Book Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Orthodontics

Download or read book Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Orthodontics written by Sunil D. Kapila and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-08-29 with total page 880 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its introduction to dentistry, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has undergone a rapid evolution and considerable integration into orthodontics. However, despite the increasing popularity of CBCT and progress in applying it to clinical orthodontics, the profession has lacked a cohesive, comprehensive and objective reference that provides clinicians with the background needed to utilize this technology optimally for treating their patients. Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Orthodontics provides timely, impartial, and state-of-the-art information on the indications and protocols for CBCT imaging in orthodontics, clinical insights gained from these images, and innovations driven by these insights. As such, it is the most current and authoritative textbook on CBCT in orthodontics. Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Orthodontics is organized to progress sequentially through specific topics so as to build the knowledgebase logically in this important and rapidly evolving field. Part I provides the foundational information on CBCT technology, including radiation exposure and risks, and future evolutions in computed tomography. Part II presents the Principles and Protocols for CBCT Imaging in Orthodontics, focusing on developing evidence-based criteria for CBCT imaging, the medico-legal implications of CBCT to the professional and the protocols and integration of this technology in orthodontic practice. Part III provides critical information on CBCT-based Diagnosis and Treatment Planning that includes how to interpret CBCT scans, identify incidental pathologies and the possible other uses of this technology. Part IV covers practical aspects of CBCT’s Clinical Applications and Treatment Outcomes that encompasses a range of topics, including root morphology and position, treatment of impacted teeth, virtual surgical treatment planning and outcomes, and more.

Book 3D Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Orthodontics

Download or read book 3D Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Orthodontics written by Jean-Marc Retrouvey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-13 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This richly illustrated book is a wide-ranging guide to modern diagnostics and treatment planning in orthodontics, which are mandatory prior to the initiation of any type of comprehensive treatment. The importance of three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques has been increasingly recognized owing to the shortcomings of conventional two-dimensional imaging in some patients, such as those requiring complex adult treatment and those with temporomandibular joint dysfunctions or sleep disturbances. In the first part of this book, readers will find clear description and illustration of the diagnostic role of the latest 3D imaging techniques, including cone beam computed tomography, intra-oral scanning, and magnetic resonance imaging. The second part explains in detail the application of 3D techniques in treatment planning for orthodontic and orthognathic surgery. Guidance is also provided on the use of image fusion software for the purposes of accurate diagnosis and precise design of the most appropriate biomechanical approach in patients with malocclusions.

Book Assessment of Mandibular Surface Changes During Growth and Development

Download or read book Assessment of Mandibular Surface Changes During Growth and Development written by Eliana Sarit and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth of the mandible affects the outcome of orthodontic treatment in children. Traditionally, evaluation of mandibular growth uses 2D cephalometric analyses. While still used by orthodontists today, these 2D analyses are fraught with errors in measurement associated with interpreting 2D projections of 3D structures. Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) provides a means to study craniofacial structures in 3D. The objective of this study is to identify 3D topographical changes of mandible during the period of growth and development in orthodontic patients. Ten subjects with serial CBCT images were selected from the Bolton-Brush collection. The age of the subjects ranged from 8 to 14 years-old. Mandibular growth is evaluated using serial pairs of CBCT images which are segmented, superimposed using regional voxel-based mutual information, and quantitatively evaluated in AmiraXImage®. Surface topography changes over time in these 19 subjects are reported as follows: 56% of surface remodeling at a threshold of 0.5mm, median remodeling of 0.6mm, 0.8mm 0.6mm SD. Intra- and inter-rater ICC reliability for for surface generation (0.82 and 0.90, respectively) and superimpositions (0.94 and 0.93, respectively) demonstrate the reliability of the technique. The findings of this study support theories of bone remodeling reported in histological and radiographic studies of mandibular growth.
