Book An Associative Processor Using Bulk Storage

Download or read book An Associative Processor Using Bulk Storage written by Hubert H. Love and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major goal of the Association-Storing Processor project has been the development of an associative processor for general non-arithmetic computer applications which can be used in a time-sharing on-line mode of operation, which makes efficient use of parallel associative hardware to achieve high processing speed, and which uses an inexpensive serial-access bulk memory for data storage. To achieve this goal, the ASP-Dynabit system has been defined. It makes use of a set of parallel-access content-addressable memories, and a new memory device, called the Dynabit, as the central system components. The Dynabit is a magnetic wire shift register from which a serial-acess bulk memory having no moving parts can be constructed. Since it can be shifted at any rate, from and including zero to its maximum shift rate, it eliminates the need for external buffering. Also, using the Dynabit in conjunction with the associative memories, very complex data searches and modifications can be performed at nearly the maximum rate of data access, and with almost no block transfer of data from bulk storage. Because the ASP-Dynabit system uses associative hardware, it is well suited to LSI fabrication, and thus achieves its orders-of-magnitude improvement in processing speed without a commensurate increase in cost as compared with systems using serial processors. Book Study of Associative Processing Techniques

Download or read book Study of Associative Processing Techniques written by Richard H. Fuller and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes designs of two novel stored program digital machines which process non-numeric data by use of distributed associative logic. The first machine is an associative processor, which is programmed to abstract properties from visual or other patterns, and to classify patterns by use of these properties. Associative logic simultaneously evaluates many linear threshold decision functions at high solution rates and with high digital accuracy. Functional behavior of the machine is easily modified by changing memory contents. The techniques used to evaluate threshold functions may also be used to evaluate arbitrary Boolean functions of stored and external variables. The second machine described is an associative file processor. This processor rapidly searches a data base, simultaneously against many descriptors. The processor uses an inexpensive disc memory for record storage. It allows variable record lengths with simple insertion, deletion, or modification of stored records. It allows equality research, limit search, or between limits search on all descriptors within input queries. Block diagrams, command sets, and logic descriptions are given for each processor. Each processor is programmed to accomplish its intended tasks. Applications for each processor are described. (Author).

Book RAPID A Rotating Associative Processor for Information Dissemination

Download or read book RAPID A Rotating Associative Processor for Information Dissemination written by Behrooz Parhami and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of associative memories and processors to non-numerical symbol-manipulation problems, in particular information storage and retrieval, are reviewed. An associative processor is proposed that can perform string processing and pattern matching operations needed for information retrieval application. It uses a cyclic memory device with a very high data rate in conjunction with an array processor. This system is called RAPID, Rotating Associative Processor for Information Dissemination, since it uses a rotating memory device and processes information associatively. A specific design for the array processing section is given. Some applications of this associative processor are illustrated through examples. (Author).

Book An Associative Processor

Download or read book An Associative Processor written by Tse-yun Feng and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fully associative processor is proposed in this report. This processor may achieve all the relational, the logic, and the retrieval operations, which should be achieved by any associative system. Furthermore, a possibility of extending the capability of the associative processor to arithmetic operations is also suggested. The operation speeds (in terms of cycle time) for various searches and retrievals are discussed. The proposed system appears, in principle, to have the highest speed for achieving complex searches and for performing ordered retrievals as compared to any other associative system so far proposed. The system is also capable of achieving simple searches in one cycle time and resolving n simultaneous responses in n retrieval cycles. A 4x4 breadboard associative memory using multiaperture cores was constructed and tested. This memory has the noise compensation feature which would greatly increase the memory capacity. The propagation delay and attenuation effects were analyzed in relationship to noise compensation. The above associative memory may also include signal compensation which would provide the memory the ability to detect the neighboring codes of a specific code. Thus, the system reliability can be increased when redundant codes are used. A system of notation was developed so that the search specifications can be expressed in terms of logic equations. A simple language for the system is also suggested. Three magnetic memory devices are proposed. Some experiments were performed on the modified waffle-iron devices. (Author).

Book Associative Processor Application Study

Download or read book Associative Processor Application Study written by Brian W. Prentice and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes work performed in support of a research study on the applicability of using associative processing to meet the real-time high data rate processing requirements of the USAF. A GAC STARAN S-1000 associative processor was the object of this study. The work tasks described in the appendices of this document are a subset of those required to complete the RADC research study plan. The parallel implementations of both the AWACS active tracking and passive tracking functions on the RADC STARAN testbed should be completed. The performance of each of these programs should be measured and compared with the performance of their respective serial programs. The tasks required to complete this work are discussed.

Book Associative Processing in the Solution of Network Problems

Download or read book Associative Processing in the Solution of Network Problems written by Vincent A. Orlando and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AN 4 PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE, TRANSPORTATION MODELS, DATA MANAGEMENTAn associative processor is a highly parallel computer possessing the capability of addressing data fields by content and performing logical and arithmetic operations simultaneously on all storage words. Classical network problems in the field of operations research exhibit a naturally associative data structure and have computational requirements similar to the capabilities of the associative processor. The research reported is a quantitative evaluation of the applicability of the associative processor to the solution of this class of problems. Specific examples examined are the minumum path, assignment, transportation, maximum flow and minimum cost flow problems. The results of this research easily support the conclusion that the associative processor is well suited to the solution of this class of network problems. (Author).

Book Associative Processor Application Study Volume I Summary

Download or read book Associative Processor Application Study Volume I Summary written by Hsiung-Fei Lee and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes work performed in support of an associative processor application study. A GAC STARAN-1000 associative processor (AP) was used to evaluate the capability of a parallel computer architecture to satisfy real time, command and control data processing requirements of the USAF. The passive tracking, radar data correlator and coordinate conversion functions of the AWACS were selected for use in the study. The passive tracking function was designed and implemented on the AP. The performance of the parallel program was compared against that of the sequential version which was measured on an IBM 360/65 computer. The parallel passive tracking program used floating point arithmetic. The coordinate conversion function was also designed and implemented in fixed point arithmetic on the AP. The performance of the parallel program was measured. The radar data correlator function design for AP implementation used a new concept in radar signal processing. No performance data was collected.
