Book International Governance of Fisheries Ecosystems

Download or read book International Governance of Fisheries Ecosystems written by American Fisheries Society. Meeting and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fisheries experts increasingly acknowledge the importance of globalization on local, national, and international fisheries. This book brings together fisheries and governance experts from across the globe who present case studies on a broad spectrum of the internationally shared fisheries that inhabit diverse freshwater and marine ecosystem types. Case studies provide the biological background of the fisheries resource, including status and threats to the resource and its ecosystem. The case studies review the evolution and current governance institutions of the fisheries resource, with particular focus on international or global institutions. Each study concludes with an evaluation of the effectiveness of the current fisheries governance institutions, and recommendations for change.

Book An Evaluation of Putative Lake Trout Salvelinus Namaycush Spawning Sites in the Great Lakes

Download or read book An Evaluation of Putative Lake Trout Salvelinus Namaycush Spawning Sites in the Great Lakes written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Native stocks of lake trout were severely depleted in much of Lake Superior and became virtually extinct in Lakes Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario during the 1940-50s. The Great Lakes Fisheries Commission has developed a series of 7 goals for Lake Superior, one of which was the restored use of historical spawning reefs by lake trout. This assumed an ability to identify characteristics of spawning locations. To determine common factors among spawning sites, published material of lake trout spawning in the Great Lakes was reviewed and spawning sites were identified and enumerated, depth and substrate characteristics were summarized, and information sources were evaluated.

Book Stock Assessment and Yield Potential of Lake Trout in Fielding Lake 2020 2021

Download or read book Stock Assessment and Yield Potential of Lake Trout in Fielding Lake 2020 2021 written by Matthew Albert and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objectives of this study are to estimate the abundance and length composition of lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in Fielding Lake and update the sustainable harvest level using the Lake Area model. Abundance and length composition of lake trout will be estimated for 2 different populations of inference in Fielding Lake: 1) fish large enough to be captured by common sport fishing gear, and; 2) mature spawning males. To estimate abundance and length composition germane to each population, 2 separate two-event mark-recapture experiments will be conducted. The first experiment will utilize common sport fishing gear and techniques to capture fish throughout the lake in June 2020 and 2021, while the second experiment will capture spawning fish in September 2020 and 2021 with a beach seine. The weights of fish captured with common sport fishing gear during the first experiment will be used to estimate the number of lake trout that can be sustainably harvested on an annual basis using the Lake Area model. Abundance estimates will be compared to the updated sustainable harvest level and to previous population assessments to determine if current harvest limits and regulations are appropriate.

Book Summary of the Winter Netting and Mark and Recapture Study on Saddle Lake Project 86 06

Download or read book Summary of the Winter Netting and Mark and Recapture Study on Saddle Lake Project 86 06 written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes and presents results of a mark and recapture study of brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) completed in winter 1987 on Saddle Lake in the Algoma District of Ontario. The objectives of the study were to capture as many brook trout as possible and to use the collected information to calculate brook trout population parameters and estimate the spawning brook trout population. Fish were captured using mainly gill netting and trap netting. Results presented include catch effort, fork length, weight, age, weight and age distributions, calculated mortality rate, and population estimates using the adjusted Peterson method.
