Download or read book Night and Day written by Richard J. McQueen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-02-17 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of Night and Day, based on the research topics conducted by Fernand D'Amico and Jacques Wisman, is proposed in this book as a themed walk through the passages of Scripture from the Old and New Testament. The biblical text (KJV) is presented deliberately devoid of additional comments to offer an immediate and direct perception of the selected track. The thematic reading of the biblical text opens to the reader as a fascinating experience that allows him to benefit in a short time, a surprising and rich picture of content. The night and the day they open the biblical text in a complex of meanings, some of which are still obscure and mysterious, despite the valiant efforts of biblical scholars in groped to explain their meaning. The scan time of life, the struggle between good and evil and the seniority of the dark than light, according to Genesis, are considerably enigmatic and interesting topic.
Download or read book The People of Ancient Israel written by J. Kenneth Kuntz and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Intended primarily as a textbook for undergraduates, this volume has the following major divisions, each divided into chapters: I. An introduction to the People (including the essential stance of the biblical material, methods of analysis, and the geographical setting); II. The Origins of the People (including a brief history of Old Testament criticism, the patriarchal traditions, the exodus event, and the covenant at Sinai); III. The Growth of the People (from the wilderness period to the time of Elijah); IV. The Demise of the People (from the emergence of the literary prophets to the time of the exile); V. The Renewal of the People (from the Second Isaiah through the end of the Old Testament period). There is an extensive bibliography (arranged topically and by chapters), indexes of authors and subjects, and photos and maps scattered appropriately throughout the volume.' 'Concerning many basic issues a range of scholary opinions is cited, followed by a judicious evaluation and a list of the author's conclusions. Only occasionally may the average informed reader want to take serious issue with the author. . . . Each chapter dealing with the biblical text is accompanied by a list of passages which the student is to read in conjunction with it, a helpful procedure. . . . Treatment of a particular segment of biblical material often includes discussion of its theological stance. . . . The author has included coverage of many more topics than introductions of comparable size.' --From The Journal of Biblical Literature, review by Lloyd R.Bailey, Duke University: 'Professor Kuntz has written a very helpful introductory text. The traditions and texts of the Hebrew Bible are set within a historical framework, but the text is more than a history of ancient Israel. Kuntz presents, in a succinct fashion, major historiographical and interpretative positions. . .He has included an excellent bibliography which includes commentaries, atlases, journals, as well as bibliographies structured along the lines of the table of contents. . .Kuntz has written a very readable and thorough introduction to the Hebrew Bible.' --From The Journal of the American Academy of Religion, by Richard D. Hecht, University of California, Santa Barbara 'Although the subtitle includes the three areas of literature, history, and thought, this volume is primarily concerned with the literature of the Old Testament. A vast amount of information is made available in a breezy, well-articulated and engaging style. . .Kuntz keeps his readers informed on presently controversial issues, but he does not allow the intricacies of such current debates to obscure the flow of the work as a whole. Each chapter is amply footnoted, and an extensive annotated bibliography concludes the volume. . .Some seventy photographs enhance an already clear and concise presentation. . .The vigorous and open stance of the work, evident in its lack of defensive or apologetic intent, finds confirmation in the author's statement: to engage in the Old Testament hermeneutical task is to engage in a dialogue with ancient Israel. As that dialogue unfolds, the interpreter will be required to place his own view of the world on trial. . . .Kuntz has ably demonstrated that the major task of introducing the Old Testament to the interested layperson can be accomplished successfully without jargon and sophisticated detail. This volume deserves a wide readership and will serve as a very fine foundation in introductory courses to the entire Old Testament.' --From The Catholic Biblical Quarterly, by David P. Reid, SS.CC., Washington Theological Coalition, Silver Spring, Maryland:

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE CRUSADE OF THE CHILDREN is a fictionalized story about a young French shepherd boy who believed he was called by God to preach a crusade of children to free the Holy Land from the Moslems. The fever spread as he preached before thousands of people and he attracted a following of about 30,000 children, many under the age of twelve. This seething mass of children set out for Marseilles where they believed ships would carry them to the Holy Land, which was under control of the Moslems. After many days, many of the children deserted and returned to their homes. However, about five thousand sailed away in ships provided by two unsavory characters. Two ships were wrecked off the island of San Pietro, but the others reached a Mohammedan port and slave market.

Download or read book In View of a Harvest written by Jim Vanderburg and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the time Peter wrote this epistle, many Christians were facing persecution. Early Christians found themselves engaged in constant conflict with authoritarian structures and, as a result, many began to capitulate and collaborate with the enemy. The primary root cause: they did not know who they were as members of the body of the Anointed One. Nearly two thousand years have passed, and the body of the Anointed One in America find themselves in the same situation. There is a backlash against the Christian church in the United States. We have awakened and found that our hope is not in any political party or process. We suddenly find ourselves politically incorrect in an increasingly hostile environment. We must first know who we are in the Anointed One. This book is a verse-by-verse study of this epistle with a view to show us who we are and how we live.

Download or read book Can We Believe Genesis in an Age of Science written by Mark Glaab and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to many Christian leaders, early Genesis is a myth or allegory. Therefore, Adam and Eve never lived, Eve was never tempted, and Adam never sinned. There was no creation week, so God did not make the earth, the stars, the birds, fish, or the animals. This has become the default position of many Christian teachers, ministries, and campuses. This is not just mainline churches, but evangelicals have joined the ranks of doubters in creation. This is a reaction to the claims of Christians who work in the sciences, claiming that evolution is now an established fact. As a result, creation week is put in the category of myth or allegory, not history. New interpretations of Genesis abound. There is just one problem. This may be how people interpret Scripture, but it is not how Scripture interprets Scripture. Scripture treats Genesis as history. If you are wondering whether Genesis can be interpreted as true history, the struggle is over. Jesus is not just the cornerstone of the church. He is the cornerstone of creation.
