Book A Standardized Coal Resource reserve Reporting System for Canada

Download or read book A Standardized Coal Resource reserve Reporting System for Canada written by John D. Hughes and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussion of definitions, concepts and parameters used to determine coal resource and reserve quantities, as well as providing a framework to facilitate consistent categorization of coal quantities found within various depositional and tectonic regimes in Canada. Coal deposits, or portions thereof, are first categorized in terms of their geological complexity (geology type) and probable recovery method (deposit type). Methods for determining quantification parameters including seam thickness, areal extent and bulk density are outlined for each geology/deposit category. Within each geology/deposit category, coal resources are further divided, based on their assurance of existence, into measured, indicated, inferred, and speculative subdivisions, and according to their feasibility of exploitation, into immediate and future interest subdivisions. Coal reserves within each geology/deposit cateogry are subdivided according to whether they are within or outside active mining areas, and may be reported on inplace, recoverable and saleable bases.

Book An Assessment of the Potential for Coal derived Syncrudes in Canada

Download or read book An Assessment of the Potential for Coal derived Syncrudes in Canada written by K. Morgan Macrae and published by Calgary : Canadian Energy Research Institute. This book was released on 1988 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the context of Canada's future energy demand and declining conventional crude oil production, this report examines recent advances in coal liquids technology and assesses the potential role of coal-derived synthetic fuels in the evolving energy technology mix. The model used in this study allocates, on an optimal basis, all the relevant Canadian energy resources - conventional and frontier crude oil, natural gas, bitumen, and coal - among the potentially available technologies and also over time. The supply cost analysis, production and on-stream development scenarios presented for upgraders, mined oil sands plants and coal liquids facilities are based on a complete re-assessment of the potential costs of all of the major energy supply options, measured against a re-evaluation of the Institute's CREED model and a linear programming model developed by the Alberta Research Council. A detailed evaluation, undertaken by the MITRE Corp. in the U.S., of recent advances in direct coal liquefaction together with a study published by the Electric Power Research Institute on coal/oil co-processing, formed the basis of the state-of-the-art coal liquids technology.

Book Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974 1976

Download or read book Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974 1976 written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974–1976 is a directory of energy research and development projects conducted in various countries such as Canada, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom between 1974 and 1976. A limited number of projects sponsored by international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency are also included. This directory consists of nine chapters and opens with a section on organic sources of energy such as coal, oil and gas, peat, hydrocarbons, and non-fossil organic sources. The next sections focus on thermonuclear energy and plasma physics; fission sources and energy production; geophysical energy sources; conversion technology; and environmental aspects of energy conversion and use. Energy transport, transmission, utilization, and conservation are also covered. The final chapter deals with energy systems and other energy-related research on subjects ranging from car sharing and urban passenger transport to nuclear power plants, energy supply and demand models, and high-power molecular lasers. This monograph will be a valuable resource of information for those involved in energy research and development.

Book Energy and the Quality of Life

Download or read book Energy and the Quality of Life written by Clifford A. Hooker and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1981-12-15 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the supply/cost crunch tightens, issues related to energy become increasingly compelling. This is a guide for the general public to the fossil fuel crisis facing Canada, and Ontario in particular. It is also about other long-term matters of greater importance: the economic, socio-political, and cultural consequences of the choices which now have to be made, primarily by governments. The authors argue that energy policy is social policy. Therefore our ideas about the kind of society we want must be a governing consideration in working out a policy to take Canada through the energy crisis. The four writers bring to bear on the problem the perspectives of engineering, philosophy, environmental studies, and economics. The result is a balanced guide for the continuing debate on the adaptation of society to the imperatives of energy.

Book Coal

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2007-12-21
  • ISBN : 030911022X
  • Pages : 183 pages

Download or read book Coal written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal will continue to provide a major portion of energy requirements in the United States for at least the next several decades. It is imperative that accurate information describing the amount, location, and quality of the coal resources and reserves be available to fulfill energy needs. It is also important that the United States extract its coal resources efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. A renewed focus on federal support for coal-related research, coordinated across agencies and with the active participation of the states and industrial sector, is a critical element for each of these requirements. Coal focuses on the research and development needs and priorities in the areas of coal resource and reserve assessments, coal mining and processing, transportation of coal and coal products, and coal utilization.
