Book Asymptotic and Hybrid Methods in Electromagnetics

Download or read book Asymptotic and Hybrid Methods in Electromagnetics written by I. Andronov and published by IET. This book was released on 2005-07-18 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotic methods provide considerable physical insight and understanding of diffraction mechanisms and are very useful in the design of electromagnetic devices such as radar targets and antennas. However, difficulties can arise when trying to solve problems using multipole and asymoptotic methods together, such as in radar crosssection objects. This new book offers a solution to this problem by combining these approaches into hybrid methods, therefore creating high demand for both understanding and learning how to apply asymptotic and hybrid methods to solve diffraction problems.

Book Asymptotic Methods in Electromagnetics

Download or read book Asymptotic Methods in Electromagnetics written by Daniel Bouche and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerically rigorous techniques for the computation of electromagnetic fields diffracted by an object become computationally intensive, if not impractical to handle, at high frequencies and one must resort to asymptotic methods to solve the scattering problem at short wavelengths. The asymptotic methods provide closed form expansions for the diffracted fields and are also useful for eliciting physical interpretations of the various diffraction phenomena. One of the principal objectives of this book is to discuss the different asymptotic methods in a unified manner. Although the book contains explicit formulas for computing the field diffracted by conducting or dielectric-coated objects, it also provides the mathematical foundations of the different methods and explains how they are interrelated.

It also provides you with new ideas in the design and development of unique waveforms for reliable target identification and practical radar signal analysis. The book includes more then 500 equations, and covers a wide range of topics, from numerical methods to signal processing aspects.

Book Selected Asymptotic Methods with Applications to Electromagnetics and Antennas

Download or read book Selected Asymptotic Methods with Applications to Electromagnetics and Antennas written by George Fikioris and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and illustrates the application of several asymptotic methods that have proved useful in the authors' research in electromagnetics and antennas. We first define asymptotic approximations and expansions and explain these concepts in detail. We then develop certain prerequisites from complex analysis such as power series, multivalued functions (including the concepts of branch points and branch cuts), and the all-important gamma function. Of particular importance is the idea of analytic continuation (of functions of a single complex variable); our discussions here include some recent, direct applications to antennas and computational electromagnetics. Then, specific methods are discussed. These include integration by parts and the Riemann-Lebesgue lemma, the use of contour integration in conjunction with other methods, techniques related to Laplace's method and Watson's lemma, the asymptotic behavior of certain Fourier sine and cosine transforms, and the Poisson summation formula (including its version for finite sums). Often underutilized in the literature are asymptotic techniques based on the Mellin transform; our treatment of this subject complements the techniques presented in our recent Synthesis Lecture on the exact (not asymptotic) evaluation of integrals.

Book Problems of High Frequency Diffraction by Elongated Bodies

Download or read book Problems of High Frequency Diffraction by Elongated Bodies written by Ivan Andronov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-14 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical asymptotic expansions, while producing a good approximation for the diffracted fields in general, appear hardly applicable in the case of extremely elongated bodies. Thus, there are problems that are on the one hand too difficult for numerical solvers due to large system size, and on the other hand make the description with classical asymptotic methods hard. The book explains why this happens and suggests the way out. By defining the characteristics of a strongly elongated body it introduces a special class of asymptotic approximations, which are in some sense uniform with respect to the rate of body elongation. Chapter 1 briefly describes the results of V. A. Fock and further developments of his approach towards the problems of diffraction by elongated obstacles. It formulates the cases of moderately and strongly elongated bodies. The rest of the book describes the approach of special parabolic equations, which lead to new asymptotic approximations for the diffracted fields. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 discuss diffraction by bodies of elliptical shape: The elliptic cylinder with a strongly elongated cross section and prolate spheroid with a high aspect ratio. Chapter 5 generalizes the approach to some other shapes such as narrow cones and narrow hyperboloids. Mathematical formulas for the Whittaker functions widely used in the book are collected in the Appendix. The concise derivations are supplied with numerous test examples that compare asymptotic approximations with numerically computed fields and clarify the specifics of high frequency diffraction by strongly elongated bodies. The reference solutions presented in the book enable one to validate the newly developed numerical solvers.

Book Electromagnetic Field Computation by Network Methods

Download or read book Electromagnetic Field Computation by Network Methods written by Leopold B. Felsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-05 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, the authors propose a systematic and rigorous treatment of electromagnetic field representations in complex structures. The architecture suggested in this book accommodates use of different numerical methods as well as alternative Green's function representations in each of the subdomains resulting from a partitioning of the overall problem. The subdomains are regions of space where electromagnetic energy is stored and are described in terms of equivalent circuit representations based either on lumped element circuits or on transmission lines. Connection networks connect the subcircuits representing the subdomains. The connection networks are lossless, don't store energy and represent the overall problem topology. This is similar to what is done in circuit theory and permits a phrasing of the solution of EM field problems in complex structures by Network-oriented methods.

Book Essentials of Computational Electromagnetics

Download or read book Essentials of Computational Electromagnetics written by Xin-Qing Sheng and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-03-22 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentials of Computational Electromagnetics provides an in-depth introduction of the three main full-wave numerical methods in computational electromagnetics (CEM); namely, the method of moment (MoM), the finite element method (FEM), and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Numerous monographs can be found addressing one of the above three methods. However, few give a broad general overview of essentials embodied in these methods, or were published too early to include recent advances. Furthermore, many existing monographs only present the final numerical results without specifying practical issues, such as how to convert discretized formulations into computer programs, and the numerical characteristics of the computer programs. In this book, the authors elaborate the above three methods in CEM using practical case studies, explaining their own research experiences along with a review of current literature. A full analysis is provided for typical cases, including characteristics of numerical methods, helping beginners to develop a quick and deep understanding of the essentials of CEM. Outlines practical issues, such as how to convert discretized formulations into computer programs Gives typical computer programs and their numerical characteristics along with line by line explanations of programs Uses practical examples from the authors' own work as well as in the current literature Includes exercise problems to give readers a better understanding of the material Introduces the available commercial software and their limitations This book is intended for graduate-level students in antennas and propagation, microwaves, microelectronics, and electromagnetics. This text can also be used by researchers in electrical and electronic engineering, and software developers interested in writing their own code or understanding the detailed workings of code. Book Fundamentals of the Physical Theory of Diffraction

Download or read book Fundamentals of the Physical Theory of Diffraction written by Pyotr Ya. Ufimtsev and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a complete, comprehensive description of the modern Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTD) based upon the concept of elementary edge waves. The theory is demonstrated with examples of the diffraction of acoustic and electromagnetic waves at perfectly reflecting objects. Readers develop the skills to apply PTD to solve various scattering problems. The derived analytic expressions clearly illustrate the physical structure of the scattered field. They additionally describe all of the reflected and diffracted rays and beams, as well as the fields in the vicinity of caustics and foci. Shadow radiation, a fundamental component of PTD, is introduced and proven to contain half the total scattered power. The equivalence relationships between acoustic and electromagnetic diffracted waves are established and emphasized. Throughout the book, the author enables readers to master both the theory and its practical applications. Plotted numeric results supplement the theory and facilitate the visualization of individual contributions of distinct parts of the scattering objects to the total diffracted field Detailed comments help readers understand and implement all the critical steps of the analytic and numeric calculations Problem sets in each chapter give readers an opportunity to analyse and investigate the diffraction phenomena

Book Acoustic High Frequency Diffraction Theory

Download or read book Acoustic High Frequency Diffraction Theory written by Frédéric Molinet and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2011-05-15 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering analytical research in aerial and underwater acoustics, this new scholarly work treats the interaction of acoustic waves with obstacles which may be rigid, soft, elastic, or characterized by an impedance boundary condition. The approach is founded on asymptotic high frequency methods which are based on the concept of rays. For despite the progress in numerical methods for diffraction problems, ray methods still remain the most useful method of approximation for analyzing wave motions. They provide not only considerable physical insight and understanding of diffraction mechanisms but they are also able to treat objects which are still too large in terms of wavelength to fall in the realm of numerical analysis.
