Book Assessment of Industrial Hazardous Waste Practices Rubber and Plastics Industry Rubber Products Industry

Download or read book Assessment of Industrial Hazardous Waste Practices Rubber and Plastics Industry Rubber Products Industry written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This industry study is one of a series under the Office of Solid Waste Management Program of the Hazardous Waste Management Division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The report concentrates on the rubber and plastics industry. It characterizes these industries in terms of number, location, size and age of plants, products, processes, etc.; identifies and quantifies those wastes which are may be generated by these industries; describes current practices for treatment and disposal of potentially hazardous wastes; determines the control technologies which might be applied to reduce hazards presented by these wastes upon disposal; and estimates the cost of control technology implementations. The information presented in the report was acquired from a review of published information; trade association participation; personal contacts; visits to various plants and corporate offices of germane companies; waste sample analysis; and the application of an econometric model to project waste loads for 1977 and 1983.

Book Reducing Hazardous Waste Generation

Download or read book Reducing Hazardous Waste Generation written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1985-02-01 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first thorough exploration of how industry, government, and the public can use available nontechnical means to reduce significantly the amount of hazardous waste entering the environment. Among the approaches considered are modifications to avoid contaminating normal wastewater with hazardous by-products, education of management and engineering personnel about reuse and recycling, reform of regulations and enforcement procedures, and incentives for improvement in waste practices. A free digest of this volume accompanies each copy.

Book Treatment and Disposal of Solid and Hazardous Wastes

Download or read book Treatment and Disposal of Solid and Hazardous Wastes written by Debashish Sengupta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-13 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in solid and hazardous waste management is relatively recent, i.e., in the last three decades, and is driven by regulations in most countries. It began with industrial hazardous waste followed by municipal solid waste, and subsequently by many other categories of waste. This book presents numerous examples and case studies of innovative tools, treatment methods and applications in this growing area of research and development. It describes in detail laboratory methods of measuring the biodegradation of specific organic fractions, like floral waste, and also discusses the treatment of yard and food waste by anaerobic digestion and landfill leachate using constructed wetlands. Case studies are provided that show how remote sensing (RS) and GIS were used to develop an integrated solid waste management plan for a city and to evaluate the environmental impacts of stone quarrying activities. The book also features chapters discussing the implications of natural radioactivity in beach placers and their impact on groundwater and other parts of the environment, as well as the twelve principles of green chemistry and their application in the reuse and recycling of solid waste. Moreover, it includes examples of waste to energy, like refuse derived fuel and biofuel generation and an evaluation of their potential, and covers topics such as life cycle assessment as a tool for developing integrated solid waste management systems and an overview of municipal solid waste management rules, illustrating the importance of technological inputs in the development of regulatory frameworks. Written by leading practitioners and scholars in the field, the book enables readers to understand and apply these principles and practices in their endeavours.
