Download or read book Multivariate Approximation Theory IV written by CHUI and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multivariate Approximation Theory forms a rapidly evolving field in Applied Mathematics. The reason for its particular current interest lies in its impact on Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD), Image Processing, Pattern Recogni tion, and Mult idimensional Signal Processing. Mul ti var iate Bernstein polynomials and box splines, for example, play an important role in CAGD. Conversely, the highly important filter bank design problem of signal processing, for instance, gives rise to a new family of multivariate approximating functions, the Gabor wavelets, with interesting technological and biological applications. The conferences on Multivariate Approximation Theory held at the Mathematical Research Institute at Oberwolfach, Black Forest, in 1976, 1979, 1982, 1985 and 1989 ref lect the progress made in this area and related fie Ids. The present volume which is a continuation of the preceding volumes Constructive Theory of Functions of Several Variables, Lecture Notes in Mathematics 571 (1977) Multivariate Approximation Theory, ISNM 51 (1979) Multivariate Approximation Theory II, ISNM 61 (1982) Multivariate Approximation Theory III, ISNM 75 (1985) is based on the conference held on February 12-18, 1989. It includes most of the lectures presented at the Oberwolfach meeting and reveals the wide spectrum of activities in the field of multivariate approximation. The organizers are grateful to the Director of the Oberwolfach Mathematical Research Institute, Professor Dr. M. Barner, and his staff for providing the facili ties, and to Dr. G. Baszenski, Professor Dr. F. J. Delvos, Dr. H.

Download or read book Stochastic Processes Multiscale Modeling and Numerical Methods for Computational Cellular Biology written by David Holcman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the modeling and mathematical analysis of stochastic dynamical systems along with their simulations. The collected chapters will review fundamental and current topics and approaches to dynamical systems in cellular biology. This text aims to develop improved mathematical and computational methods with which to study biological processes. At the scale of a single cell, stochasticity becomes important due to low copy numbers of biological molecules, such as mRNA and proteins that take part in biochemical reactions driving cellular processes. When trying to describe such biological processes, the traditional deterministic models are often inadequate, precisely because of these low copy numbers. This book presents stochastic models, which are necessary to account for small particle numbers and extrinsic noise sources. The complexity of these models depend upon whether the biochemical reactions are diffusion-limited or reaction-limited. In the former case, one needs to adopt the framework of stochastic reaction-diffusion models, while in the latter, one can describe the processes by adopting the framework of Markov jump processes and stochastic differential equations. Stochastic Processes, Multiscale Modeling, and Numerical Methods for Computational Cellular Biology will appeal to graduate students and researchers in the fields of applied mathematics, biophysics, and cellular biology.

Download or read book Optical Coding Theory with Prime written by Wing C. Kwong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although several books cover the coding theory of wireless communications and the hardware technologies and coding techniques of optical CDMA, no book has been specifically dedicated to optical coding theory—until now. Written by renowned authorities in the field, Optical Coding Theory with Prime gathers together in one volume the fundamentals and developments of optical coding theory, with a focus on families of prime codes, supplemented with several families of non-prime codes. The book also explores potential applications to coding-based optical systems and networks. Learn How to Construct and Analyze Optical Codes The authors use a theorem-proof approach, breaking down theories into digestible form so that readers can understand the main message without searching through tedious proofs. The book begins with the mathematical tools needed to understand and apply optical coding theory, from Galois fields and matrices to Gaussian and combinatorial analytical tools. Using a wealth of examples, the authors show how optical codes are constructed and analyzed, and detail their performance in a variety of applications. The book examines families of 1-D and 2-D asynchronous and synchronous, multilength, and 3-D prime codes, and some non-prime codes. Get a Working Knowledge of Optical Coding Theory to Help You Design Optical Systems and Networks Prerequisites include a basic knowledge of linear algebra and coding theory, as well as a foundation in probability and communications theory. This book draws on the authors’ extensive research to offer an authoritative reference on the emerging field of optical coding theory. In addition, it supplies a working knowledge of the theory and optical codes to help readers in the design of coding-based optical systems and networks. For more on the technological aspects of optical CDMA, see Optical Code Division Multiple Access: Fundamentals and Applications (CRC Press 2005).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sixth Edition of this influential best-selling book delivers the most up-to-date and comprehensive text and reference yet on the basis of the finite element method (FEM) for all engineers and mathematicians. Since the appearance of the first edition 38 years ago, The Finite Element Method provides arguably the most authoritative introductory text to the method, covering the latest developments and approaches in this dynamic subject, and is amply supplemented by exercises, worked solutions and computer algorithms.• The classic FEM text, written by the subject's leading authors • Enhancements include more worked examples and exercises• With a new chapter on automatic mesh generation and added materials on shape function development and the use of higher order elements in solving elasticity and field problemsActive research has shaped The Finite Element Method into the pre-eminent tool for the modelling of physical systems. It maintains the comprehensive style of earlier editions, while presenting the systematic development for the solution of problems modelled by linear differential equations. Together with the second and third self-contained volumes (0750663219 and 0750663227), The Finite Element Method Set (0750664312) provides a formidable resource covering the theory and the application of FEM, including the basis of the method, its application to advanced solid and structural mechanics and to computational fluid dynamics. - The classic introduction to the finite element method, by two of the subject's leading authors - Any professional or student of engineering involved in understanding the computational modelling of physical systems will inevitably use the techniques in this key text
