Each of the devotions is made up of four sections. The first section in each devotional is a piece of scripture which serves as the foundation. The second section is an entry that extracts wisdom from the passage that can be applied to the typical college lifestyle. The third section included in each devotional is a Message, which issues a challenge and shares ways in which the message could be applied to anyone's life. The fourth and final section of this devotional includes questions and challenges that are meant to be shared through social media platforms. The college years are an incredible and often life-changing time in a student's life. This is when they begin to learn who they are apart from their parents, their friends from home, and everything else that they have grown accustomed to. Coming from the heart of a college student, who is familiar with the struggles that come with remaining close to God during that time, At First Glance, A Devotional for College Students, is the perfect gift for the college student or high school graduate in your life.

Book A First Glance at St Thomas Aquinas

Download or read book A First Glance at St Thomas Aquinas written by Ralph McInerny and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 1989-12-30 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomism is solidly based on the assumption that we know the world first through our senses and then through concepts formed on the basis of our sense experience. In this informally discursive introduction to St. Thomas Aquinas, Ralph McInerny shows how this basic assumption contrasts with dominant modern alternative views and is developed by Thomas into a coherent view of ourselves, of knowledge, and of God. McInerny first places Thomism in context within philosophical inquiry, discussing the relationship between philosophy and theology, and between modern and classical views of philosophy. He then describes the challenges Thomas faced with the introduction of Aristotle’s works into the Christian West. The reader is subsequently guided through such key concepts as art, nature, causes, and motion and shown how Thomas used these concepts to resolve the problems presented by Aristotle. Each chapter is tied to a specific Thomistic text, providing a sample from a number of Thomas’s works. In addition to articles from both Summas, there are sections from the Disputed Questions and the Commentaries, among others. McInerny also provides an annotated list of the writings of Thomas available in English. Bibliographical notes provided by the author, grouped by subject and following his general chapter divisions, will be particularly helpful for further reading.

Download or read book The Glance written by Jalaloddin Rumi and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2001-09-01 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1244, the brilliant poet Rumi and the wandering dervish Shams of Tabriz met and immediately fell into a deep spiritual connection. The Glance taps a major, yet little explored theme in Rumi's poetry-the mystical experience that occurs in the meeting of the eyes of the lover and the beloved, parent and child, friend and soul mate. Coleman Barks's new translations of these powerful and complex poems capture Rumi's range from the ethereal to the everyday. They reveal the unique place of human desire, love, and ecstasy, where there exists not just the union of two souls, but the crux of the universe. Here is a new kind of love lyric for our time-one of longing, connection, and wholeness.
