Book Testing Conditions for Asphalt Binder Testing Using Dynamic Shear Rheometer with 4 Mm Diameter Parallel Plate Geometry

Download or read book Testing Conditions for Asphalt Binder Testing Using Dynamic Shear Rheometer with 4 Mm Diameter Parallel Plate Geometry written by Johannes Büchner and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No standard procedure is available for low temperature asphalt binder testing in the Dynamic Shear Rheometer. In this study, an overview is given of the necessary equipment to use the 4 mm geometry for asphalt binder testing including an explanation of shear compliance correction. Furthermore, the testing conditions of 4 mm geometry including specimen preparation, specimen conditions and test parameter are evaluated. Additionally, practical tips and screenshots on the implementation of recommended parameters and testing conditions in the software rSpace and RheoCompass are provided. Overall, this paper provides extended information and guidelines on how to use the 4 mm geometry and which testing conditions to consider for testing asphalt binder in the low temperature range.

Book Standard Method of Test for Determining the Rheological Properties of Asphalt Binder Using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer DSR

Download or read book Standard Method of Test for Determining the Rheological Properties of Asphalt Binder Using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer DSR written by and published by . This book was released on with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This test method covers the determination of the dynamic shear modulus and phase angle of asphalt binder when tested in dynamic (oscillatory) shear using parallel plate test geometry. It is applicable to asphalt binders having dynamic shear modulus values in the range from 100 Pa to 10 MPa. This range in modulus is typically obtained between 6 and 88°C at an angular frequency of 10 rad/s. This test method is intended for determining the linear viscoelastic properties of asphalt binders as required for specification testing and is not intended as a comprehensive procedure for the full characterization of the viscoelastic properties of asphalt binder. This standard is appropriate for unaged material or material aged in accordance with T 240 and R 28.

Book Applications of the 4 Mm Dynamic Shear Rheometer Geometry for the Forensic Evaluation of Bituminous Materials

Download or read book Applications of the 4 Mm Dynamic Shear Rheometer Geometry for the Forensic Evaluation of Bituminous Materials written by Kristen E. Derewecki and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current asphalt binder performance grading system requires the use of multiple pieces of testing equipment to determine high, intermediate and low temperature properties. To properly grade an asphalt binder, numerous hours of labor must be expended to run through all of the required aging and testing. Additionally when creating master curves to compare stiffness and phase angle with respect to frequency, multiple pieces of equipment are required. This not only creates inefficiencies with respect to time and money, but also brings an approximation into the data as opposed to a direct reading. In order to forensically evaluate asphalt binders, the asphalt must be extracted and recovered from roadway cores. During the extraction/ recovery process the amount of binder required results in coring a considerable amount of the road in question as well as running through an expensive and time consuming chemically intensive process to extract the bituminous material. This paper investigates the potential of the 4 mm Dynamic Shear Rheometer geometry and its potential applications in evaluating binder properties for all failure mechanisms without the need for additional equipment and reducing the amount of asphalt required.

Book Evaluation of the Rheological Properties and Master Curve Development for Bituminous Binders Used in Roofing

Download or read book Evaluation of the Rheological Properties and Master Curve Development for Bituminous Binders Used in Roofing written by Geoffrey M. Rowe and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As dynamic shear rheology (DSR) testing of asphalt binders is becoming the primary mode to evaluate asphalt binders worldwide, an understanding of the rheological performance of asphalt binders has become increasingly important. Such understanding of the basic principles of rheology is essential for those developing and applying specifications, as well as developers and producers of new and enhanced roofing binders. This paper discusses the determination of the complex shear (stiffness) modulus (G*) and phase angle (?) of bituminous binders over a range of temperatures and frequencies when tested in harmonic sinusoidal oscillatory shear mode using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) with parallel plate test geometry where both plates are controlled at the same temperature. Rheological measurements and master curves for six different binders used in the manufacture of industrial roofing materials are presented. The data presented are results of testing of unaged and oven-aged binders to include a standard air blown binder, a catalytically air blown binder, and various modified bitumen binders.

Book Long and Deep Tunnels

Download or read book Long and Deep Tunnels written by Vittorio Guglielmetti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 1336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and construction of “long and deep” tunnels, i.e. tunnels under mountains, characterised by either considerable length and/or overburden, represent a considerable challenge. The scope of this book is not to instruct how to design and construct such tunnels but to share a method to identify the potential hazards related to the process of designing and constructing long and deep tunnels, to produce a relevant comprehensive analysis and listing, to quantify the probability and consequences, and to design proper mitigation measures and countermeasures. The design, developed using probabilistic methods, is verified during execution by means of the so called Plan for Advance of the Tunnel (PAT) method, which allows adapting the design and control parameters of the future stretches of the tunnel to the results of the stretches already finished, using the monitoring data base. Numerous criteria are given to identify the key parameters, necessary for the PAT procedure. Best practices of excavation management with the help of real time monitoring and control are also provided. Furthermore cost and time evaluation systems are analysed. Finally, contractual aspects related to construction by contract are investigated, for best development and application of models more appropriate for tunnelling-construction contracts. The work will be of interest to practising engineers, designers, consultants and students in mining, underground, tunnelling, transportation and construction engineering, as well as to foundation and geological engineers, urban planners/developers and architects.
