Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy, astrophysics and space research have witnessed an explosive development over the last few decades. The new observational potential offered by space stations and the availability of powerful and highly specialized computers have revealed novel aspects of the fascinating realm of galaxies, quasars, stars and planets. The present completely revised 5th edition of The New Cosmos provides ample evidence of these dramatic developments. In a concise presentation, which assumes only a modest prior knowledge of mathematics and physics, the book gives a coherent introduction to the entire field of astronomy and astrophysics. At the same time it takes into account the art of observation and the fundamental ideas behind their interpretation. Like its predecessors, this edition of The New Cosmos will provide new insight and enjoyment not only to students and researchers in the fields of astronomy, physics and earth sciences, but also to a wide range of interested amateurs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of the orbital motion of the Earth, the Moon and other planets and their satellites led to the discovery that all bodies in the Solar System are moving with the first cosmic velocity of their proto parents. The mean orbital velocity of each planet is equal to the first cosmic velocity of the Protosun, the radius of which is equal to the semi-major axis of the planet’s orbit. The same applies for the planets’ satellites. All the small planets, comets, other bodies and the Sun itself follow this law, a finding that has also been proven by astronomical observations. The theoretical solutions based on the Jacobi dynamics explain the process of the system creation and decay, as well as the nature of Kepler’s laws.

Book The Chinese Astronomical Bureau 1620 1850

Download or read book The Chinese Astronomical Bureau 1620 1850 written by Ping-Ying Chang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-07 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new insight into one of the most interesting and long-lived institutions known to historians of science, the Chinese imperial Astronomical Bureau, which for two millennia observed, recorded, interpreted and predicted the movements of the celestial bodies. Utilising archival material, such as the résumés written for imperial audiences and personnel administration records, the book traces the rise and fall of more than thirty hereditary families serving at the Astronomical Bureau from the late Ming period to the end of the Qing dynasty. The book also presents an in-depth view into the organisation and function of the Bureau and succinctly charts the impacts of historical developments during the Ming and Qing periods, including the Regency of Prince Dorgon, the influence of the Jesuits, the relationship between the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperors and the He family and the failure of the bureau to predict correctly the solar eclipse of 1730. Presenting a social history of the Qing Astronomical Bureau from the perspective of hereditary astronomer families, this book will be of interest to scholars and students of Chinese Imperial history, the history of science and Asian history.

Book excerpt: Based on measured astronomical position data of heavenly objects in the Solar System and other planetary systems in the Universe, all bodies in space seem to move in some kind of elliptical motion with respect to each other. In this book, it is mathematically demonstrated and proven that bodies moving on two different circular orbits in space vector-wise behave as if moving on an elliptical path with respect to each other, and virtually seeing each other at an instantaneously stationary point in space on their relative virtual ecliptic plane. This mathematical revelation has the potential to lead to far reaching discoveries in physics, enabling more insight into forces of nature, with a formulation of a new fundamental model regarding the motions of bodies in the Universe, including the Sun, Planets, and Satellites in the Solar System and elsewhere, as well as at particle and subatomic level. Based on the demonstrated mathematical analysis, the assertion is made that the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon must each be revolving in their individual circular orbits of revolution in space, as they exhibit almost fixed elliptical orbits relative to one another over time. With this assertion, individual orbital parameters of the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon are also calculated based on observed Earth-Sun and Earth-Moon distance data, to an approximation, with an analytical method also developed in this book. The analysis has revealed additional results aligned with observation, supporting our assertion that the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon must actually be revolving in circular orbits, with additional surprising insight into the orbits of these heavenly bodies, which can all be found inside. This book consists of: Four scientific papers detailing the research results of Aslı Pınar Tan on this subject, a fifth scientific paper presenting the overall picture of obtained results, and a sixth scientific paper with an overview of results for readers in Turkish.
