Book Asphalt Characteristics and Asphaltic Concrete Construction

Download or read book Asphalt Characteristics and Asphaltic Concrete Construction written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: The results of comprehensive laboratory tests on asphalt paving mixtures with chrysotile asbestos are described. Paper 2: Data are presented on 1. progressive hardening and embrittlement of the asphalt cement with aging, 2. loss of adhesion of the asphalt cement to the aggregate with the resultant lower compressive strengths due to water displacement of the asphalt binder at the asphalt-aggregate interface, 3. progressive loss of water resistance of the asphalt cement as the asphalt hardens, and 4. progressive loss of the ability of the asphalt binder to readhere to the aggregate after displacement by water. Paper 3: The viscoelastic behavior of bitumens varies with film thickness. therefore, for correlation of laboratory testing with field performance in bituminous pavements, it is important to match the geometry of testing to geometry of end use.

Book Asphaltic Concrete Construction

Download or read book Asphaltic Concrete Construction written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: The broad gap between research on asphaltic concrete specimens prepared in laboratory bench-type equipment and test roads or public highways has been narrowed by providing full-scale paving equipment in a research facility. This facility permits asphaltic concrete pavement construction under conditions of control which cannot be reached in field operations. Paper 2: Laboratory and field data have been collected from 12 regular contract hot-mix asphaltic concrete paving projects in various areas of Texas for the purpose of comparing laboratory and field densities. Paper 3 proposes a mechanism by which mixes can be unstable at high temperatures during rolling and still be quite stable by normal design criteria.

Book Advances in Asphalt Materials

Download or read book Advances in Asphalt Materials written by Shin-Che Huang and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-08 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The urgent need for infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance has led to a rise in the levels of research into bituminous materials. Breakthroughs in sustainable and environmentally friendly bituminous materials are certain to have a significant impact on national economies and energy sustainability. This book will provide a comprehensive review on recent advances in research and technological developments in bituminous materials. Opening with an introductory chapter on asphalt materials and a section on the perspective of bituminous binder specifications, Part One covers the physiochemical characterisation and analysis of asphalt materials. Part Two reviews the range of distress (damage) mechanisms in asphalt materials, with chapters covering cracking, deformation, fatigue cracking and healing of asphalt mixtures, as well as moisture damage and the multiscale oxidative aging modelling approach for asphalt concrete. The final section of this book investigates alternative asphalt materials. Chapters within this section review such aspects as alternative binders for asphalt pavements such as bio binders and RAP, paving with asphalt emulsions and aggregate grading optimization. Provides an insight into advances and techniques for bituminous materials Comprehensively reviews the physicochemical characteristics of bituminous materials Investigate asphalt materials on the nano-scale, including how RAP/RAS materials can be recycled and how asphalt materials can self-heal and rejuvenator selection

Book Laboratory Studies of Asphaltic Concretes Containing Asbestos Fibers Rubberized Asphalt and Epoxy resin Asphalt

Download or read book Laboratory Studies of Asphaltic Concretes Containing Asbestos Fibers Rubberized Asphalt and Epoxy resin Asphalt written by United States. Bureau of Reclamation and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study on uses of additives for improving asphaltic concrete for hydraulic construction showed that fine asbestos fibers (waste screenings) can be used advantageously. The increased compressive and tensile strength, stability, and erosion resistance properties gained with the fibers should provide a highly durable material capable of withstanding the major stresses that develop during service. Of the two rubberized asphalts tested, GRS and neoprene, it was indicated that the neoprene asphalt produced the better asphaltic concrete, particularly on the basis of stability and erosion resistance. Compared to the control, asbestos fibers, and rubberized asphalt mixes, the epoxy-asphalt concrete excelled in all physical properties determinations with the exception that flexibility was less than the rubberized asphalt mixes, and erosion resistance was comparable to the asbestos fiber mixes. The epoxy-asphalt concrete appears to be a very strong and tough material for hydraulic construction application; however, more data are required relative to its long-term weatherability. The relatively high cost of epoxy-asphalt approximately five times that of normal hot-mix, would restrict its use to special applications.
