Book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication

Download or read book Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication written by D. Dowson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication deals with the mechanism of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication, that is, the lubrication regime in operation over the small areas where machine components are in nominal point or line contact. The lubrication of rigid contacts is discussed, along with the effects of high pressure on the lubricant and bounding solids. The governing equations for the solution of elasto-hydrodynamic problems are presented. Comprised of 13 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication and representation of contacts by cylinders, followed by a discussion on equations relevant to lubrication, including the Reynolds equation. The reader is then introduced to lubrication of rigid cylinders; the importance of film thickness in highly loaded rigid contacts; the elasticity of solids in contact; and the theory of elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication. Subsequent chapters focus on apparatus and measurements of film thickness and film shape; friction and viscosity; and lubrication of gears and roller bearings. This book will be of interest to tribologists.

Download or read book Fluid Film Lubrication written by Andras Z. Szeri and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-12-27 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid film bearings are machine elements that should be studied within the broader context of tribology. The three subfields of tribology - friction, lubrication, and wear - are strongly interrelated. The last decade has witnessed significant advances in the area of fluid film lubrication and its applications, and this second edition offers a look at some of these advances. This edition adds to the fundamentals of fluid film lubrication, a discourse on surface effects and the inclusion of treatment of flow with significant inertia within the section on turbulence. Basic ideas of the multigrid method are conveyed along with multilevel multi-integration in the treatment of elastohydrodynamic lubrication. New chapters have been included on ultra-thin films, both liquid and gaseous, and lubrication of articulating joints and their replacement. Some of the most recent literature is discussed.

Book Fundamentals of Tribology

Download or read book Fundamentals of Tribology written by R Gohar and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2008-07-29 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many occasions when quick solutions to problems in tribology are needed. For example, an understanding of the lubrication mechanism in a racing car engine has led to an improvement in performance. Why does a woman's face cream make her look younger for a time? Tribologists are frequently summoned in legal cases as expert witnesses after people have slipped in public places. Improvements to the human artificial hip joint are also partly a result of extensive tribology research. In order to solve such problems, tribology should be regarded as an important undergraduate course. This book covers tribology in such a way as to provide simple approximate solutions to frequent practical problems. Unlike previous books, which catered for earlier generations of undergraduates, today's students generally have sophisticated computer systems available in their colleges. Therefore, many of the worked and set examples in the book are made easier by using readily available software such as Math CAD. Readers will thus gain practice in using it, and will benefit in general by understanding the mathematical principles involved in the solutions. This book is particularly useful to engineering undergraduates and practicing engineers needing a quick solution to tribological problems. Contents:Introduction to TribologyThe Nature of Rough SurfacesElastic Solids in Normal ContactDry Friction and WearLubricant PropertiesThe Reynolds and Energy EquationsThrust BearingsJournal BearingsExternally Pressurized (EP) BearingsElastohydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL)Fatigue Life of Rolling Element BearingsTransient Elastohydrodynamic LubricationNano-TribologyBio-Tribology Readership: Advanced undergraduates and PhD students starting their research; practicing engineers and scientists in industry.

Book Viscoelastic Machine Elements

Download or read book Viscoelastic Machine Elements written by D F MOORE and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscoelastic Machine Elements, which encompass elastomeric elements (rubber-like components), fluidic elements (lubricating squeeze films) and their combinations, are used for absorbing vibration, reducing friction and improving energy use. Examplesinclude pneumatic tyres, oil and lip seals, compliant bearings and races, and thin films. This book sets out to show that these elements can be incorporated in machine analysis, just as in the case of conventional elements (e.g. gears, cogs, chaindrives, bearings). This is achieved by introducing elementary theory and models, by describing new and established experimental techniques for determining viscoelastic properties, and finally by working through actual examples. 'This very reasonablypriced book is full of valuable information not readily available from other sources on a subject which is the eminent author's speciality.' - Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, April 1995

Book Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings

Download or read book Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings written by Piet M. Lugt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive book on the science of grease lubrication for roller and needle bearings in industrial and vehicle engineering. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings provides an overview of the existing knowledge on the various aspects of grease lubrication (including lubrication systems) and the state of the art models that exist today. The book reviews the physical and chemical aspects of grease lubrication, primarily directed towards lubrication of rolling bearings. The first part of the book covers grease composition, properties and rheology, including thermal and dynamics properties. Later chapters cover the dynamics of greased bearings, including grease life, bearing life, reliability and testing. The final chapter covers lubrications systems – the systems that deliver grease to the components requiring lubrication. Grease Lubrication in Rolling Bearings: Describes the underlying physical and chemical properties of grease. Discusses the effect of load, speed, temperature, bearing geometry, bearing materials and grease type on bearing wear. Covers both bearing and grease performance, including thermo-mechanical ageing and testing methodologies. It is intended for researchers and engineers in the petro-chemical and bearing industry, industries related to this (e.g. wind turbine industry, automotive industry) and for application engineers. It will also be of interest for teaching in post-graduate courses.

Book Multi Level Methods in Lubrication

Download or read book Multi Level Methods in Lubrication written by C.H. Venner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-07-21 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficient numerical solution of realistic and, therefore, complex equation systems occupies many researchers in many disciplines. For various reasons, but mainly in order to approximate reality, a very large number of unknowns are needed. Using classical techniques, the solution of such a system of equations would take too long, and so sometimes MultiLevel techniques are used to accelerate convergence. Over the last one and a half decades, the authors have studied the problem of Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication, governed by a complex integro-differential equation. Their work has resulted in a very efficient and stable solver. In this book they describe the different intermediate problems analyzed and solved, and how those ingredients finally come together in the EHL solver. A number of these intermediate problems, such as Hydrodynamic Lubrication and Dry Contact, are useful in their own right. In the Appendix the full codes of the Poisson problem, the Hydrodynamic Lubrication problem, the dry contact solver and the EHL solver are given. These codes are all written in 'C' language, based on the 'ANSI-C' version.
