The Rival, a standalone hockey romance Dear Jane, a second chance football romance All the Way, a steamy, heartfelt hockey romance The Rival Dump my cheating ex? Check. Land an amazing job with Boston’s professional hockey franchise? Check. Fall stupidly in love with hockey’s favorite bad boy? Ugh. After wasting years of my life with the wrong person, I told myself all I wanted was a little no-strings fun. Enter Alex Braun—a wealthy, handsome, notorious playboy who’s equal parts charming and dangerous as hell to my wounded heart. After enduring a very public breakup of his own, the sexy player doesn’t want to be anyone’s forever. Too bad he barreled his way into my heart, instead of just my bed. But this professional athlete knows a thing or two about competing, and he won’t let go so easily. Dear Jane I broke her heart ten years ago and left town. She hates me, and rightly so. It doesn’t matter that the rest of the country loves me, that I’m a starting quarterback with a multimillion-dollar contract. Because when I look in the mirror, all I see is a failure who was too young—and too afraid—to fight for what I wanted. But I’m not that guy anymore, and all I need is one shot to convince her. *** He has no idea what happened after he left. And now I’m supposed to work alongside him like we don’t have this huge, messy history? But I’m older now, wiser, and I won’t let anything stand in my way of doing a good job for this league. Not even one overpaid, arrogant player who thinks we’re going to kiss and make up. News flash, buddy: I am over you. All the Way She's ready to take on hockey's favorite playboy. Becca Walsh needs some help. When it comes to intimacy... let's just say she's got enough baggage to fill an entire hockey arena. If she ever wants to find the one, it’s time for her to take charge. Which is why asking her best friend, hockey stud Owen Parrish, is really her only option. He's the king of hookups and with his help, this won’t be nearly as hard. I’ve never been this hard in my entire life. My friend Becca wants my help with scoring. It's something I excel at, so it shouldn't be a problem, right? Wrong. After one explosive night together leads to another, I know I'm in way over my head. Now it's time to pull out all the stops and show her exactly how right we could be together.
Download or read book The Honeys written by Ryan La Sala and published by Scholastic Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Ryan La Sala, the wildly popular author of Reverie, comes a twisted and tantalizing horror novel set amidst the bucolic splendor of a secluded summer retreat. Mars has always been the lesser twin, the shadow to his sister Caroline's radiance. But when Caroline dies under horrific circumstances, Mars is propelled to learn all he can about his once-inseparable sister who'd grown tragically distant. Mars's genderfluidity means he's often excluded from the traditions -- and expectations -- of his politically-connected family. This includes attendance at the prestigious Aspen Conservancy Summer Academy where his sister poured so much of her time. But with his grief still fresh, he insists on attending in her place. What Mars finds is a bucolic fairytale not meant for him. Folksy charm and sun-drenched festivities camouflage old-fashioned gender roles and a toxic preparatory rigor. Mars seeks out his sister's old friends: a group of girls dubbed the Honeys, named for the beehives they maintain behind their cabin. They are beautiful and terrifying -- and Mars is certain they're connected to Caroline's death. But the longer he stays at Aspen, the more the sweet mountain breezes give way to hints of decay. Mars’s memories begin to falter, bleached beneath the relentless summer sun. Something is hunting him in broad daylight, toying with his mind. If Mars can't find it soon, it will eat him alive.

It is during this time that he learns about love, war, hate, responsibility, life, death, good, evil, and sacrifice as he matures into a man. Through the trails of life an orphan is forged into a hero. www.sinexia.net ATONUS L. PERRY has always been fascinated with tales of fantasy and wonder. Being the son of a librarian, he spent many of his weekends and summers reading books. The only thing he loved more than reading was indulging in creative writing. As he matured he began to take an interest in Japanese animation, comic books, and role playing video games. After immersing himself in the media storylines he loved so much, he discovered that there was not enough action in most of the stories he loved. So, he vowed to one day write a story that was not lacking in action. One day, after an assignment in one of his college English classes called for an outline of an epic adventure, he made good on that vow and began writing stories that deliver page turning action. He writes for the people who feel dissatisfied with the stories they love so much. Atonus L. Perry lives in Shreveport, Louisiana with his son, Isaiah Alexander Perry.

Download or read book All Bullshit and Lies written by Chris Heffer and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In a post-factual world in which claims are often held to be true only to the extent that they partisanly confirm one's preexisting beliefs, this book asks the following crucial questions: How can one identify the many forms of untruthfulness in discourse? How can one know when their use is ethically wrong? How can one judge untruthfulness in the messiness of situated discourse? Drawing on pragmatics, philosophy, psychology, and law, All Bullshit and Lies? develops a comprehensive framework for analyzing untruthful discourse in situated context. The TRUST (Trust-Related Untruthfulness in Situated Text) framework sees untruthfulness as encompassing not just deliberate manipulations of what you believe to be the truth (the insincerity of withholding, misleading, and lying), but also the distortions that arise pathologically from an irresponsible attitude toward the truth (dogma, distortion, and bullshit). Truth is often not "in play" (as in jokes or fiction), or concealing it can achieve a greater good (as in saving another's face). Untruthfulness becomes unethical in discourse, though, when it unjustifiably breaches the trust an interlocutor invests in the speaker. In such cases, the speaker becomes willfully insincere or epistemically negligent and thus culpable to a greater or lesser degree. In addition to the theoretical framework, the book provides a clear, practical heuristic for analyzing discursive untruthfulness and applies it to such cases of public discourse as the Brexit "battle bus," Trump's tweet about voter fraud, Blair's and Bush's claims about weapons of mass destruction, and the multiple forms of untruthfulness associated with the Skripal poisoning case"--

Download or read book The Animal Dialogues written by Craig Childs and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2007-12-12 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From one of the finest nature writers at work in America today-a lyrical, dramatic, illuminating tour of the hidden domain of wild animals. Whether recalling the experience of being chased through the Grand Canyon by a bighorn sheep, swimming with sharks off the coast of British Columbia, watching a peregrine falcon perform acrobatic stunts at 200 miles per hour, or engaging in a tense face-off with a mountain lion near a desert waterhole, Craig Childs captures the moment so vividly that he puts the reader in his boots. Each of the forty brief, compelling narratives in The Animal Dialogs focuses on the author's own encounter with a particular species and is replete with astonishing facts about the species' behavior, habitat, breeding, and lifespan. But the glory of each essay lies in Childs's ability to portray the sometimes brutal beauty of the wilderness, to capture the individual essence of wild creatures, to transport the reader beyond the human realm and deep inside the animal kingdom
