white, or ecru to make it stand out even more. And if you are looking to make some extra cash and sell these, which I'm always cool with btw, the cost to make these is next to nothing. You can purchase crochet cotton thread for very reasonable costs, and reuse buttons you've collected, found at second hand stores, or even for cheap at many big box stores. There is also an ad supported version available to read online at KweenBee.com.
