Book Asphalt Aggregate Mixtures Analysis System

Download or read book Asphalt Aggregate Mixtures Analysis System written by C. Hughes and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the philosophy of the asphalt-aggregate mixture analysis system (AAMAS) concept and provides a brief discussion on those factors that must be included in the design of optimum paving mixtures based on performance-related criteria. Typically, the structural design of asphalt concrete pavements is based on assumed material properties (layer stiffness coefficients, resilient modulus, and fatigue or permanent deformation constants or both). After the structural design has been completed, materials are submitted and a mixture design is completed. The question then becomes: Does the as-placed material meet the assumptions used in structural design?.

Book Accelerated Performance related Tests for Asphalt aggregate Mixes and Their Use in Mix Design and Analysis Systems

Download or read book Accelerated Performance related Tests for Asphalt aggregate Mixes and Their Use in Mix Design and Analysis Systems written by University of California, Berkeley and published by National Research Council. This book was released on 1994 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a brief summary of the processes that led to the selection of performance-related tests to define asphalt-aggregate interactions that result in fatigue, permanent deformation, thermal cracking, aging, and water sensitivity. Inherent in this test selection process was the emphasis on the ability of the tests to measure fundamental material properties that, when incorporated into prediction models, will depend less on empirical correlations than has been traditionally the case. Also included are the results of validation studies for each of the tests and frameworks for the use of the tests in mix design and analysis. Several levels of design are provided for each distress, some of which incorporate reliability concepts.

Book Summary Report on Aging of Asphalt aggregate Systems

Download or read book Summary Report on Aging of Asphalt aggregate Systems written by Chris A. Bell and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a report on the state of the art of research on the phenomenon of the aging of asphalt-aggregate mixtures. Compared to research on the aging of asphalt cement, there has been little research on the aging of asphalt mixtures. Binder studies are considered as well as mixture sutdies, the relationship between laboratory aging tests and field performance, and the relationship between chemical composition and field performance. Recommendations are made for aging procedures which show promise for laboratory investigation. Test methods to evaluate aging are also considered. It is noted that extended heating procedures show the most promise for short-term aging and pressure oxidation and/or extended heating the most promise for long-term aging.

Book Water Sensitivity of Asphalt aggregate Mixes

Download or read book Water Sensitivity of Asphalt aggregate Mixes written by Ronald L. Terrel and published by National Research Council. This book was released on 1994 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research presented in this report was conducted to identify the important factors influencing the water sensitivity of asphalt paving mixtures, and to develop a test method to evaluate water sensitivity of asphalt concrete mixtures for mix design. The test method was to be performance related. A review of current procedures revealed that no single method was suitable for evaluation and related to field performance. Based on a hypothesis that air voids in the mixture may be the major source and cause of water damage, a test system was developed to evaluate the major factors that influence water sensitivity. The Environmental Conditioning System (ECS) was used to develop a test procedure that includes specimen preparation; measurement of permeability using air, water, or both; vacuum wetting; cycling at various temperatures; and continuous repeated loading while monitoring resilient modulus after each conditioning cycle.

Book Mechanical Tests for Bituminous Mixes Characterization Design and Quality Control

Download or read book Mechanical Tests for Bituminous Mixes Characterization Design and Quality Control written by E. Eustacchio and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-06-02 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book forms the Proceedings of an International RILEM Symposium, the fourth in the series, on Testing of Bituminous Mixes in Budapest, Hungary, October 1990. The aim of the Symposium is to promote tests for the characterization, design and quality control of bituminous mixes which combine the best features of traditional and modern approaches. Among the topics covered are specimen preparation, tests with unique loading (Marshall test, uniaxial tension and creep tests etc), which are used for mix design or control of mechanical properties, and tests with repeated loading, which give information on fatigue, permanent deformation and moduli, especially for mix design.
