Book Heat Transfer at Low Temperatures

Download or read book Heat Transfer at Low Temperatures written by Walter Frost and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purposes of this book are to provide insight and to draw attention to problems peculiar to heat transfer at low temperatures. This does not imply that the theories of classical heat transfer fail at low temperatures, but rather that many of the approximations employed in standard solutions techniques are not valid in this regime. Physical properties, for example, have more pronounced variations at low temperatures and cannot, as is conventionally done, be held constant. Fluids readily become mixtures of two or more phases and their analysis is different from that for a single-phase fluid. These and other problems which occur more frequently at low temperatures than at standard conditions are discussed in this book. Although the title specifies heat transfer, the book also contains a very comprehensive chapter on two-phase fluid flow and a partial chapter on the flow of fluids in the thermodynamically critical state. Emphasis is placed on those flow phenomena that occur at low temperatures. Flow analyses are, of course, a prerequisite to forced-convection heat transfer analyses, and thus these chapters add continuity to the text. The book is primarily written for the design engineer, but does broach many topics which should prove interesting to the researcher. For the student and teacher the book will serve as a useful reference and possibly as a text for a special topics course in heat transfer.

Book First U K National Conference on Heat Transfer

Download or read book First U K National Conference on Heat Transfer written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First U.K. National Conference on Heat Transfer, Volume 2, documents the proceedings of the conference organized by the U.K. National Committee for Heat Transfer—a joint committee of the Institutions of Chemical and Mechanical Engineers and includes a member nominated by the Heat Transfer Society—held at the University of Leeds, on 3-5 July 1984. It is intended that the Leeds conference will be the first of a series of UK National Conferences which will be held at four-yearly intervals (1984, 1988, 1992 etc). Thus, for people working in the heat transfer field there will be an opportunity to present and discuss their work at a major conference every two years. This volume contains 52 papers that were presented during Sessions 11-20. The papers in Session 11 deal with enhanced heat transfer. Session 12 presents studies on two-phase flow and boiling. Session 13 contains papers on natural convection. Session 14 focuses measurement techniques in heat transfer while Session 15 deals with heat transfer in high temperature systems. The presentations in Session 16 cover heat transfer in combustion systems while those in Session 17 focus on convective heat transfer. Session 18 takes up heat transfer in cross-flow. Session 19 discusses papers on applied heat transfer. Session 20 deals with studies on industrial heat exchangers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1969 marked the return of the Cryogenic Engineering Conference, now affiliated with the National Academy ofSciences through the Division ofEngineering, National Research Council, to the University of California at Los Angeles. As in 1962, the Cryogenic Engineering Conference gratefully acknowledges the assistance of UCLA, its Engineering and Physical Seien ces Extension Division, and in particular J. Dillon, S. Houston, H. L. Tallman, and their stafffor serving as hosts to the 1969 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. The National Academy of Sciences is a private honorary organization of more than 700 scientists and engineers elected on the basis of outstanding contributions to knowledge. Established by a Congressional Act of Incorporation, the Academy works to further science and its use for the general welfare by bringing together the most qualified individuals to deal with scientific and technological problems of broad significance. The National Research Council was organized as an agency of the National Academy of Sciences in 1916, to enable the broad community of U.S. scientists and engineers to associate their efforts with the Iimited membership of the Academy in service to science and the nation. The Division of Engineering is one of the eight major Divisions into which the National Research Council is organized for the conduct of its work. Its membership includes representatives of the nation's leading technical societies as weH as a number of members-at-Iarge. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference is an organization of the Division of Engineering.
