Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the concepts underlying the measurement of parasympathetic and sympathetic (P&S) activity in the autonomic nervous system and the application of these measurements in the development of therapeutic guidelines for treating dysfunctions in these processes. It provides an overview of the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry of the autonomic nervous system; details general clinical applications of P&S monitoring that are independent of specialty or disease; presents the pathophysiology of P&S dysfunction in specific disorders, expected test results, therapeutic options, and expected outcomes; and includes case studies and longitudinal studies that demonstrate the major concepts for the common diseases for which P&S monitoring is recommended. Clinical Autonomic Dysfunction enables clinicians to improve patient outcomes by identifying and treating clinical problems related to autonomic nervous system disorders.
Download or read book Host Defense Dysfunction in Trauma Shock and Sepsis written by Eugen Faist and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unique overview of all aspects of host defense alterations under stressful conditions. It is based on the most important contributions given at the "2nd International Congress on the Immune Consequences of Trauma, Shock, and Sepsis-Mechanisms and Therapeutic Approaches," which was held in Munich under the auspices of the most distinguished scientific societies involved in this field (Society of Critical Care Medicine, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Societe Internationale de Chirurgie, Surgical Infection Society, Surgical Infection Society Europe, European Society for Surgical Research, International Society for Burn Injury, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and National Institutes of Health). Since the first conference of this kind in 1988, new information from basic studies and clinical trials has provided exciting and novel insights into the immune dysfunctions accom panying trauma, shock, and sepsis. The volume is divided into 18 parts presenting the structural background of trauma-induced alterations of immune and imflammatory mechanisms as well as the currently discussed therapeutic interventions designed to restore or maintain normal host defenses following major injury. Introducing the general theme of the book is a summary of the essential keystones of trauma and sepsis-related immune deficits. Discussions of the progress in trauma care brought through better understanding of the cell biology of injury and of the major clinical factors that influence host defense integrity in operative medicine provide a setting for understanding the wide array of detailed information that is presented thereafter.

Download or read book Mental Illness Stuttering and Gross Dysfunction written by S. L. C. and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-05 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “There are families that are dysfunctional with all small letters, others dysfunctional with a capital D, and then there are families that are dysfunctional with all capital letters, and this is your family.” Growing up, the author’s life was far from being perfect. With her parents’ constant fighting (never knowing when it would start, but sure in the knowledge that it would), her older brother’s indifference, her sister’s bipolar and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and her younger brothers’ grossly disrespectful manners toward her (including their tendencies to do the wrong things), it’s no wonder she has kept a lot of anger inside her. And this, she believes, was the cause of her stuttering. This condition has been a debilitating factor for her, robbing her of confidence during her formative years. Yet she persevered, despite all the familial baggage, and managed to finish college and become her own woman.
