Book Decision Based Design

Download or read book Decision Based Design written by Vijitashwa Pandey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-08-26 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that formalizes what makes up decision based design, Decision Based Design defines the major concepts that go into product realization. It presents all major concepts in design decision making in an integrated way and covers the fundamentals of decision analysis in engineering design. It also trains engineers to understand the impacts of design decision. The author teaches concepts in demand modeling and customer preference modeling and provides examples. This book teaches most fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design like: concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. The book provides the tools engineering practitioners and researchers need to first understand that engineering design is best viewed as a sequence of decisions made by the stakeholders involved and then apply the decision based design concepts in practice. It teaches fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design, such as concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. This book helps students and practitioners understand that there is a rigorous way to analyze engineering decisions taking into consideration all the potential technical and business impacts of their decisions. It can be used in its entirety to teach a course in decision based design, while selected chapters can also be used to cover courses in subdisciplines that make up decision based design.

Book Condition Control and Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Structures Exposed to Corrosive Environments carbonation chlorides

Download or read book Condition Control and Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Structures Exposed to Corrosive Environments carbonation chlorides written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the ongoing condition assessment of concrete structures, it is necessary to identify the extent, nature, cause and prognosis of any deterioration using a range of tools and methods, including prediction models. Combined with the original design and construction details, this gives a vast amount of information over a long time period. A framework concept is therefore needed to process the entirety of the information in order to make sound investment decisions on future maintenance management. To provide such a framework, fib Bulletin 59 summarizes information published infib Bulletins 17, 22, 34 and 44 relevant to the control and assessment of reinforced concrete structures, and develops a practical concept of how, when and where to control the condition of an existing concrete structure in order to facilitate structural management. Thus it gives a basis for processing relevant information in order to make decisions on the appropriate course of action for condition control.

Book Advanced fibre reinforced polymer FRP composites for structural applications

Download or read book Advanced fibre reinforced polymer FRP composites for structural applications written by J. Custódio and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 928 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This chapter briefly discusses the performance and durability of bonded composite systems used for on-site rehabilitation of timber and concrete structures. In spite of some recent developments, the exploitation of their full potential is still often restrained by the lack of structural design guidance, standards for durability assessment and on-site acceptance testing. Therefore, this chapter provides a review of current understanding on the use of hybrid bonded composite systems on the construction site in terms of structural repair, reinforcement, and seismic retrofit. It focuses on the requirements and practical difficulties in the work on-site with regards to the performance and durability of the rehabilitated structure, the characteristics and requirements that must be fulfilled by structural adhesives and advanced polymer composite materials, and the subsequent need for quality control and in-service monitoring. It also highlights the factors affecting performance and durability of bonded joints. Finally, a general overview of the research needs and a bibliography giving references to more detailed information on this topic is given.
